I have been a little busy and am sorry I have not been back. There is no need here to state the importance of EMS in society. I mean, I would be preaching to the choir. Our job is not about recognition or glory, it is staying frosty and getting paid to do it, that is, when we are not giving our skills away volunteering, even though volunteering is often the most dangerous time. It is cool to know that our profession not totally ignored by all in society while the "others" ego would not survive without the constant acalades. I would suppose that the general lack of recognition makes a grateful nod seem really special. Thanks for your comments.

Medicaid fraud is a serious accusation and a terrible one to have levied against you. The FBI does not need nor want proof to come into your clinic, dismiss all your patients and take your records, computers, files, everything. All the while they harass your employees. The worst thing is that the accusations can be anonymous and unsubstantiated.

It is interesting that they call them "cop killer" bullets. A Google search indicates that a LE officer has never been killed with an armor piercing round in the USA. You can see for yourself the difference in the tips of the bullets.

Life kind of has a way of doing that, thrusting us into things that we think we "used to like" only so we can realize how much we missed it. Welcome back and welcom to EMTcity!

Sadly this is the story in most third world EMS systems. Guatemala City is considerably safer than a few years ago but Honduras is worse. A word of caution Central Americans are masters at seducing with their misery. If you raise resources I would recommend going through a civilian organization that could oversee the on site delivery and management. Rotary International is often interested in in that sort of work.

Well, I would assume that the coworker would at least know the diseased well enough to know she was her neighbor and that she was dead, and was dumping on the OP after failing to show empathy to their neighbor. I might be assuming too much.
-
I missed the coworker was a neighbor. Did the "good neighbor" attend visitation? Hogwash, such a good Texas word! It is right up there with poppycock, horsefeathers and balderdash.

Wouldn't you like to know!!!

Funny how that works out.

I read this article today. For some reason it made me uncomfortable, almost but not quite emotional. I am not sure why. http://glassheel.com/work-life-balance/time-thank-those-ems-providers Thoughts?

Do they serve buffalo wings in Hooterville?

This is an area that I am not well versed ans hate that you had to go through it, I wish you the best. There are a couple of things to consider in the LE/public relationship. Can a LEO make a lawful order? Sure they can, and do it all of the time. "License and registration please" "Stand over there" "Get on your knees" "Put a weenie in each ear, flippers on your feet and walk in circles barking like a dog", you get the point. Can you refuse to comply with the order? Sure you can, and people do it all of the time, only they are likely to be detained, arrested and possibly even beaten or shot depending on the vehemency of their refusal and the level of professionalism of the policeman, or lack of. Is this fair? Not really but it is the way things work. So what happens if the order is unlawful? The results will be pretty much the same as before. If you refuse you get harassed by the policeman who could not impose his will over yours. The only difference is that in the end, you get paid. By refusing to transport a patient against her will, you protected your patient from police abuse, you have protected you certification and integrity as a provider as well. You will not be charged with kidnapping and potentially assault & battery and the patient cannot sue you. You have gained the opportunity to file a civil rights suit, and sue the Department for whatever emotional, financial, or reputation damages you incurred. You will not successfully sue the Policeman but the department is fair game. I am not a legal eagle but unlawful privation of freedom, libel, and slander are some of the ones that first come to mind. Before you do anything, anything at all, lawyer up. I am not a legal mind but can see that you obviously could benefit from one. A good lawyer can get you justice without ever going to court. STOP talking to anyone about this case until you get a lawyer. Strategy is key in these cases and if you attempt any action without a lawyer you are running the risk of screwing up a perfectly good strategy. There should be plenty of reputable firms that would love to take this case on percentage. If there is a civil rights violation they might even take it pro bono. Let us know how this turns out for you. Best wishes. EDIT: Spelling

I guess we will wait then but the X-ray seems abnormal somehow. If the top one is C1, then C2 seems to be short and the space between the vertebrae looks narrow. I also don't know what those two radiopaque lines in the cephalic vertebrae are. the ones that look kind of like a wishbone. Hmmm.

I would think that guns in the ambulance would be a major violation in most services. Everyone I know (that carry) leaves their gun it their personal vehicle while at work. You might could dress up your vest with reflective tape and a star of life and tell your boss the pouches are for EMS gear. I bet they would really go for that. As a general rule visible outside the clothes tactical vest cause a normal reaction in the perp to shoot for the head because it is visibly unprotected. A "under the shirt" vest would be better I think.

I know absolutely nothing about radiology, I could diagnose the car in the colon from an x-ray, but that is about it. I can only assume that the film shows an abnormality.

The city of Houston has invested $200,000 from a Homeland Security Grant to make a Public Service Announcement instructional of what to when caught up in a Active Shooter Event. It kind of reminds me of the cold war Nuclear Bomb threat PSA films. The video is a great idea. When are they going to make one for the Zombie Apocalypse?

If he is sitting I would immobilize with a KED the concern being a spinal chord section. Moby gave it away with the xray.

True that! You dont even have to be in zombieland to get some good use out of that one. You are never so vulnerable as when you are hobbled and sitting on the pot!

We ran the dogs and caught 4 to 3 hogs in the morning hunt. It was a pretty good day. Those deer will tear up a good truck. Was it a total loss?
