  1. Well said! That is just about what it all comes down to. Self education. =D>
  2. We use the Electronic PCR's in Pitt county. Our particular model is the Toughbook. As, most of you are aware it is a series of check boxes and drop downs ( I know Dustdevil hates these, progress I guess ). The good think about it is once we are in the EMS room at the ED, there is virtually and endless space to write a narrative. All relative information is placed here. I personally like this as I feel a lot more comfortable explaining the call in my own words. Be safe out there.
  3. See, I told ya AC. And Trench, I would say that out loud if I were you, folks might get the wrong idea about you
  4. Arrested? never. Accused? perhaps, I plead the 5th. TPBM is a cyber Casanova/Seductress
  5. Not only your 911 dispatcher, but I think I'll use it too. Terri Smurf, yep, it fits. :smurf: lol
  6. 17/20 8) Not bad for a old guy eh?
  7. Yep, card carrying member. Also a member of the Code 3 club. The person below me is sick and tired of being sick and tired. WOW! Page 16 8)
  8. Good luck Dustdevil. I feel sorry for the Iraq insurgents now! I will keep you in my prayers. Be safe my friend. Jim
  9. After reading the thread about yet another death in our extended EMS family, I have to wonder, do any of you take the EVOC classes anymore? Are they mandatory were you are? We don't have them per se any longer. There is a classroom class and where I work mandatory driving sessions requiring normal and emergency traffic. I wasn't there at this latest wreck so I won't speculate. I do wonder though how the driver got so close to a semi on a Interstate that he clipped it while passing. I will try and follow this story if only for my on interest. In my humble opinion, it should be mandatory everywhere. Even part of the Nat'l curriculum if need be. I realize it's not our fault the majority of the time, but the cops and hose monkeys require it, why shouldn't we? For now though, I'm just trying to get a feel for what's going on out there. Thx for your help.
  10. If your not working, in a word, yes. lol. It smacks of wankerism.
  11. Thanks Dan. I'll be moving to " Jolly old England " asap. It just goes to prove what most have stated here. Education is paramount to progressing EMS to where it should be and the pay which it deserves.
  12. I use mine constantly. I have to admit I'm not in the Captains chair as much as my medic partner but when I am, I wear my belt. the last thing I want to hear when in the back is the driver saying " Hold On ". I still use it when on the bench and of course whilst driving.
  13. Not at all Mike. I guess I wasn't clear as to what I meant. If a newbie comes into the service with the Paragod attitude, they need to be taken down a notch or two. Sorry I wasn't clear.
  14. Marty and Mike, I agree with both of you. Being hard on someone just because you feel like it is your right is inappropriate. However, as Marty stated, questioning of the newbie to be sure he knows what their doing is acceptable. Both of you state quite accurately, that we as providers have many things on the ambulance that can kill people if not used correctly. That is the job of the senior medic, to make sure the FNG knows and preforms the interventions correctly. Mike I agree, some people who come into the service with the know it all attitude deserve to be taken down a peg or two. Hopefully most new medics will not exhibit the dreaded Paragod attitude. Remember some of the new medics have been to college for 2 yrs minimum before entering the service. These folks are not idiots. According to the State they reside in and the beloved NR they are licensed/certified Paramedics the same as you. They may be still wet behind the ears as far as field work, but hopefully they have a clue. The Medical director thought so.
  15. I'll pass on AK in the marble bag. :dontknow:
  16. No, you don't need to hold their hands. But constantly degrading and making them feel like idiots isn't the answer either. Some experienced medics must feel threatened by the newbie with the college education to feel that have to act in such a matter. I can take it and dish it out with the best of 'em, but I really don't see a need for it.
  17. Anatomychick, this is just TOO wierd! 8)
  18. I call BS on this. The FNG is all excited and nervous to be starting out in a new field. The first thing you guys/gals want to do is jump on them. While it may be fun for you, I'm sure it isn't for the newbie. Try and be a little more professional and help the newbie. You're supposed to be helping, not hindering their progress. I have seen it before and have seen good EMS providers leave because they don't want to be constantly chastised. Leave the juvenile hazing to the hose monkeys.
  19. I'm with you scarmedic, Since I'm 85  , I only knew a few of these Artists. That's kewl, Kelly Clarkson is hot! 21. Speaking of horses beaten to a pulp, my horse finished 6th in the Derby today. :x Back to you regularly scheduled thread.
  22. I found a couple of sites that may help you. There are other links from there. I hope this helps you some. http://wps.prenhall.com/chet_limmer_emerge...content,00.html
  23. Thx for explaining this chbare. I appreciate it and now have a better understanding. 8)
  24. Perhaps the medics did a more though assessment and it was determined the pt didn't need to be boarded. Not enough details to make any call here one way or the other.
  25. I think there'a few students in my class that could plain wear one out. We could have used one last week when we had a call similar to PRPG's. I guess ours wasn't working properly, because the hose monkeys were late arriving. They showed up just as we were loading the pt. I instantly was reminded of the snowplow driver, you know, waiting around the corner until you finish shoveling before making his pass and consequently, plowing you in.
