  1. You must be from Houston. :wink:
  2. I can't think of his name, but he is the true "head" of the ER if I'm not mistaken.
  3. =D> Very well said.
  4. OMG that is so wrong, so funny, but wrong....I so want to put that on a report. I can trip out the QA guy, already got him this week with "penis pain."
  5. :shock: Wow...how come I just lost all of my hair?
  6. I always had questions to ask, guess patient assessment went out the window? :?
  7. I've ran three day old codes, nothing surprises me when a nursing home is involved.
  8. Yeah...I'm going to need a pay raise. :shock:
  9. There is nothing wrong for apologizing for YOUR AMBULANCE hitting bumps, and YOUR CREW for moving her in a manor that might result in pain. You were in the right, he was in the wrong. A situation like this isn't worth arguing or getting bad marks, so just agree and know that you were right. It isn't hard to tell when someone is "using" you or trying to get something out of you. I have no problem moving objects out of the way to avoid damage, taking you to the hospital that you want, or calling a family member for you; however this is with in reason. I will not call your entire family, I will not drive you to a hospital on the other side of Houston (about a 2 hour trip during rush hour traffic), and I will not move your 500 lb entertainment center. Being nice is medicine.
  10. I go through a pair of boots about every year. :? I've been looking for a good pull on boot, but can't really find any.
  11. I agree...but you know the upper members of the local/reginal government aren't about to take a pay cut.
  12. I wish I had a $1 for every EMT-Basic that said they were going to work only 911 when they became a paramedic.
  13. Eh, I'll hold off for 5 years and see how it fairs...and to wait for the paid sick/vacation time, 401K, uniform allowance, and other "perks."
  14. We carry IV setups in our drug bag, I just bring it inside, along with the LP12 when it gets cold and put it by the door so I don't forget it.
  15. Why do I see more problems ahead?
  16. I vote for this thread to be a "stickie" and be posted in a "I'm new to EMS, what do I need to do" section.
  17. What is an EMR? I'm to lazy to look it up and I'm from Texas.
  18. I have to agree with you. I currently work for a private provider and a city service. I really enjoy the private service I work for (granted they aren't like any other I've heard of). My point is that as a new "ROOKIE" to EMS, you will want to try something many people forget to do. You have two ears/eyes, one mouth...God made you that way for a reason. Shut up, listen and watch everything, and open your mouth when you have a question. Questions are good, even the "stupid" ones. They might be stupid to someone who has been doing this for a while, but to you they are a blessing because no one wants to make a mistake. Watch out who you apply for, just because someone has cool toys and rigs doesn't mean they have the best ability to meet their payroll. Most important, have fun and enjoy helping other people! Some of the best friends I have are the result of working in EMS.
  19. Oh I know about it, just haven't heard anyone refer to them that in a long time. Then again we don't talk about HFD much here...we have a few of their paramedics who are "fed up" with the stuff there.
  20. Please pay every person who responded to this thread $5.
  21. Now that is a term I haven't heard in a while.
  22. =D> Well said!!!
  23. Generally here (and my Texas friends can back me up) most ER Techs are given an "informal" class on how to start IV's. It doesn't mean they are good at it, it doesn't mean they are allowed to do this (it is a gray area here in Texas). I have to agree with the other two posts, if you didn't want to be on an ambulance, then why are you in this field. Now might be a good time to consider switching to nursing if your thinking you'd like to work indoors and off of a rig (nothing wrong with that).
  24. But try to work it out so that as you start to get bigger and bigger you can move it more in house.
  25. Are you a private company looking to do 911, or are you a municipal service?
