We could possibly go back to Midnight Basketball. That might work.

Gun control does work. Just not the way Rahm Emanuel thinks. Incredible. Sounds like Mexico.

You might could check with the Fire Department in Jersey. They may not mind.

Why does this not surprise me. Only in NJ (I hope)

This is crazy to the 10 The city counsil was "concerned about the possibility of underage drinking". What about endangering the public by operating heavy equipment after drinking. Absolutely crazy. EDIT; Without being a FF it is embarrassing. -
Interview for ED Tech Position (Paramedic)
DFIB replied to jamonic1's topic in General EMS Discussion
Do you know why you are the first paramedic they consider for this position? Because every ED tech I have known or heard of were EMT-B. Dude, you are a medic. You are where I really, really want to go and are applying for a job that an EMT can do. Do you see some escalation benefit in the hospital that would cause you to shortchange your training? Are they offering that good of a pay? Is it a job to tie you over until something else comes along? I in no way want to come off as critical, and I surely don't wand to dump on your ambitions, but I would like to understand what you are thinking. -
This is probably one of the absolute saddest and most infuriating video I have seen. Holy crap It is hard to believe that humans that are sworn to uphold the law could act in such a dastardly manner. It is certanly not an example of the LE that I know in Texas or LE in the third world country I have worked either for that matter. In this day and age, human beings should have more value. This is a video of alleged police brutality. It is heart wrenching for me to even watch. I would like to be able to see the medics testimony in the trial.

Your friend sounds like he was a wonderful man. I am honored that you would tell us about him and his legacy. Thank you for sharing. I will both pray and bury tobacco in his honor.

Make all males "STAND BACK" please.

@ Dwayne I wholeheartedly agree. If they called for EMS then they have to conform to EMS guidelines for the Emergency Care and Transport of Patients. I still venture to think that the OP is concerned of his/her own standing with the Hinus more that what they might think of providers with different belief systems. I think that in this particular case it is more of a personal situation than a general EMS question. I really wish the OP would come back and comment. I have no experience with Hidues (sp?) and am interested in hearing an insiders perspective.

Another Reason We Have A Poor View In The Public Eye
DFIB replied to Quakefire's topic in General EMS Discussion
I like the part where Medics assist EMT's. Does this mean my medic gets to carry my bags now? EDIT: Who ever wrote that article is a total goobersmooch. Email sent to info@careeroverview.com. Lets see how they respond. If you like you can write them as well. Dear sirs, The information that you have posted Career and Education Opportunities for Paramedics in Greensboro, North Carolina is grossly incorrect. It appears that you have listed the job description for EMT' instead of the Paramedic job description. I will provide you with a web site where you can begin to research what the role of an ALS (Advanced Life Support) Provider or Paramedic does. The description you have presented of a "Paramedic's" job is demeaning and insulting. Cheers -
Suggestions on a good text on clinical assessment?

I don't think this is exactly what you are looking for but I reference Tintinalli's Emergency Medicine: A Comprehensive Study Guide quite often. -
Good news for Deep Woods OFF.

They will have to change the name to Knuckles of Our Future Daycare. I hope jail teaches them a lesson.

Hello Rudra, Thank you for posting a question that is so personal to you. I appreciate you sharing your concerns of what could very well be a contradiction between you religious practice and your professional achievement. I hope I am not too bold for suggesting, but I think that the real reason for your question is more of an inner conflict that you would have because your job might require you violate the rules you have practiced and I suppose believe in strongly. I also feel for you because of the expectation of the congregants of your temple toward you as a fellow Hindu. I can only imagine the conversation of the self righteous group if you ever had to attend a medical call in your boots. I am obviously supposing a lot but if I am correct I am sorry I have no answer. Within every faith there are always those that understand the constraints of necessity and others that will criticize them for doing it. I cannot see any service allowing you to work barefoot because of the liability of injury. I also understand you might be in a tight spot. You might consider talking to your religious leader about wearing shoe covers if you have to enter the Temple as a viable compromise. (Echoing ArticKat) I would love to read your thoughts and hear how the situation turns out. Welcome to EMTCity!

