  1. hilllarity! that was good!
  2. Agreed. I was just making a point. I don't think they mentioned distances in the article. Vitals stable, patient goes to the nearest facility unless MOI proves otherwise and/or their condition.
  3. Takes quite a bit of force to throw someone 30ft from a car. Not a lot of info on the crash itself, but it seems to me the county just got made an example of. I will take a critical patient to a lower level facility to get them stabilized and then transfer from there. All depending on my location and distances. I don't recall the article mentioning anything like that.
  4. What state are you from? Illinois? Contact your local EMS office or state department of health EMS office.
  5. that's communism for ya
  6. That is just ridiculous!
  7. Age, weight, or whatever else aren't a factor in skills or knowledge in EMS. Although, being out of shape, I do have an issue with if my partner can't keep up during a rescue, lifting, hiking to a patient, walking up several flights of stairs, etc etc. When the persons weight and or level of physical ability hinder patient care, I have a problem with that.
  8. If you can still function and do the job efficiently, you should be allowed to work still. Personally, I think every EMS employer should require all staff to do agility and physical fitness testing yearly. There are too many overweight people in this field that I have noticed with difficulty due to their weight. That is not the issue here though. Age should not be a factor in this job.
  9. awesome, glad to see they got the lil fella out
  10. Wow, your place of employment sucks. Not quite sure what else to say. They seem pretty unprofessional. Sort of like where I work *rolls eyes*, but we won't get into that. Hope things work out for you.
  11. I have said it before and I will say it again. IT DEPENDS ON THE PERSON. You can't teach some people maturity. There are plenty of zero to hero medics out there. There are also Many medics who were basics for years before medics and they blow.
  12. Yea, that is what I had figured, but it was still funny. But really though... good for her.
  13. Sorry, I forgot to put in my sarcasm face with the "getting off easy" part.
  14. I have no idea. So I searched google and found this http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6096024.html A blunt needle connector described herein is used for transferring fluids or medication through compatible injection ports associated with primary, secondary and central lines during intravenous therapy applications. The needle connector provides needle stick protection without recessing the needle in the shield. This feature allows the end-user to better align the injection port to the needle connector and lock the needle to the injection port to eliminate line disconnects. The blunt needle connector also provides for an audible or tactile indication that the latch is secured to the intravenous fitting. This feature makes it easy to distinguish between the open or unlocked and closed or locked position of the latch. In addition, the blunt needle connector provides attachment to an intravenous line without the twisting of the line that is associated with a threaded connector. Seems to be that they are used for a safer way for drawing medications and fluids to be given to a patient. No sharp pointy objects to be toying around with I suppose. I never seen one in person. How a person punctures the skin with one, looking at the image I provided, appears it took some effort to do so. Unless we are referring to the wrong implement here. Maybe the OP will clue us in.
  15. There have been studies done, or so I have heard about when responding ambulances don't use their lights and sirens they make it to their destination in the same amount of time or even quicker. The problem is to me, that people see the lights coming up behind them, and just stop. That leaves a lot of potential for other incidents to occur. Given, that doesn't always happen, but for the most part, people act like morons trying to make room for the ambulance, or they just plain ole ignore it. Second of all, in the state of PA, not sure about other states, the vehicle code says that when operating an emergency vehicle, when the lights are on (emergency rotating lights) there must be an audible warning device on as well. I will look for this in the vehicle code later when I have more time and will quote it.
  16. Look at the training in many many other countries, they are on the same page as you and spenac are. Here in the states, we have it easy.
  17. Good for her. She did what countless others have done. Was there really 200+ in her medic program? That is crazy if you ask me! But hey, good for her. She did it, she went through it all while working 20 other jobs and what not. I'd hit it too.
  18. hard to tell by that image where as it's a syringe. try this one
  19. no need to be sorry... I could care less actually. On the other hand, some people will get all cranky about it
  20. good stuff, but not really ems discussion though
  21. oh yea, fired too. what a disgrace!
  22. Just because you are a cop does not mean you are above the law. I hope they all have to pay the max fines and get prosecuted. There is no excuse for acting like this.
  23. Thanks, we saw it the first time you posted it. lose the caps too, people don't like them for some reason.
  24. Even if it is the patients own medication, an EMT can't administer it to them or assist them with it... legally. There are only a handful of meds an EMT can assist with giving a patient. Although, I do see your point.
  25. have fun, good luck. it's a nice area
