    3 Word Story

  2. I hate to say it. If the accuser's allegations are accurate, then this sounds like Fire's version of the Keystone Kops. Are we truly to believe by simply removing the cruiser would allow for a faster and safer extraction of these people and was dismissed, or was it Whackers R Us trying out the Jaws of Life just because it's a cool tool. I hope all that went wrong on this call was the result of Murphy's Law. Or is it another example of why there should be paid, professional staff that can devote all their energy into training and the job at hand instead of every Tuesday night. Only time will tell. this is a case I would like to follow up on, if only for my own curiosity.
  3. This horse has been flogged to death in other threads. I find it difficult to imagine a MD having to be a RN for 6mths to a year or a RN having to be an LPN before they can continue their education. Basics can do little in the form of Emergency medicine. So having to stay at that level for an extended period of time is of little value. Yes, they can observe procedures being done, but is that helpful? If someone wants to progress in EMS to the level of medic I say go for it!. The prerequisites SHOULD allow for a higher educated student. The more medics we can have, the better off we as a society will be.
  4. I watched it last night for the first and last time. Medically inaccurate, and as far as entertainment value...........wake me when it's over. :sleepy2:
  5. I missed the show ( duty called ), but when the medic pushed the " IV" of Narcan and the pt stood up, did he kick the medic's ass? In my limited experience, we push just enough narcan to not bring them to full consciousness because we all know how violent a junkie gets when you bring him down from a $200.00 high. Remember, your own safety is paramount. I will make it a point to see the next episode. Just to see what I'm not missing.
  6. The service I work at doesn't have "on call". We work 24 hr shifts 07:00am to 07:00 am with 2 crews. Mutual aide is available if the need arises. When I'm off duty, I'm off. No pager, no cell phone calls. That being said, I have been on call for the transport division. $2.50 per hour and if you get called out it is your regular rate, plus the $2.50. I don't make a habit of it, only when they are extremely short of folks.
  7. =D> I can't say for certain, however I have researched some urban systems across the country. If there was a EMS model currently in place Austin-Travis would be close. I base that solely on internet research so take it for what it's worth. Boston EMS is far from it. In fact, it probably is an example of how not to run an EMS system.
  8. But we should be able too. That is the whole point of the many, many discussions we have had here regarding education. Higher education = better providers.
  9. As far as I am aware, your text is correct on all accounts. Sounds like the review needs to be reviewed.
  10. I haven't had the opportunity to use it, however I did glance at it via their website. It appears to be a test preparation aide. It should be useful as an additional reference for class. For $15.00, it most likely is a good investment as long as your instructor doesn't teach to it specifically. Learning how to just pass the exam is not beneficial to you or the profession. Good luck with class. BTW, here is the website. www.prenhall.com/emtachieve It will take you through a demonstration of the site.
  11. In my little corner of the Country, we are required to do a scope of practice skills test as well as have an interview with the medical director before we can actively work in the county. After all, it's is his medical license we are working under and he has every right to know who is preforming under it. If he is not comfortable with some of your responses and doesn't feel comfortable with you as a provider, you can't function in the county, period. Whether you are a certified/licensed EMT/Paramedic is irrelevant. I for one, do not have a problem with this. The protocols are reasonable and they are also flexible with on-line medical control. This means if I/we feel we could help a pt by administering another dose, or a different drug and if it sounds feasible, we will get the go ahead to do it.
  12. Uugggghhhh! Curses MedicMal!
  13. To portray EMS accurately, they would have to show medics sitting around either in the station or perhaps in the mall parking lot waiting to pick up the next frequent flyer. That doesn't make for very good television.
  14. It's like the seven degrees of Kevin Bacon, EMTCity style!
  15. Once again JPINFV beat me to the Google button :x. So then EMT-Johnson is a basic with a penis extension, making up for their educational shortcomings. It's not their fault really. The Medical Director must be out of their mind to even jeopardize his/her license in such a way by even considering this lunacy.
  16. As they should be able to expect. Paid EMS is good! Yeah, What is a EMT-J?
  17. I'll watch it to see how it goes. But I don't have very high hopes. I'm glad to see "Rescue Me" is finally back though! 8) I've always liked Dennis Leary so my view may be somewhat slanted.
  18. LOL, not quite that much of a exhibitionist However, Night-time is a entirely different manner 8) TPBM has been ummm................................... indisposed when the tones went off :pottytrain5:
  19. Call mutual aid because no one answered the page? Hmmm.... We are required to sign up for 24 hrs a month. As your service, the shifts are 06:00 to 18:00 or 18:00 to 06:00. weekdays, weekends doesn't matter. We have a some paid staff members who function in the Paramedic capacity and rotate weekend coverage. It's irrelevant as the county has put all 911 service up for bid except for the City of Greenville which is taken care of by Greenville Fire & Rescue.
  20. Word. The service I work with has several Bariatric ambulances. Some of our stretchers are capable of holding 1,500 lbs. on the ground and 800 in the raised position, the latter is not recommended however for obvious reasons.
  21. Hey Rid. There was a position for EMS faculty on the NCEMS website that I thought required a lot of " letters " after ones name. Here is the link. http://www.ncems.org/employment.htm#Posted 22-May .Just scroll to the Davidson college posting. The program I am currently in required post-secondary reading and mathamatic skills ( all candidates were tested prior to acceptance into the program ) as well as A&P 1. Previous EMS experience was not required, but was beneficial.
