Recertification Question
island emt replied to FireEMT2009's topic in NREMT - National Registry of EMT's
Won't find many working class folks living in KB port. Home of many idyll rich & their summer homes. Summer digs of George & Barbara Bush. -
Lets get this party started! Post something here so we know you're alive!

0315 Truck into tree call . Of course we get there truck had gone airborne plowed a bunch of gravel in the roadside ditch and landed 50 yards down in the woods wrapped around a big tree/ Of course we get there and no occupant to be found. Motors off doors are locked and operator has gone into hiding somewhere until they sober up. Hell of a time to get woke up. -
"In my system we don't use SpO2" The sign of a company that doesn't want to spend $$ on buying pulse oximetry options on their cardiac monitors.
-
Mike: Not picking on you , but the company you are employed by usually requires a pulse & a patch and not much more to be hired. Management figures if you walk in wearing a suit , you are looking for their jobs . The OP is in a competitive marketplace where it will be expected to have professional dress for the interview as it shows you care how you look and present yourself to management and the public. He is in a place where doormen wear a suit for interviews.

I'll wager a bet the CC is the one with all the whacker lights on his vehicle. It is NJ after all. :-}

My wife & I went to different high schools together :-}. We met as member of the Up With People cast, and became close friends , have shared many of the same interests over the years and got married when I was 20 & she 19. We both do EMS and she is also an RN along with other similar activities we share, including raising and training Labrador Retrievers. We are still best friends and this november will mark our 39th anniversary . It takes work and sharing to remain friends and keep the marriage happy.

She was the Zumba instructor with a side business of getting her customers off in Kennebunk Maine. She recently pled guilty to 50 counts and is doing short time in the county hotel. Her list of customers included many influential business men and politicians in that area. -
Is the school CAAS accredited? If not find one that is

Seems pretty clear to me what their wishes are! Whether it meets the legal requirements of an individual state may be something different. Me ::: I would not do extraordinary measures on him/her.
-
I would go in wearing the suit or at least dress shirt with tie. First impressions are a must. Polish your shoes or boots and present yourself as best you can. Have your gym bag with a change of clothes to do the physical agility test in. you could also e-mail back and ask if they do the physical agility test first before spending time with interviews and knowledge testing. Last thing I want to see is a candidate for hire walking in the door in sweats and sneakers.

Did ALL 10 of those "CPR saves "walk out of the hospital neurologically intact under their own power? That is a save? -
Our idiot Governor Porky Lepage made them LEGAL last year, so now we have all the drunk tourist with legally purchased large shell pyrotechnics to deal with as they set themselves and the woods on fire.

Similar to winning awards for being the navigator and lookouts on the titanic. :-} By CPR calls I'm guessing you mean cardiorespiratory arrests? Or were they having chest pain and got CPR? -
Not at all. In my younger days before I decided to grow up , I was a partier. Then I turned 20 & decided to make something of my life and gave up that mentality. No I don't drink other than an occasional glass of wine or a beer & my wife & I don't tend to socialize with the drinking crowd. We been married almost 39 years and are still best friends by the way , since you asked . My tolerance for drunks is very short after working for 20 years at a major motorsports venue and dealing with thousands , even tens of thousands of budweiser fueled morons intent on hurting themselves and others. Saw more self inflicted trauma there than you can imagine , most of it caused by drinking to excess and stupid games.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and take a wild ass guess that you are in NJ. Home of the first aid squad nation and whacker central. Crappy protocols , petty squabbling and million $$ squad buildings with bars in the back room. The last time I had to go to NJ to pick up our new ambulance at the PL custom Factory , we stayed at a Hilton inn not too far away. while we were sitting there having our morning coffee & breakfast there was a parade of vehicle that came screaming by with more lights than our new ambulance. The best one of them was a rusty clapped out toyota supra with four different color doors and fender panels from the junk yard on it from the 80's that had a light bar on the roof, headlight flashers, tail and turn signal strobes and a rear window set of LED's. The value of the car was way less than the cost of all the whacker lights bolted onto it. Our salesman explained that it belonged to an asst chief of the local first aid squad and he was a proud EMT-B with the local service well known for trying to have the most lights in town. Pretty crappy care doesn't matter if you have lots of lights on your junker. -
why would you use quickclot on a papercut??? It is designed to be used for penetrating traumatic injuries where you can't easily apply direct pressure or compression of the arterial bleed with a tourniquet. You obviously didn't read the instructions on proper use.

This is beyond tragic.

an entire hotshot crew gone in one incident. Rest In Peace brothers. -
It's a whole lot easier to not put ourselves in a place where where stupid drinking games or behaviors are taking place. Pretend to be an adult once in a while.

I believe he's currently working in the UAE or Saudi Arabia. Zero alcohol or drugs.

1. What are your thoughts on Diversion programs offered by services for substance abuse/alcohol abuse? Do they work? An EAP or diversion program will only work if the drunk/drug addict wants to make changes to their lifestyle 2. What are your opinions on working with someone who is currently charged (not convicted) of DWI/DUI? They would not be working if I had a choice, & as boss I do. Our insurance carrier would not cover them after charges are filed, even as a non driver. 3. What are your opinions on working with someone who is currently charged with a DWI where bodily injury or a fatality occurred? They should be incarcerated until they go to trial 4. Would you request a change of partner? I would assign them to time out unpaid leave until their court case is done with proceedings. 5. What is your state's stance on someone who is charged? Do they lose their cert? Our state requires self reporting to them if arrested and charged. Investigations board then reviews charges in conjunction with the state attorney generals office to see if it warrants removal of your license to practice.
