    V-tach

    That's just plain tachy.
  2. Our shifts are somewhat the same as Niftymedics. 24 hr on 24 off, 24 on 24 off, 24 on 4 days off. I like it as it leaves some more time to precept and golf, ( when I have a few spare hours, which is rare ). We are stationed in the fire hall, but we are not fire. The station quarters are ok. The sleeping quarters are adequate with decent mattresses, however, we don't use them much. There is a full kitchen where the hose monkeys prepare all meals. Some of them can even cook. Showers are nice and clean. All the comforts of home. Big screen TV, cable, internet, nothing's too good for the fire dept.
  3. Ah yes, Saskatchewan. I spent a week there one day.
  4. =D> Congratulations on your decision! I believe you made the correct one. Hell, if i can do it, you can too.
  5. We'd be glad to have you as a Tarheelian! Here is a link to NCOEMS regarding reciprocity. http://facility-services.state.nc.us/EMS/resopros.htm Here is a list of current Paramedic positions in which to start your search. There is even one listed in the classifieds @ EmtCity. http://www.ncems.org/employment.htm I hope this helps you some. Jim
  6. Sorry. I thought I was going to see a comment from Dustdevil something like, " stay off my ambulance " LOL May this thread R.I.P
  7. " Ah Ah Ah ! Before you reach for that gun, you need to ask yourself one question. Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya.............Punk!" Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry 8)
  8. Notsobrite, you will find them everywhere. In fact, there is even a name for them, it is whacker, wanker, pick your favorite. Unfortunately, your former squad is not alone in being infiltrated by the dreaded whacker. I'm willing to wager that the "officers" had more lights on their POV than on the ambulance. I commend you in walking, no, running away from that situation. I can assure you, you most likely made a wise discission.
  9. -5 for being picky. ( also, -5 for mispelling abbreviations ) It was obvious to all the other posters as well as myself when I read it , that the original poster was from another country. It is also painfully obvious that english isn't the original posters first language. I understood as well you did. +5 to the original poster for their attempt at english and a reasonable first post
  10. Oh the Horror! ( with apologies to Marlon Brando from Apocalypse Now ):laughing3: First, Welcome to the City BearcarEMT. In your future posts, please try to shun away from using letters for words ie: u for you, ur for your etc., it's not very professional. Also, it is almost impossible to submit your post without using the spell checker, please try and utilise it. I have been observing this post and it always comes down to the same thing every time we debate this issue. It becomes a mud slinging, medics vs basics pissing contest. Should Basics be allowed to operate within their scope of practice? I suppose, once proving their abilities to their Medic partners. After all, they are the senior and therefore, ultimately responsible for patient care. Understand, if the basic makes a mistake, then the medic takes the heat for it.
  11. You feel the need to call your significant other just to confirm your directions to the house. You automatically awaken in the middle of the night, fearing you slept through a call, even on your days off. When you refer to the ABC's as airway, breathing and " Can you walk to the truck? "
  12. What a amazing way of saying it. =D> I wish I had said it as well Rid. But I digress...........
  13. The service I currently am employed by is the very same I will be working at when I complete the 1st stage of my medic education ( read certification or licensure, if the are doing that here by then  ). So to answer your question, I do the majority of my clinical time with them. Consequently, I will be doing my internship there as well.

  15. I also work 24hr shifts. We are paid for the duration of the shift. Also, our work week is based on 40 hrs. Anything longer is time + 1/2. . 48 hrs one week, 72 the next. It is a private service that is supplemented by the non-emergency division of the company. Surprisingly, people aren't knocking down doors to work here. :?
  16. I beleive Rural/Metro provides the EMS for Indianapolis. According to their website, they are currently hiring EMT's and Medics for this location. www.ruralmetro.com I hope this is some help to you, oh, Welcome to EMT City!
  17. We were discussing this very subject tonight! One individual actually volunteered to be the patient! On the original question, yes, we did practice IVs on each other before we were turned loose on the unsuspecting public. Nothing larger than a 18g though, anything bigger is just wrong. :-$
  18. I study as often as I can. We work 24hr shifts, so there is always some down time to "hit the books". I enjoy reading ( always have ) so it comes easy to me. True, it can be sometimes tedious and monotonous, If I want to obtain my medic certification, that is what I have to do. I try and set aside some quiet time in the sleeping quarters and for the most part, my partners respect that. Look, I have never been a straight A student. I have to work hard to pass the exams. I do it because I want to. Besides, except for Nip/Tuck on Tuesdays and Grey's Anatomy on Thursdays, there's not much to watch on the idiot box.
  19. 2 back boards works wonders. Picture and Oreo cookie. I have to agree with Herbie here, a little Versed never hurt anyone.
  20. First President? I had a patient today who thought LBJ was the current President.
  21. Some of our medics will work on a BLS truck. They aren't overly concerned about being sued since they are on said BLS truck, that is the level they function as. If it is a basic truck, doing basic calls, they are functioning as a basic. Yes, they are EMT-Paramedics, but functioning as a EMT- Basic and document as such. I hope this makes sense to you, because it confuses me! I have to agree with tniuqs though. I don't think I would want to do it.
