Maybe she needs to regulate her menstural cycle? :ky: Ignore my post, go back to the topic at hand, its almost 3am, and I thought I made a funny, but it is not really funny

I can see the drawbacks and benefits. How would the assure 24 hour coverage? Do they just leave the pot hole truck behind? How many men are on the crew?

He doesn't bend everything he does. He has quite a few valid agruments, and I respect his devotion to his causes. I dont agree with the times he has to strech the truth to make his point. Bowling for Columbine was a good movie. He did have quite a few vaild arguements. I do respect that movie even though I don't agree with all he has to say. 9/11 on the other hand. That movie I loved when it came out. F U Bush! Yeah! War bad! Then I grew up some. I researched on my own, and realized it was a crock of shiat. It had some points, but, he made them the wrong way. I want to get ahold of his other movies, the not so popular ones, to see what his true style is like.

A call to arms! EMT-B's defend yourself!
brentoli replied to cosgrojo's topic in General EMS Discussion
Well, A basic compared to a medic partner, there is no justification. If a medic wanted a basic for a partner and not a medic he A)is stupid or B)thinks he is god which leads back to A. Basic in general however there is reasoning for this. Law Enforcement officers, security guards, firefighters, and other public service occupations it makes sense to have people certified in this. That is a big difference from EMS however, as that is training and not education based. I don't expect my sheriff deputy on the scene of my accident to know the physiology behind why I am bleeding everywhere. I expect him to know to put a dressing on it and secure it to slow and stop the bleeding. I think maybe Dust, this is getting in to your thoughts on a new system. EMT-B is just a first aid course. I agree. It is nothing to get a woody for. We go in to the ER expecting quality care from a physician, not from the ER tech who takes our temperature. Why would the ambulance be different. EMT is a certification, it is a tool to help you. But the points are valid, a medic partner beats an EMT any day. I'm not being wishy-washy here. I am rebutting to Dust's point he made, and I think I am starting to understand what he means by a "new" system. -
I have seen Bowling for Columbine and I own Fahrenheit 9/11. I respect his work. I don't agree with all of it, but I respect it. He goes to great lenghts to show his point and try and prove them. I know he embelleshes quite a bit, but you have to look for you own research. I haven't read or heard much on this movie, just rumblings from co workers. I will probably see it on DVD when it comes out, not worth paying $8 for.

A call to arms! EMT-B's defend yourself!

No, I think you just don't want to take the time to elaborate on your statements. I have admitted I made a statement that wasn't clear and explained it and the meaning behind it. Why can you not do the same? -

Bushy, I already know you don't give anything I say credit, and you won't look at any other opinions. That was learned in the chatroom a few times. You called me out saying I don't know how Dust would feel about this, but you wouldn't respond to my question for you to elaborate. How then, can you say I don't know? Dust and I have had a few discussions on these boards about basics, I advocate for them, but only the ones that deserve it. How do you get that I am saying to become a cookbook medic? I know I could have elaborated a little bit more. Probably even used a better choice of words. What I was getting at was you learn the reasons behind what you are doing. Not memorizing a book of spells. Basics have their place, see my post on the "NEWLY CERTIFIED EMT BASIC" thread, it gives you some more insight on how I feel about this. I am a Basic, and I may stay a basic the rest of my life if I decide to make 911 or Law Enforcement my career. But if I go with EMS or Fire, I know I will be going to medic school and learning what I can to make myself better. As it is, I try to keep up with the current advances, I try to learn what I can about emergency medicine so I can better help both my medics and my patients. -
You make it sound like we can trust nursing home nurses for other things? Well, I guess if I ever need 7-Up and a cold rag.

A call to arms! EMT-B's defend yourself!

Bushy, thanks for calling me stupid. I know what Dust's position is. But how can you make a statement like that and speak for him with out justifying it? I don't think the point of my post was drugs or memorization, actually it was the opposite. It was learning, practicing, not memorizing recipes. -
Can you tell us what her vitals were? Maybe the intoxication was affecting it. Or maybe she just didn't know what was going on. What was the cause of the injury? Femurs don't just break. Was there indication of a head injury or altered mental status?

If we dont understand it, fill us in, what *IS* Dust's position on this? I used to work with Sherwin-Williams. "Ask Sherwin Williams" They had a program, I don't remember what it was called, but you went to their little school in Ohio for a few weeks, and then were sent to diffrent stores to get your feet wet. After you sucessfuly passed that you were assigned a store as an assitant, and worked in the capacity until a manager position opened up and you had enough experence and time with the company to enter in. I am sure many other companies work this way as well. Why wouldnt this approach work for EMS? Start off as an EMT. Learn your job, learn what it takes to make it in this occupation. With that knowledge work at becoming the best EMT-B you can. Learn every aspect of your job. Learn every thing you can and don't stop. EMT-B's don't need anatomy? Bull. Learn it. Take a class at the community college, read some books. Get a subscription to JEMS. Don't understand the ALS stuff? Ask your partner. What happens when you have been doing this for a while? You go to Medic school. You learn Paramedicine. You learn the human body. You memorize drug reatcions, not protocols. And then you go out and you use what you learned on a truck. And teach that next EMT-B that comes along. EMT-B's they arent useless, we need to mold them to what we want from them. Encourage them to become more then what these schools dump out of them. -
I agree and disagree on the EMT as a career. In and of itself, I pray no one makes a career out of being an EMT-B. On the other side, it has to be a stepping stone. All paramedics were a basic at one time. You can be an EMT-B as a "hobby" no problems. Part time PRN work, as long as you keep up on your skills. Do you read EMS magazines? Do you keep up on more CE then you need? When you are on duty do you pick the brains of your partners and work with your equipment? Dust, what are your opinions on part time and PRN work, if it is paid? I know you are against volunteering, but I am curious about that, I don't think I have seen you mention it. If you want EMS as a career, think hard about it. Get some experience as a basic, learn how to take a good history. Its the best thing you can do as an EMT-B. You are the researcher for the medic. Nothing more, nothing less. Can you take that BP under any condition? Can you communicate with the 80 year old stroke pt who never got full speech back? If so, then go on to become that paramedic. If not, keep working until you can.

We should all get along. We can eat the double whopper quarter pounder big cheese mac. Anything with fat and cheese. So we can all be plugged up, and don't have to take those annoying poop breaks during the shift. Fire and EMS both, you know what I am talking about. That poop interrupted by the annoying voice from the heavens?

Let's all move to Mass and take over the government. Run under the Blue Star party?
-
You guys make this too complicated! One thing to remember, if you don't have the contact paper or duct tape, break the window farthest from the pt, then gain access and cover them with your extracation blanket. Some rear windows can be window punched, some cant. I belive most newer ones can. Be careful if the window has struts on it though, because they will pop right out at you when you do it so stay clear of them.

Minus 5 for posting in two places. Either board will get responses from the same people for the most part. Now as far as the question, I will have something substantial to say later. I am on 15 of a 16 hour shift and going down hill fast.

LINK Does this count? I wouldn't think this is the type of news you meant? If so find a picture of people fishing off of a dam in Missouri. If not, keep on googling.
