Also, this seems like a similar thread from earlier... http://www.emtcity.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.ph...asc&start=0

I am tossing this out there just as FYI (general)...in (I believe) Singapore, if you call for an ambulance...you can't refuse. You must be transported. Just from a different point of view (saw it on Discovery a while ago...may not be Singapore...but in that area of the world).

Akroeze, I know I'm being picky, but hear me out please! I thought the letter was well written and at least provided a framework to start from. However, I did see one thing that was not accurate (nit picky part) "Advanced Care Paramedics additionally provide -Advanced airway management in both cardiac arrest and non-arrest patients (i.e. Intubation) -ETCO2 monitoring (measuring carbon dioxide levels being exhaled) -Removal of airway obstructions by direct laryngoscopy -12-lead ECG interpretation -Needle thoracostomy (treating certain types of collapsed lung) -Intraosseous and external jugular IV access (more ways to get access if an IV can't be established) -Manual defibrillation -Synchronized cardioversion (for life threatening abnormal heart rhythms) -Transcutaneous pacing (for dangerously slow heart rates) -Cricothyroidotomy ('tracheotomy') -Treatment of cardiac emergencies according to internationally recommended standards of care -13 additional drugs (Adenosine, Atropine, Diazepam, Diphenhydramine, Dopamine, IV Epinephrine, Fentanyl, Furosemide, Lidocaine, Morphine, Naloxone, Sodium Bicarbonate, Midazolam)" These are not the same thing, and it seems to me that they are being presented as such. Please be careful, as this is a VERY important issue (getting ACP's, not if it's technically correct description). The reason I bring this to your attention is that if you send it with this, and there is someone who does know the difference, then it threatens if not really diminishes your credibility. It might read better if it reads something like-- -Cricothyroidotomy (similar to a 'tracheotomy') or -Cricothyroidotomy (which is a surgical incision in the neck to create an emergency airway) or something similar. Just a thought! Good luck!

Should we go back to Drivers ?
Arizonaffcep replied to crotchitymedic1986's topic in General EMS Discussion
I completely disagree. The company my wife and I own/run is now on our 2nd EMT-B class (has increased in size by OVER 50% since the first one), and we are about to sign a large (by our standards) contract with a near-by fire district to bring a year long Medic program to them! In fact <<knock on wood>> we seem do be doing well enough...we may actually be able to PAY ourselves in the next few months! -
Can anyone remind me why we don't just turn the whole area into a glass parking lot?

Wow...there is a LOT being left out! While I don't know the stroy...I kinda do... :? My wife and I, as mentioned on other threads, are foster parents and are in the process of adopting our foster child. This child was taken (please understand, taken as a LOOSE term) from the paternal grandmother (whom he still has a relationship with) for many reasons...her age (60's) and health (LOTS of health issues, non are minor in nature) plus she already has custody of her son's 2 other kids (12 and 11 I believe). Plus, single mother situation. Our kiddo is 22 months old. Honestly, she just can't keep up with him. A hard situation, CPS here came in and talked to her about it (giving him up to a family for adoption, as part of the case plan assuming non-reunification between Bio-Mom and Child). This is exactly what has happened. He still does have a good relationship with his "Nana," who we hope to continue as long as physically possible. This is why I say, there is a LOT missing from the story. Assuming (I know it's a long shot  ) that Arizona laws regarding foster/adoption are at least similar to UK's, placing a child with family members is paramount, followed by close family friends, and lowest on the priority list is foster family.

As long as the crew has left me with enough stuff to run a trauma code...usually I'm ok. Biggest pet peeves are: needing to decon the ambo, drugs/O2 not restocked. To go with the decon...loose used sharps... -

That's because the researchers were afraid of doing a bad job! There is no right or wrong answer to this "spanking vs not" idea. Partly, it's the parents, but also it's the kids. There are some kids out there that need little more than a point in the right direction and they have it, then there are others who...well watching paint dry can be more productive . -

Actually, my wife and I have talked about this, and we have no qualms about letting our child have a tantrum in a store. Just stand there, and when they are done...they still don't get what they want. Although, I'm not against a single swat (in reason) for a punishment, followed by a time-out and apology by the child for what they did. -
I can agree with him on his points of inconsiderateness (although it should not specify one "type" of person...but rather all of humanity). I can't agree on the rest...my wife and I tried having a biological child for over a year, tried IUI twice...first failed second was ectopic, and then IVF, which ended in a, for lack of a better term, still-born at 16 wks. So...we tried to adopt and have become foster parents and are now adopting a little boy we've had for just over a year now. And no...at 22months old, he STILL doesn't have a teddy bear!

This is an interesting topic here in Southern AZ...only within the last year have we gotten the "Okey-Dokey" to do IM Epi as opposed to just SQ.

Not some...it is the end of one of the worlds of the Mayan Calendar. The specific date is Dec. 24th, I think. It's interesting because independent of the Mayans, many years before...the Ancient Chinese came to the same date and conclusion, along with another civilization I believe around Europe. Kinda interesting...but mostly bunk I think. After all, if I died at the end of the world, what fun would that be?

Gotta wonder if they were edible afterwards... -
Actually it isn't (unless you include all the SRB's and the fuel tank). The FD I worked for had in their first due an aircraft repair facility which, at any given moment, had one of the two 747's that NASA uses to shuttle the shuttles back and forth. It hooks on the back of the 747. Fairly impressive when you see it.

Ya...I was looking at 2 of the pics...the first was what they are calling their cascade filling system trailer...it's hysterical! The other...if you look at the pics...their ladder truck has the old "gum-ball" lights! When compared to the others...it's one extreme or the other! HA! -

Actually, the first picture is not the front of their ambulance...it's of their squad truck. Here's a pic of the front of their ambulance...and a link to their web site. I highly suggest looking at their "other" section for pics...especially what they call their trailer used for portable cascade system! Priceless!! Ok...here's the link for a pic to their ambulance http://fdmh.org/FDMH%20Galleries/FDMH%20Tr...2007%20120.html Here's their link... http://www.fdmh.org/index.html
