  1. It was not intended to be offensive and I'm sorry you took it that way. But Kat, you called me out when you stated being stationed based doesn't make me a better medic. I agreed and said I was a professional. Meaning this is my sole Profession ie: I get paid for what I do. Nothing more, nothing less. The rest of your response confused me. I think you misunderstood what I was saying. My response was to the Vollie. He is less than professional than me.
  2. I work a 24/72 schedule. Sorry you have to be on call , that sucks and needs to change. Seriously, not having money to pay staff is BS. If the town wants professional EMS they'll find a way to pay for it. There are many threads here at EmtCity that address this subject. I recommend a search. I never said I was a better medic, I said I was a professional.
  3. I understand that, really I do. But not in your scenario. We were at the hospital remember?
  4. Totally uncalled for Chris. I don't have to get out of bed and rush to the station, I'm already there. And seriously, if you really cared about your pt's then you would be too. Our response times would kick your response times ass. But that's not the point. I'm a professional EMS provider and am paid to do a job, just like your day job. I completed my 2 years of college to earned my degree. Why shouldn't I be paid? Just because you're rural, doesn't mean your citizen's don't deserve professional EMS.
  5. If, as the OP suggests, we are at the hospital already, I'd be inclined to initiate CPR and ventilate the pt. while we wheeled them in. Taking the time to apply defibrillator pads would be detrimental to the pt. because, as we all know, time is tissue. The sooner we can get them to definitive care, the better the chance of a positive outcome. Why mess about in the ambulance?
  6. I'll have to take your word for it.
  7. I myself do not suffer from this disease . However, I do sympathise with you as I have witnessed some colleagues struggle with their inner whacker. They can tell which station is being toned out even before the dispatcher speaks. On occasion, depending on the way the wind blows, we can receive tones from the neighbouring county. How bad is it if you can recognise THOSE station tones? Whackerism is not to be treated lightly. You should be able to recognise the S & S almost immediately. I have taken it upon myself to break various partners from this terrible plight. If they turn up the radio just to hear what another station's call is, they get whacked with an ET tube. If they have the pager on an open channel while I'm sleeping, they just get beat down.
  8. Wait, you have buddies who are whackers? And they have these? Dude!
  9. I'm just waiting for the " Wackers gone wild!" video series.
  10. Congratulations 'Zilla! Uber awesome! No need for TV anymore. Just place the child on a blanket on the floor and observe. ( once she's a little older of course)
  11. Read the next quote and see if you think their remedy is back asswards. They still don't get it.
  12. IMHO, T-shirts should only be worn under ( A T-shirt is really called underwear. Go figure) a uniform shirt whilst on duty. We have some issued to us that have reflective "Paramedic" on the back. Perhaps appropriate for night calls after been awaken by the tones, but never during the day shift. My partner and I always seem to be able to be in full uniform by the time we reach the call regardless of the time of day, but I digress.
  13. I worked yesterday. In the morning after we did our station duties and were enjoying a coffee, a woman who we had picked up and was having a MI dropped by with a plate full of goodies and more food than we could eat. She stated she was so grateful for the way we had treated her and providing Christmas dinner for us was the least she could do. Totally unexpected. We had already made plans to cook dinner and had all the food we needed., so today's crew is set . It is always a good idea to bring extra drinks and snacks with you especially if you are on a 24 or night shift. Most stores are closed or have shorter hours of operation.
  14. Another Birthday you ol' fart? Seems like just yesterday I was responding to the same thread. Have a good one from 1 old fart to another.
  15. When i saw the title of this thread, I thought it was referring to my partner.
  16. Personally, I could, probably would, hang in there for a month. I have something I enjoy here and they have been only honest and upfront with me from the beginning. If they inform me this is temporary setback, I will give them the benefit of the doubt. I feel some loyalty to my employer since they worked around my classes with regards to scheduling. They allowed me to do my clinical time here and offered me full-time employment prior to me completing my degree. Due to show previous investments and business ventures, I could hang for a month and be OK.
  17. After the Dayton trip, I can vouch for DD's need of assistance. Anyway, I'm at work tomorrow and I will see if I can book the time off. I've always wanted to attend one of these. And since it's only an 6 1/2 hr drive from here, I'm in.
  18. See ya there! It's almost finished. Oh, and I'm finished the full vehicle body graphic version (think NASCAR) you wanted. :jerk:
  19. This clown would be off my ambulance. I'd get my supervisor to replace him or the ambulance would be out of service until a replacement could be found. Either way, this yahoo would not be driving me and my patient any more.