They are setting themselves up for very expensive lawsuits. One of these days, one of their officers, in accordance to standing orders, will practice medicine without a license and cost the city a lot of money. They will surely revise their policy then.

Without doing research it stands out to me that these single car, multiple causality MCis occur predominantly among Hispanic people which makes me believe there is a disconnect in the adaptation of modern safety standards into their culture. This is not an issue of wither they are legal or illegal but an issue of people living in the first world under third world standards. The law is less important than the realization of the value of compliance. This could be an area where EMS could focus community awareness. Very interesting.

I suppose that I would be one of the new friends. Welcome back!

If after being mugged by a chinaman you give a description for a police drawing ... What are the odds of them catching the right one?

I make up some BS story about the old lady with sundowners that would run around neked and shoot us the finger as the worst thing I ever saw.

I get anxious for a lot of reasons. Some of these reasons are legitimate and others are just dumb. Setting aside the dumb things that give me the jitters always seemed to help. Here are some things that come to mind. The expectations for EMT students are not very high. At one time I worried a lot about what my peers or preceptors might think of my performance. When I realized that my preceptors don't know me, and could really not care less about how I did it made things easy. I was just another student moving through. I was surprised at how little expectation they had of students, almost like they expected us to know nothing. This was a little disappointing and liberating at the same time. It is not that your preceptor are mean, simply that students are temporary and not every student is good. I was always treated with respect and professionalism. I enjoyed my clinical rotations very much. You will only get from your clinical what you take from them. During my ED clinical I noticed that the hospital staff would not ask the students to do anything really necessary. It was more like they would let us do things that were within our protocols like moving a patient or placing EKG leads. There were some other students present that were not very motivated. The staff was perfectly happy to let them hang out by the nurses station and do nothing. Clinicals can be really fun, so enjoy! I loved my clinicals because I stayed busy. Taking out trash, changing bed sheets, wiping counters, carefully organizing leads and tubes after the patents were gone. By helping the staff do their job (the menial stuff) I got to do a lot of other things that are EMT related that other students were not doing. After a while nurses would ask for help with the tasks that I was indeed there to practice. It also helped that I showed up with cookies or doughnuts! Medic girl and dudley hit the nail on the head. knowledge and practice provides speed and confidence. Work hard at your clinical, ask questions, participate, pitch in for pizza, use all of you knowledge and skills they will allow you and you will do fine.

Should Women Be Allowed In The Augusta GA Country Club
DFIB replied to mikeymedic1984's topic in Archives
We live in a very diverse and society that seems to have an affinity for letting those that are considered somehow disadvantaged or weak to demand things that those that are considered advantaged or strong cannot demand. This results in an unfair dichotomy of expectations where the strong are expected to be inclusive and the weak included, even while the weak retain their right to exclusivity. (I use the term weak and strong for lack of a better term). Lone Star mentions several examples, but there are more that are scandalously observable in initiatives such as affirmative action. By mentioning affirmative action I mean not to imply that one group would be less capable than another but simply that society has created a curve that negates the expectation of excellence. I think that the masters club indeed acted against their desires but not against their best interest. I think they were just in their male exclusivity. They were just to their members that joined and payed dues under the contractual understanding of a exclusively male environment. They are also just in their new inclusive policy honoring the practices they had established with sponsors. When they gave memberships to sponsors without contractually stipulating male exclusivity then their omission obligated them to the derived consequence which would be to accept the members that the sponsors chose to designate as members. It is only fair that if they took a sponsors money they obligated themselves to treating those sponsors equally. These two opposing just positions created the conundrum that brought them to accept female inclusiveness. They will now have to define a new membership nomenclature that will be equally fair. Now I may be in the ditch here but my hypothesis seems pretty reasonable to me. EDIT: What is not just or fair is the double standard that society has created calling the exercise of individual or group ownership rights discriminatory in some cases and acceptable in others.
