  1. No, you lose all right as an American and are charged with criminal acts as a terrorist. You aren't simply deported. You are thrown in a prison like Guantanamo Bay. This I have no problem with. BUT if you are accused of terrorism, you can be held with just cause of being a "terrorist" and basically done with what they want. No trial or anything, just tossed in a prison off US soil. For example, I am surfing the web, and I click on a link that takes me to a webpage on how to build a bomb. Or I am doing research for a school report and I come across material that might be considered "terrorist stuff". Just so happens DHS is monitoring activity on such webpages and then the FBI crashes down my door and I am stuffed in a cell at an undisclosed location. Brought up on charges of being a terrorist and that's that. At least that's what I got out of the article.
  2. I am not exactly sure what to think about this, but here is the article. http://edition.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/05/06/terrorism.act.change/index.html?npt=NP1
  3. This is actually a really great idea. I have come across a few Spanish speaking patients and it was hard to do anything for them. Got by on them knowing very little broken English and my partner knowing very little broken Spanish. I will not get into a debate about this with anyone so don't bother. Also, Rosetta Stone is pretty awesome expensive though
  4. There has been A LOT of this going around lately. Either it being through e-mail or various instant messaging programs. For those of you who do not know, it is called "phising". No, not the hippie band. It is fraud. Someone tries to gain access to your e-mail or whatever through various methods. Most common method is you will get an e-mail that seemingly looks innocent. It will look like it is from your e-mail provider. Saying something a long the lines of security upgrades, needing to change your password. It will link you to a site, that looks just like whatever site you use for e-mail and instruct you to put in your current e-mail/password to verify, then enter a new one. WHAMO!! Now they got your e-mail and password. Also, same thing they will do is say someone did something on facebook/myspace/friendster/random webpage. Links you to the site, and says enter username/password. Be VERY careful of this. It is easy to overlook things that look like they should. If you ever get something asking to fix your password right after you click a link, chances are its fraud. Look at the link carefully. Also, e-mail providers and places like facebook, will NEVER ask you for your password. Hope this helps further attempts being made to members here.
  5. He was suggesting reviewing (yes, review is fine). He was also saying that if there are problems, then they should go back and focus on it. USUALLY there is not time for this. American EMS education is too short and therefor fast paced. In a perfect world, a chapter in a book should take several classes to go over. Not read to and using a power point slide show like many schools favor. Actually TEACHING them. The books are just tools to help teach. That is, the problem is EMS in The States. Almost everyone wants the quick and short route to get everything.
  6. Welcome to 5th grade pop quiz. Sadly, with suck crappy time frames, this won't always be possible. You can't wait around for people to get up to speed. They either know it, or they don't. Try your best to get them on par, but if not.. sorry. Can't wait for you.
  7. It is on my list
  8. Making class fun and enjoyable helps quite a bit. Don't just stand there and read from a slide show or from the book. Get the students involved. Positive reinforcement. Do not discourage. Gain their respect! Don't speak monotone.. that's boring and some will lose interest. A lot of the material can be dry. Try to keep it exciting, but remember they aren't "kids". Also remember.. the brain is directly proportional to what the butt can handle.
  9. I just finished "Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter" I felt it was a great book. It tells a "factual" story about the life of Lincoln from the time of his birth until his assassination. That part that may or may not be real (a matter of opinion I suppose), is that a lot of what Lincoln had done during is life, was told in a sense of him hunting vampires and writing about it in his "lost journal". edit: I found this to be a little bit of a harder read mostly because a portion of the writing was written in a way of how the spoke 150yrs ago. Other than and some big words I never seen before... it was good.
  10. Alright, so I have been reading books a lot more lately and finding it a little hard to pick out news ones. Even though there are billions of books or whatever. I guess a larger selection is making it harder. So I am proposing this. Maybe something along the sorts of a list of categories ie fiction, non-fiction, sci-fi, mystery, history, etc etc and somone of several people can list a book they are reading or have read for which every category and rate it with a * or even a little review. If this idea is lame, just ignore and sorry for wasting your 30 seconds for reading this.
  11. I agree with Don. How many times have we set a cup of coffee on the hood or roof of the ambulance.. and forgot about it when driving off? Shit happens.. just because this was a more expensive mistake and potential deadly accident doesn't change the fact that we are all human and make silly mistakes.. like forgetting you put something on the ground.
  12. Shit happens... it was an accident. Now if said crew threw stuff out of the helicopter when in flight, that would be different. Forgetting something, some where, anywhere... it happens.
  13. sure that article is real? I didn't see anything about putting EMS down or wanting to hang a provider... in all seriousness... good job
  14. yea the BS they expect from you is out of hand

  15. Sadly, too many parents rely on the schools to raise their kids, as well as educate them.
  16. They have tax breaks for just about everything else. They have college funds for basically everything... sure why the hell not! I want a tax break too!
  17. The media is a shit stirrer.
  18. LA has a lot more problems than this when it comes to FD.... but we won't get into that. One of these days firefighters will get knocked down a few pegs and realize they aren't king shit and start having to deal with things like the rest of us emergency responders do.
  19. It seems like the article was one sided, for the FD. What they did was wrong. Regardless of the reasons! A longer and proper notice should have been given in my opinion. Combo stations more than often never work and fail. Even if they are friends outside of chasing tones around town. To me it seems a lot like they [the township and FD] is hiding behind lawyers for their acts. It is unclear, though, why this came to be. The article didn't mention reasons the escalated to it. They said it was 2-3 years? And then all of a sudden they kick them out? We aren't hearing the full story here. The FD shouldn't have kicked them out, and the ambo shouldn't have been trying to act independent from the FD when they were not. sorry... I am tired with a large lack of sleep.. can't focus much on my rant
  20. Don't you need a "lab" for A&P? My a&p meets for a lecture, and a lab. Not sure how you can do the lab online?
  21. I can carry an AR-15 if I wanted to... and if I could afford it.
  22. I never heard of a limit, besides your personal limits. If you feel you cannot lift something safely, then don't do it. Call for help.
  23. Kind of reminds of the HBO documentary/show. I believe it was called "Iraq ER" or something similar to that.
  24. GREAT device! Used them in training, but never on an actual patient. They have all the necessities built into it. It can get in the way of itself, but if you take your time, it will be fine. I suggest contacting the rep, and seeing if they can send some to your station for testing. If they are local, they will probably offer to come in and do a demonstration. Highly recommend it.
  25. Welcome to the City! Congratulations on your choice in becoming and EMT and a career in EMS. It's very exciting! My advice is learn as much as you can! Follow the people around everyone talks about on how great they are. Ask questions, lots of them. Get your hands dirty and get into things. Read lots, study lots.
