Sounds like the size of your balls surpassed the size of your brain on this one. Any signs of drug / alcohol intoxication? Pictures of family on the walls or mantle? If so, Any chance of them talking him down? What does his demeanor appear to be. Is he highly agitated or calm cool and determined? This will make a difference in whether he can be reasoned with. If he's highly agitated then the odds are you and your macho partner are going to have a hard time talking him down, so the chance of jumping him and disarming him comes to mind. That or you sit tight and compliant until the law enforcement team take s control, through negotiation or tactical entry.

Not something commonly found in rural areas. Nearest decon trailer is well over an hour from us. We don't have any manholes for the power or phone company to need heaters for. While that will work in suburban areas ,we rural folks have to come up with our own solutions.

Thats almost as bad as using the " Q "" word.

Ya done good girl :-} It's always a pleasure to get feedback from calls like that. Congrats on not letting your relationship with your former employer get in the way of quality pt care. Even more for the multiple saves on a guy circling the drain in spite of the best efforts you all put into him. Like you, I'm in a small community where we often know our pt's and seem to get feedback from some and not from others. I often check the obits to see if a pt has ended up there. that or when the lady at the post office gives me thank you notes addressed to ""The ambulance crew" Bailey Island . They always end up in my mailbox.

Elderly Woman Dies After Nurse Refuses to Give Her CPR
island emt replied to Kaisu's topic in EMS News
Was she truly a nurse , as in RN or a licensed practical bedpan changer? or even less a CNA? The CEO of the place stated she followed corporate policy & procedures manual. This was not a nursing home type of facility , it was an adult living complex according to the article I read. A place where they provide laundry service and common dining facilities for seniors who can afford the costs. On the other side of the story? what are state requirements for these type of facilities, besides warehousing rich folks when they get old? Maybe someone from the land of fruits & nuts can give us this info. -
as far as insurability as a driver, most risk management policies require between 5-10 years after a DWI/DUI conviction. Your serving in the Coast guard shows you have taken responsibility with your life and if the rest of your driving record is clean , shouldn't be a problem getting hired with most companies. Some companies require a pulse & a patch, others are much more interested in risk management practices, and self insured companies tend to be the strictest in requiring spotless records in a background check, both criminal and driving . Good luck

One lost in rollover

She doesn't look too bad Trevor. Hope the crew member is all right with no long term issues from this. Besides bending the bosses favorite truck. -
Wool is fine until it gets wet , OR you have a crew member or Patient Severely allergic to it. Synthetic thermal blankets are much better with a wind barrier space blanket on the outside as a wrapper.

Medic Dead, One hurt in Indianapolis Crash
island emt replied to ClutzyEMT's topic in Line Of Duty Deaths & other passings
Being legally drunk does not matter here. The driver caused the vehicular deaths of two people though negligence in operating a motor vehicle. In Maine that would probably bring vehicular homicide charges at a minimum. She killed two young providers. -
Medic Dead, One hurt in Indianapolis Crash
island emt replied to ClutzyEMT's topic in Line Of Duty Deaths & other passings
From the Indy newspaper today: INDIANAPOLIS - Prosecutors will not file criminal charges against the driver in the ambulance crash that killed two Indianapolis EMTs. Cody Medley, 22, of Indianapolis, and Tim McCormick, 24, of Greenwood, were fatally injured in the Feb. 16 crash at St. Clair Street and Senate Avenue involving their ambulance and another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle, Jade Hammer, 21, survived the crash. So it seems like the district attorney places no value on the lives of two EMS employees killed as a result of the actions of a young driver with alcohol on board that ran a red light and hit their ambulance broadside. SHAME ON YOU ! now if the ambulance had hit the car and the other driver was killed , then charges would be filed and heads would roll. Talk about a double standard! -
Welcome to the city: Even if you are a truck ape. From a dual hatter in Maine.

But I was the supervisor, & my partner owned the company. Since my partner came up with the phrase ::: ALL was good.

We were working with providers from 4 different states that came in to work these major events and they all understood the meaning. We could have, but the universal Whale down' was much easier to understand. We could also have used morbidly obese pile of adipose tissue or someone the size of three normal beings or guy's the size of a 2 car garage. or bring the 20 foot straps ,cause the 9 footers won't make it sorry if our vernacular struck home but if you don't offend at least 1 person a day in this job, your not trying hard enough.

Yet another air medical crash.
island emt replied to paramedicmike's topic in Line Of Duty Deaths & other passings
We have one flight service offering rotary wing transport for the entire state of Maine. Lifeflight of Maine has two helicopters, one based in Bangor and the other inLewiston. https://www.lifeflightmaine.org/ In the past 15 years I have flown 4 pt's. One was a drowning that was resuscitated with severe hypoxic brain injury, another was a child burned over 70% BSA who was flown directly to Shriners burn hospital down in Boston Mass, another was a construction worker with severe thoracic crush injuries from a wall collapse, and the last one was a multi systems trauma with head & neck injuries with an extrication from the cliff she fell off onto the rocks below. There are a few others that were flown to the trauma center/ cardiac cath lab from our local hospital ER after stabilization. The flight crew trainers came out and we have set up several LZ's which are safe and pre-plottedin their flight GPS. They tell us if we think the need might be there to put them on call and they will get back to us after the pilot makes a determination on weather meeting flight minimums. We have been turned down at times & met them on the mainland at the hospital helipad for further transport to higher level of care facilities.. Their system is set up with the pilot being blinded to type of call other than location. They then determine if it's safe to pull the mission and discuss with crew for final approval. These changes came about after a previous flight provider put a bird in the ocean over Casco bay killing the 2 flight medics and the pt on board a few years earlier. There are some areas of the country served by multiple air services and it seems the competition to make calls might over reach safety precautions sometimes. corrected URL -
The sand there captured more than just racecars & bikes. :-}

