  1. At one time there was a waiver for military on active duty, that allowed you to retain your certification, similar to many states and your drivers license. It would behove you to call and speak directly to someone high up the food chain at the natreg. That being said, they are only in it to make money so they may blow you off.
  2. My reply is "baked beans on a pizza" That down right funny bushy. I've used the reply "my sisters cooking?
  3. I think the young lady running the test site felt sorry for this old guy that could have been her grandfather. It was a state gas piping licensing exam and she thought i must have needed it to eat. She did get all red faced when I offered to take it au natural. probably never seen an old naked guy. But then again maybe she has
  4. taking an accelerated medic course will not make you hire able for tactical EMS/swat team type work. Most of the tactical medics I know have years of experience in the field as providers and many of them were military medics in previous employment..
  5. The last time I had to test there it was 8 AM appt. I had my plastic travel mug with me as always full of black coffee. They thought I was going to leave it outside in the locker. NOT happening! I explained I had no problem being all but cavity searched on the way in but there was no way in hell they were removing my vital nectar of the gods from my hand. She got huffy about it and I asked for the supervisor. The supervisor was called on the phone from another state and tried to tell me it was not Allowed. I told him he could come and try to take it away personally. He said company policy , I said a water bottle is allowed so my coffee was going in with me. They said only if it was poured into a different cup??? did they think I was going to sneak the secret code to the answer sheet in my coffee cup???? I did offer to take the test butt naked if it would make them happy
  6. Thank You to both of you. We had some folks that wanted us to do a story about small town rural EMS for EMS week. The reporter called and gave me his version of what he thought the story should be about. I declined to partake in the charade of rah rah sis boom bah.
  7. my wife & I have been through times when I was on the road five days a week, & times where i was deployed for 9 months at a time. We always kept the lines of communication open even when a phone call from Okinawa or guam cost $3.50 per minute. After that we have both worked rotating shifts or opposite shifts.at times. We always made time for each other and still do today. I works mostly days , but try & stay up for her when she comes home from the hospital at 1 A.M., Even if it's just for a hug and small talk. Communication is very important in longevity of a marriage . Good sex is an added bonus. Can't advise how kids fit in the equation as we decided very early on that it was not a world we wanted to bring children into as we had just come out of the Vietnam war and all the violence associated with it. We raise and breed AKC Labradors instead. They are our kids
  8. The exam is written to a 9th grade education level. Yes the computer adaptive testing is a different challenge, It still requires that you have good comprehension of the course knowledge and were actually awake in class & not playing or texting on your phone. anxiety is high, Especially after being strip searched by the Pearson Vue gestapo folks to get into the testing sites.
  9. done; Thanks mike, didn't get that it was just click on the like symbol. Yesterday started out early & ended late.
  10. I would but don't do facebook. Sorry
  11. I'm thinking about any type of deep penetrating injury, thoracic ,abdominal, pelvis, thigh ,bicep. Anywhere one might find penetrating trauma thats more than dermis deep. For skin lacs and superficial wounds sure I can see it working fairly well. But so does a pressure dressing and kling/coban. Plugging a hole on the surface of a major bleed will take a long time for pressure to build and clots to form enough to slow the bleeding. If they're bleeding that badly then it needs more than a clamp on the skin to help staunch the flow. If it's an extremity then a tourniquet is called for if pressure dressing doesn't work quickly, especially with an arterial bleeder.
  12. " We all know that most marriages end in divorce because of finances or sexual incompatablilities, so I ask, DO YOU have any tips about either ? Or do you have any questions ". I would dispute The cause of "most" divorces being caused by money issues or sexual incompatibility. In my view most folks are not willing to put the energy into making a relationship work. You need to develop a relationship on common interests and trust, not how good a roll in the sack they are. Far too many marry the person who provides them with great sex or can buy them what they think they want. what happens when the great sex turns dull???? If they aren't friends and companions first then the marriage is doomed. Many folks that end up divorced have the morals of alleycats. Some of the causes are loose morals and a lack of commitment to your spouse. It's easy to cheat on a relationship and many don't feel they owe it to their spouse to be faithful. I say this as a friend of my wife's, thats been married 38 years and we still enjoy having fun together doing many different activities. the sex is still good after all these years, maybe even better than when we were young We have many friends our age that have been married as long:: only they've been married to several different partners.
  13. Maybe for skin lacerations, but I'm not convinced it's going to help much for penetrating wounds as they claim. Thinking of a knife wound or other similar injury. Your just closing the surface vessels off.
  14. If your only clamping the dermis closed over a penetrating wound with this tool then what are you actually accomplishing? The pt will still be bleeding internally and the clamp is just keeping the awful gory blood from escaping to spill on the street. Clamping a head lac??? why not just pull the sides together and put pressure on it. Like the little dutch boy that stuck his pecker in a whole in the dike. Then his finger, then his toe then the dike collapsed on him.
  15. Rest in peace to all our brothers killed in the line of duty. This has been a very deadly year so far. Lets be safe out there folks.
  16. Congratulation. Job well done
  17. My sister in law has a Benedryl allergy. It IS NOT the dye in the liquid and the capsules. She has quite a few food allergies and medication allergies also. True allergies with hives and swelling of the airway, not just the common itching feeling or naseua that many pt's report. I'm with Ruff on not giving a documented medication allergy without Dr's orders, I'd be heading for Epi if something is really needed .
  18. being preggo tends to bring out the snarkiness.
  19. oil of peppermint in a herbal tea will help with the chumming.
  20. Ugly: Been there done that got the T-shirt.Politics in small services can be a bitch even when those that are against you are dead wrong. Many times it's because they are afraid of change.
  21. Thanks Aussieaid . great input The Zolls have always been rugged and designed for flight use. First saw the M-series used on Airforce medevac flights.
  22. Welcome to the profession Bryon I think Bubba Clintons 1600 $$ haircut came with tonic and a pressure/ suction procedure applied. :-}
  23. My wife retired from teaching and went back to school for her ADN, got hired & has worked for 7 years as an RN in a 250 bed regional hospital. She then completed her BSN curriculum as the hospitals here are pushing it for promotion and pay raises. She has also become certified in Chemotherapy & hospice care. The hospitals are looking for more than the basic RN today. They didn't care that she previously had an AAS, B ed & M ed before going to nursing school. They are not hiring many new ADN RN's today, as preference is given to BSN degreed RN's. Yes it is part magnet status and part looking good for Jacho. It's all about making the administration look good and allows them to fill in the check boxes on their scoresheets.
