  1. He's now the guy that tells you to bend over and cough whilst he snaps on a glove.
  2. holy crap Bushey: We thought you'd gone walkabout. Good for you though it will mean going back to school and cracking the books.
  3. terminal pork poisoning will pass after 9 months.
  4. You have done well over the past decade since we first " met " Mike. You have pushed the limits of prehospital care potential. You have moved into a new subspecialty of emergency medicine through hard work & education. And you still find time to be with us mere mortals :-} It's good as you youngsters can take care of us old folks in the future.
  5. Thanks Houston. Thats the sort of feedback I'm looking for. If you are about to spend 30k + for a monitor , it helps to get field impressions from others. Tired of having to lump 20-25 lb boat anchors around getting carpal tunnel from :push ""turn click
  6. The pay and schedules for an RN are much better in the majority of the U,S, However you will find that an ADN will only go so far in the hospital genre. Many systems are requiring a BSN as an entry level. The IAff is only interested in saving union jobs , so that the union bosses can keep their multimillion $$$ salaries and multi-million $$$ homes in exclusive neighborhoods hiding behind gated security apes. How much did your union pay shittburger to be a figurehead last year? What did you get as a benefit from him buying votes? You got to keep your job for the time being. Until the next budget cuts come along
  7. Welcome to the city Chris. Perth is a great place to be from. We visited there for a couple weeks back in 1976 when we were stationed up the coast at Exmouth.
  8. love the sarcasm Doc In our small semi rural community , we use the slogan: Neighbors helping Neighbors We even take care of the tourists who show up right after mud season and spend their time & money on their weekend places. If it's tourist season ::::: do we need a license to hunt them??? PG 75
  9. Look at it as a chance to form your new basic into someone who can excel. With the ink still wet on their license, they won't have had time to develop any bad habits. Let them know what you expect and let them know you set the bar high. Then help them become a great basic. The fact that he is older shouldn't be an issue. Let him know that you are in charge and responsible for your safety, his safety & the patients well being. I have had older & younger partners. They all were assigned to me to learn the street smarts to allow them to stay alive and become better providers. A lot of them had a higher license level than i did at the time and that could cause issues with some of the newbies until the boss explained why they had been assigned to me to learn outside the classroom. decades of street experience could trump a 6 month classroom course anytime. When you explain to a young Paramedic that your boots are older than they are, they tend to pay attention, or they do it their way until they run into a problem they don't know how to fix. Then they come to gramps and ask for help.
  10. How about: Celebrating 30 years of helping our neighbors ?
  11. Something about his presentation made me not sure of AAA diagnosis, & I'll admit I don't know what. Maybe the chronic ETOH & liver failure along with dialysis tx regimen. Seen this presentation before. Fentanyl would have been my choice for pain.
  12. Welcome to the city. Your learning has just begun. Go out and learn something new every day of your career.
  13. Good for him & the company that has put him to work. He's doing transports so not likely to get into a situation he can't handle just fine.
  14. OK Haley: back to your question for Your friend. There are emergency room tech jobs that sometimes hire EMT'B's ,but most will want either advanced or paramedics. summer camps hire live in emt's , amusement parks, also hire EMT's.
  15. there is a reason we call them Organ Donors, or donorcycles. I used to own and ride a bike, then I worked at a motorsports facility. [ large racetrack ] which ran both auto racing and AMA motorcycle racing on the big road course. Some incredible riders and some incredible injuries and deaths. On the street , no matter how cautious and safe a rider you are, there are always dozens of other drivers that never see a bike. You need to weigh the pros with the cons. You on a 5-700 lb motorcycle vs Mabel q Public in her 5600 lb suburban and she's texting while approaching the intersection you are legally going through and following all the laws. Whos going to win that battle? Pros::: freedom and lots of fresh air. bugs hitting you in the throat at speed , birds hitting you in the chest at speed, the dog , turkey or deer that suddenly runs out in your path. the sudden rain storm that gives you a free shower while on your way to work. Easy extrications for the local EMS folks. I think you get my views.
  16. That would be the EMPIRE :::: Pulse & a patch are mandatory requirements to be hired. :=}
  17. Welcome to the city Haley I think California requires a medical card Doc. I'd guess a seizure disorder as a 10 yr off meds condition .
  18. Those days are long gone Doc. Especially with Fire service based EMS and Third service EMS systems. The NIMS courses are required for government employees and anyone who applies for govt grants of any kind
  19. Nowadays most places require all the NIMS bullshat along with hazmat awareness. There are some states offering the autism spectrum disorder as part of the course.
  20. Because then the pt won't remember hearing me go OH SHIT ,OH SHIT :-] I'm not sold on the AAA but it's always possible to not feel the pulsating mass with a distended abd. The description of " radiating into his back; "feels like it is ripping me in half." Pain does lead us down that path of DD. Did you check femoral pulses by chance? Whatever the cause this guys definitely circling the drain and someones already pulled the plug. It's going to be a long ride trying to keep him stable.
  21. Sounds like liver failure to me, thats why I asked about jaundice.
  22. do you have a flack jacket?
  23. Welcome to the city. You must be down south in the wicks with the empire
  24. Doc is correct: This has for the most part been an exchange of views in a civil manner. Background checks are just that. A review of a persons past criminal history to see if they should be allowed to possess a firearm capable of killing others. If you have convictions for assault or domestic violence or repeat drunk driving then NO you shouldn't be allow to possess firearms. It really is that simple
  25. Chronic alcoholic circling the drain Whats his skin look like? Mucosa? Sclera of his eyes?
