  3. A 10 year old emt? Don't anyone tell echo!
  4. Parents make bad decisions all the time. Given I am not a parent, but I see it all the time. The parents were right to have doubts of their daughter dating this guy solely based on their ages. There wasn't much said about the girl to know to say what kind of a person she was, but my guess would be she was easily manipulated by an older guy wanting to be with her. She most likely would have been with him regardless of what the parents said. Now for that sick freak, I could say quite a few things that I believe he should get, but let's just say he should suffer, quite a bit. Just as every other murderer, rapist and pedophile out there.
  5. Yes I would work it. CPR was already started and I am the next higher level of care and it's my duty to continue.
  6. Hmmm yea, it's a volunteer service, you aren't supposed to be paid or else it wouldn't be volunteer. Go get a real job and stop complaining about not being paid when you volunteer your time.
  7. http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/19451651/detail.html BOULDER, Colo. -- The 18-year-old Broomfield man accused in the slaying of a 13-year-old girl admitted to several friends that he killed her, according to evidence laid out in a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Boulder. Alexander Paul Pacheco is charged with first-degree murder in the October 2008 slaying of Kelsey Shannon. Her badly decomposed remains were found in a Broomfield drainage ditch last January. An autopsy determined that Kelsey died as a result of "homicidal violence." According to testimony in Pacheco's preliminary hearing, he told a friend he strangled Shannon "until her eyes rolled back in her head." He then stabbed her in the throat multiple times to make sure she was dead. Also revealed in court Wednesday: Pacheco admitted to a friend that he had sex with the corpse afterward until the body turned cold. He faces an additional charge of abuse of a corpse, based on that admission. A friend of Pacheco told police that Pacheco took him to the area where he had dumped the body and said he wanted to retrieve a condom that he used after killing Kelsey. The friend told police that Pacheco also showed a lock of hair he kept in a tissue that he said belonged to Kelsey. Pacheco visited the body several times in a watery marsh, according to police. Pacheco may have tried moving it with a sled to better hide it and also debated putting in a barrel filled with soda and bleach in the hopes it would eat away at the body. He said he could smash the teeth and spread them over Colorado so police couldn't identify the remains through dental records. Additional testimony revealed that Pacheco and Kelsey were a couple and that the two had sex during the relationship. On Oct. 14, Kelsey told her parents that she was going to go for a walk, after she and her parents had a disagreement about Kelsey's relationship with Pacheco. She never returned home and was reported as a runaway. Pacheco also told friends he wouldn't get caught because she had written a "runaway" note. The preliminary hearing is the first time evidence against Pacheco has been revealed. District Judge John E. Popovich will decide if there is enough evidence for Pacheco to stand trial. Pacheco has been held without bond since his arrest three days after Kelsey's body was discovered.
  8. that was uhhh, interesting
  9. Something similar happened near me. There was an MVC and a person on the ambulance crew took pictures of the scene and car with victims. The photos were posted on a forum before the police even left the scene. It was a local forum that was routinely checked by the officers who were there. They saw it, called the boss of this company. The person was fired that morning. I have no issues with taking pictures of accident scenes for educational purposes. The pictures should not be solely directed at the victim though. That is just wrong and sick. Pictures of injuries and such are fine, but there is a limit to this. We aren't cops and we don't need to have such pictures like that for personal use, let alone for posting to the public. That's pretty deranged if you ask me!
  10. I would def go to the hospital and get checked if you haven't already. Contact your state DOH and discuss it with them since they would be more knowledgeable on the laws of this. If your boss is going to be a dick about it, you can too. Get a lawyer if need be.
  11. I have used various programs for PCRs. I have used emma, emstat, aim, code3 and some online one that I can't remember the name. Each one has their ups and downs. From a personal preference, I like emstat the most.
  12. neat
  13. you burn 10 calories licking a stamp. you burn more calories eating celery than how many are in the celery itself
  14. typical
  15. Do patients whacked out on PCP count?
  16. How many people looked at this thread and said 'what the hell is that'? then looked it up. They found out what it meant and probably read about what the disease was. I learned something from it. Given, I saw it on that episode of house and I have heard about it a long time ago, but never took the time for myself to actually read about it. This post made me remember it, and go back to read about it. So, in reality there was a lot of meaning to this.
  17. First thing you learn in EMS, scene safety and BSI. The scene essentially was not safe due to the icy conditions. I know it sounds dumb, but if the roads are icy, do we drive fast on them or do we take our time and be more cautious? Same applies to walking if you ask me. In the winter we often carry ice melt or a bucket of coal stove ash to throw down on icy walkways. Second of all, if the patient is large, don't bother lifting. Know your limits and use your head. Call for extra lifting help and use it. As for suing, sure you can sue away and you may win or you might not. I am not a lawyer. Be more careful and take your time. Stand back for a moment and assess your scene, don't get tunnel vision and utilize your resources.
  18. Maybe EMTALA would be what you are looking for? http://www.emtala.com/
  19. That would work, and would be easier than finding the pin you like that is magnetic. I have some rare earth magnets, they are quite strong and small.
  20. Make sure you take her out for a nice meal first
  21. Thank you Jim, that was a really interesting and informative interview. He explained everything very well and made the exam much more clear than anything I have read before, even from their site. I suggest everyone listen to this interview, even if you already passed NR, plan to take it, or even if you are an educator.
