  1. flasurfbum Do you know how much they pay an hour. I am interested in becoming a flight paramedic. I also see that they have another position of paramedic is that in a prehospital enviornment or is that in a hospital. thanks dongerva
  2. my wife is trying to get me to relocate to florida. my father inlaw lives in ST. Augustine and my mother in law lives in Kissimee. Volusia county is half-way in between.
  3. I am looking at relocating to Volusia County and was wondering if anyone knew what a paramedic with approximately 5 years of experience might make
  4. We have been a volunteer department for 100 years this year and hopefully a hundred years to come. Our village borders a city that has 5 paid stations I work with them as there primary transport and paramedic coverage and work well with them But with some as soon as I am wearing my bunker gear some of them change but overall my fulltime job and my reputation as a caring individual that is a team player carries over to my volunteer gig As soon as I tried to involve him in patient care and explain every thing to the family and the patient as we were doing it. He became the village idiot. I am a firm believer in an extra trained hand can do wonders and in explaining everything to help aleviate apprehension but all he wanted to do was get into a bash fest he proceeded to take down our tent for patient privacy and pt care that had other patients we were caring for andproceeded to make a spectacle of himself he was more worked up than any immediate family member was. but it was an eye opening experience with these $15,000 go carts the familys were at times more concerned about re living there youth through there children and the $15,000 go cart then there actual children.
  5. WHY DO PAID CIVIL SERVICE PROFESSIONALS AUTOMATICALLY THINK WHEN YOU REPRESENT A VOLUNTEER FIRE OR EMS ORGANIZATION THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. I WAS ON A PUBLIC SERVICE DETAIL AT A 1/4 MIDGET GO CART RACE TRACK DURING AN A WEEK LONG REGIONAL EVENT RECENTLY. WE HAD SEVERAL TREATMENTS AND TRANSPORTS THAT WENT SMOOTHLY BUT ONE INDIVIDUAL WHOSE EXTENDED FAMILY MEMBER WAS IN NEED OF MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS QUICK TO LET US KNOW THAT HE WORKS AS A PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTER. HE INSTEAD OF WORKING WITH US BEGAN TO INTERFER WITH TREATMENT. HE WAS FROM OUT OF STATE AND HAD NO LOCAL MED CONTROL HE BEGAN IMMEDIATLY INTERFER WITH ME AND MY CREW AND DELAYED TREATMENT AND TRANSPORT OF HIS FAMILY MEMBER. SO MUCH SO THAT I NEEDED TO CALL FOR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BACK UP. HE CONTINUED INTERFERENCE UNTILL LAW ENFORCEMENT SHOWED UP AND THEN SCURRED LIKE A LITTLE COCK ROACH. HE CAME BACK AFTER TRANSPORT AND PROCEEDED TO SAY HE HAS A BADGE AND THAT HE IS A CAREER FIREFIGHTER. I AM GLAD THAT THIS INDIVIDUAL THINKS THAT IS ALL YOU NEED TO BE A GOOD EMS PROVIDER IS TO BE A PAID PROFESSIONAL AND A BADGE. I HAVE WORKED IN THE FIELD AS A PARAMEDIC FOR COMMERCIAL SERVICE THAT WORKS WITHIN SEVERAL MUNICIPALITIES AND I AM A VOLUNTEER AND CONSIDER MYSELF A UNPAID PROFFESIONAL FIREFIGHTER/EMT-BASIC. I HAVE WORKED HARD TO CARRY MYSELF IN A PROFESSIONAL MANOR THAT HELPS BRING CREDIT TO THOSE IN OUR FIELD OF CHOICE AND WORKED HARD TO ESTABLISHED A GOOD REPUTATION. I BEEN DOING THIS FOR OVER TEN YEARS AND IT IS NOT THE FIRST TIME. I THINK I AM JUST VENTING BUT IT IS JUST GETTING VERY FUSTRATING. HAS ANYONE HAD SIMILAR SITUATIONS AND ANY ADVICE
  6. Now that we are just upon tax season. Does anyone have any good ideas or know what kind of deductions we can take for being an emt or paramedic?

    cme's

I am looking for web sites for cme credits. I need several hours to complete cme requirements for medical control. they will accept online credits but i am looking to get good cme's and at a fairly low cost (don't have a lot of money) can anyone point me in the right direction.
  8. i hear you I have been a crap magnet lately for last month. I hear your pain just take it easy and find a leisure activity that gets you away and doesn't have anything to do with work. I started the month with a fatal accident with 3 critical patients my pt 17 shallow to absent breathing trismissed unable to bag pt psyching myself to do a surgical trach start to get ready and pt starts breathing yeah. thank god had a drowning and a murder suicide within 3 hrs of each other following morning did a open ankle fx bleeding caused hypovolemia with an altered mental status apparently according to family did it previous night told family not to call for ambulance. two post cardiac arrest patients with dopamine and antiarrthymic, intubated with no one available to bag or do chest compressions if needed. Burn victim other day still have the burning flesh smell in the nose. last night a ten pt motor vehicle accident with a stuff a car ( lets see how many people can fit into a small suv hmmm) so just hang in there it cant get any worse it can only get better. lol
  9. as a medic i did not feel you did anything wrong Do you have the option of finger stick to futher rule out hypoglycemia from fasting from previous night was the oxygen improving the patients color, mentation was there a change in the SPO2(remember don't depend on the equiptment only do a good thorough assessment) looking for associated signs and symptoms other reasons for changes in mentation UTI,Fevers they affect the old very easily. were you able to follow up on pt diagnosis ?
  10. i have done two critical care transfers in last two weeks both rosc from emergency clinics to hospitals both have had decorticate posturing enroute to hosp. something tells me we are doing too good of a job of cpr and bring false hope to these families.
  11. I know it is partially the cost for the lifepack 12 with all the whistles they say it will cost 3000 per unit (14 units) to upgrade and the lifepacks are about to be replaced with more lifepacks or ? zoll. Our lifepacks have been on the road for about 8 or 9 years now we were the first in CT to do the upgrade from the 11. I also agree that it may be the astigmatism of change that has everyone in a uproar. In re guard to the zoll quick pads there is an adapter to use medtronics quick pads because I have seen the monitor with the medtronic pads just have not had opportunity to use it
  12. The company I work for is considering moving from life pack 12 without the b/p module or etco2 to the zoll monitor with all the bells and whistles. I was wondering pros's and cons of the zoll or life pack. I have been using the lifepack as long as I can remember and know life pack seems to be the standard.
  13. four things i am anal retentive on 1) clean rig and restocked equipment 2) a partner that works with you not against you including assisting with restocking and pt care. That keeps similar ideas as me that you treat every pt as if you would want your own family treated 3) portable suction that works and is clean and battery is recharged since we use a suction that runs off of life pack batteries 4) that when we set up stretcher a blanket a sheet and towel is on the stretcher every time every pt I hope that doesn't scare any partners off but this is the way i feel
  14. The service I work for has a motto tattooed on all of our ambulances it says "Concern For Others" was wondering what other peoples ambulances say. P.S. My coworkers agree that it should be changed to "concern for (insert owners name)"
  15. as a matter of fact I did last night. I was on a D/C was feeling quite ill and then all of the sudden I went into the bathroom and blew chunks, technicolor yawn, or sang to the porcelain god but went and finished the transfer. I thought I would last the night but only lasted only another two hours. But as far as a calls would go I have not I have from time to time gotten a little nauseated but have never blown chunks as a result of a call.
