  1. I see it too often. The 'boss' makes the employee do something they do not like/want to do. They get all pissy "my boss is a dick!" type attitude. But in reality (usually) the boss has to make hard decisions that won't make them popular. It would suck to be a boss in many aspects. I suppose you could find a fine balance between friend/boss though. What I do see, that pisses me off, is the boss makes you mop the floors, clean bathroom, take out trash every shift... while they surf the web. That does not make a happy work place.
  2. Yea, my bad. I hit the wrong "reply" link. That wasn't directed towards you directly.
  3. We do several of these a year. We set up camp at various locations. Such as supermarkets, walmart, and other places likely to see many people. We offer a vital sign check and include that in their vial. We hand out pamphlets on medical conditions as well. We also have quite a few on hand to give out to people coming into the station and on the ambulance. (fyi, this is all at a Volly station. At work, we do similar things too) edit: seriously? A negative for that??
  4. Your boss isn't your friend, they are your boss. The sooner people realize that.. the better they will work with each other.
  5. Before start of every shift, we do an equipment check. This includes checking to see if there are enough gauze pads, o2 is sufficient, enough fuel in tank, and medications. I not only check to see if they are there, but expiration. Inventory is done as a whole by someone else, medications and tracking of which ambulance they are on, is done VIA computer and can be logged in by the provider when they used something. Expired medications such as epi, dopamine, D50, and such... are tossed in the sharps box. Other meds, such as the morphine, fentanyl, etomidate, valium, etc etc.. are taken the the ER and disposed of/wasted there with witness of an RN or MD. The MD then signs off on it and are replaced if needed. Also, narcs MUST be signed for at the start of every shift.
  6. sorry to offend you
  7. It's not really a dumb question... just, retarded.
  8. I will be the pilot.. just pay for my flight training.
  9. I will sell you an EC-135 complete with all equipment. I will provide pilots, crew and mechanics. I will also provide a base and hangar. All I need from you, is 300 million dollars.
  10. Primary care physician's offices are flooded too. Just an FYI.
  11. I wear one because it makes me looked ripped
  12. repetition, repetition, repetition
  13. I am all for raising standards and education needed. How can we expect to improve the profession if we don't make steps like this. I saw YES, do it. Also, make it cost effective. If your employer requires, it.. they pay for it, or at least a large chunk of it.
  14. As far as I know, and can remember.. being a "black belt" or equivalent in your style of training, labels you a "lethal weapon". At least in Pennsylvania it does. So, does that mean I am not allowed to ride the ambulance? No weapons right? As far as self defense, I feel everyone should receive training. At the very least, how to disarm a subject and give yourself enough time to GTFO. In my home town, of 7,000 people or so.. most of which are elderly.. there are 2 martial arts training studios. So, trained people are around to give instruction. In bigger areas, they are all over the place. Lots of them offer classes just on self defense, geared to females. I am sure a phone call can set-up private training once a month in station or at school for instruction. Is once a month enough? No, probably not. It is better than nothing though. Many might argue that you should just have PD there. PD isn't always available, and often they are not needed in initial response. Many times the scene is safe, then it becomes unsafe. THIS is where we need to learn to protect ourselves. We are taught to leave openings for escape, but many times it's not an option or just not possible. I would rather have a fighting chance, than none at all. Basic training is better than nothing. Continued basic training will mean more advanced training. A hurt provider is no good!
  15. Very true! I am sure there are plenty of things I find funny and others do not. I have A LOT of fun when I am working. Would I put a gas mask on? yes, I would. Would I rappel off the top bunk in the middle of the night when responding to a call? Yes, and I have! Would I run across the day room with a sheet over my head pretending to be a ghost while everyone is watching a movie? Yes I would. Would I do anything like that in a patients home? Defiantly not. There is a time and place to have fun. As for facebook, you CANNOT see my posts or even find me on there unless I let you find me. I do not bad talk people or my job or other services or anything. Just that my private life is private.
  16. Terrible news to wake up to... RIP!
  17. I have a black belt in a mixed style of martial arts. Also I did kickboxing for a long time. If someone were to attack me, I wouldn't remember much of any of the training. It's something you have to keep up with and practice all the time. A short instructional class won't do you any good. So, I agree with you 100% on this one.
  18. All that hot steam.. it might BLEVE... better grab her and do a cockroach!
  19. Some of the video comments have foul language, so depending on your employer, you may want to wait to get home to view. Youtube Link tried to embed it, didn't work.. I'm dumb
  20. Alright, fair enough. Maybe I should have said "Possible" not definite. But still, it all depends on their policies. I have not seen the pictures so who knows. I have not seen the video or whatever so who knows what was seen. As for texting while driving, that IS a definite reason to be fired and criminal charges. At least in PA, since it is illegal to do so... even talking while driving is illegal.
  21. Glad he was fired! Hope the charges hold and he gets the maximum penalty for it.
  22. It's called sarcasm... you people suck at having a sense of humor.
  23. Come to PA. It was $50 plus cost of book to get my EMT-B back in the day.
  24. Welcome to the city and best of luck with what you are doing... but just an fyi, people HERE need the same help