Yes richard: We did use the code word "whale down" when we encountered a pt over 350 lbs up in the grandstands. It started 2 additional teams so that we ended up with a minimum of 6-8 EMS providers along with a backboard and all the code gear in addition to the 3 man crew from the initial BLS response. Trying to bring someone that large down 50 rows of seats was an easy way for our crews to get hurt. we're talking a five story climb up to pt and then a five story climb back down with the pt on a board. We were using encrypted radios , so no one was listening in to our internal transmissions. We also had track radios that everyone could hear, so we didn't use them much. Only to respond to security or guest services calling for one of our 20 teams for help. We were there in the mid 80's when the locals started the noise ordinance crap. What a shame that a bunch of newcomers can force a place like the Bridge to shut down so they can develop expensive estate homesites.

buy some good quality yogurt and mix in some fresh fruit, put it in smaller containers that hold 6-8 oz. Then when you need a snack your all set. We use stoneyfield all natural vanilla, in the quart container & always have some frozen maine blueberrie sand strawberries in the freezer to mix in. Much less costly than buying individual ready to eat sized containers. Plus it doesn't have all the sugar the ready made fruit yogurts have.

We did work the GP in 77 &78. Still have the T-shirts somewhere. We used to take the ferry over from Bridgeport to avoid the traffic down into the city and back out the LIE. Was expensive but saved about 4 hours stuck in friday night rush hour . We lived in the Hartford /Springfield area at the time. Had friends that lived a couple miles from the track and that became the crash house/ party central for all the flaggers. from around New England.

We used to go out to bridgehampton a couple times a year for NY region SCCA nationals. We were working the corners as flaggers. Lots of fun except for the fine sand in every crevice. Actually working the big events was a lot of work and very long hours. We worked from sunday to sunday and averaged 18 hrs / day for the week.. A town of 5500 locals , becomes a city of 125,000 for a few days twice a year. when the redneck express rolls into town. Took a lot of managing to provide All prehospital care for that many folks and provide the on track and grandstand coverage , along with a couple thousand acres of camping grounds 24 /7. We had two resource hospitals , one to the north and the big trauma center to the south in Concord. At times we could have as many as 20 trucks on the road at the same time shuttling PT's to one or the other hospitals. If you need to learn IV starts. work the grandstand aid station. We would start an average of 200 per day for the July event with all the dehydrated "customers" who had been consuming alcohol only for 5 days.. We used to call that position the shooting gallery, send all the mew intermediates and medics there to get practice. Then there was Always the dreaded call of "whale down in row 50. Arrive to find the roving crews working a 400 pounder up in row 50 and no way to get him to an elevator..

Earnhart jr. might as well have boobs:: cause he's got no balls. He's been living on daddys name for way too long. I've met both of them on many occasions and jr will never be the man the Dale SR was. Dale was the intimidator in public personna, but as a human being he was really nice and even brought us ice cream one hot day after we brought him in to the infield care center. When helping Sr after a crash , he was apologetic for making us work, Jr threw a punch at my partner and kicked the shit out of the ambulance because he was pissed for crashing all alone during qualifying. A tantrum expected from spoiled children. That was one on my trips to the big red trailer after I threatened to kick the shit out of him for attacking my partner. Earned me a fine , lets not do that again from BIG Mike . while Jr got a big fine.$$$$$ and a serious ass chewing. As I said , worked behind the scenes for 20 years. The best show of most race weekends, was the hauler parade on Thursday morning so that we could get them all parked in the proper order in the infield. And all the drunk chicks flashing us poor ambulance guys.

Blame the hype on the nascar management & owners. They have been seeing lackluster attendance in recent years and are hoping Danica will make the wives and kids want to attend the races. In case you haven't figured it out::: nascar is simply about the money. If they could get a hundred thousand folks to show up without them running any races , they would. It's all about getting those folks to the nascar concessions and spending lots of money. I worked at a major motorsports venue for over 20 years and have seen all the behind the scenes stuff that makes nascar, Indycar ,IMSA & SCCA racing function. Every nascar team has multiple concession trailers in the park selling all their team branded gear. Bring the kids down and get an autographed hat for $30.00 along with a genuine drivers suit for your 4 kids at $150.00 each and a genuine team look alike jacket for the wife @ $300.00. After you spend upwards of $75-100 each for a ticket to get into the park, it's easy to spend a grand or more over the course of the weekend. Ownership or control of the majority of the tracks directly by ISC / The France family is key job # 1 along with padding their bank accounts along the way. Yes I have been called into the big red trailer for a chat with the boss a couple of times over the years.
