If your talking about the American red cross advanced first aid, CPR & AED for the professional rescuer 16 hour class, then you'll have a 15 minute lecture on emergency childbirth. back boarding is not in the syllabus . The CPR & AED portion is 7 hrs & testing time , which leaves less than 8 hrs for the entire first aid portion of the class.

We use a one time disposable type. Don't know the brand off the top of my head. Orange plastic with a white plunger, Snap it punctures and safes the needle. If I remember the price was $25.00 ish for 250 in a box. Get them from boundtree catalog.

It meets the requirements of secure storage & tracking put on us by the state. Everyone get's their own pin # and we can download who has accessed the vault onto the laptop for tracking purposes. Keeps them happy and off our backs.

Well thats just FOOKED UP. The pt's were walking around and able to sit down in her car to get out of the weather.. Someone's crack will get buttered over this one. If the service had any smarts at all they would get her a new car for the good publicity it would bring. "Here you are ma'am <<< for your kindness in helping strangers. The keys to a brand new holden." make a big public relations coux out of it. But they'll be wankers and leave her riding the tube.

Public Relations, you're doing it wrong

I would ask them to respect the patients privacy. Ask them how they would feel if it was their family member being posted on you tube. I would not put my hand on the camera or get in a testosterone spraying contest. -

You'd think that as a volunteer chief pulling in 97k a year, he would be able to afford a pair of big boy pants. -

It's long Island Kate. They do things differently out there. If he had a problem with someone taking video , you would have thought it would have been before they wheeled the Pt by. -
Dyna Med Modular Bag (Video Review)

Since you bring up EPI: studies have shown that it remains viable and safe for up to several years past it's labeled expiration date unless exposed to extreme heat conditions. The study was done by the US army research group at Ft Sam Houston ,If I remember correctly. It was about ten years ago. -
My concern for this patient is : He is probably in shock, if not pathophysiologically, then mentally. He's not feeling pain and hasn't had the blood loss, but if the original crush tamponade lets go he will more than likely bleed out. . He stands a good chance of loosing the limb if not his life from blood loss or serious infection setting in due to the dirty nature of the wound. You were in a catch 22 situation, no doubt. You cannot force him , but you also know the severity of the traumatic injury will be possibly life threatening. My thoughts are: I'm sitting tight until he either tanks or the wife shows up, and I would explain to her the severity. If she's like most wives she will tell him to stop being stupid and go with EMS. One more thought: without circulation the lower leg will become necrotic in a couple hours time.

We require a minimum grade average of 85% to be allowed to take the end exams and sit for the state tests. any less and bye bye. Thanks for wasting our time. The EMT basic course is written on a 9th grade level.

An ambulance should never be speeding through traffic with lights and sirens. There are very few patients that will benefits from a speedy ride. Probably less than 5% of all patients need speed over comfortable stable transportation. We can go a week or more without turning the siren on here. It is used to alert traffic ahead of us that we would like to pass by them if they're too busy with the cell phone to pay attention to our lights. I don't care what kiwi says about the adrenaline rush of racing through traffic, I'm not putting myself or my crew in danger to cut 30 seconds off a transport.

the steering wheel operation is the sole jurisdiction of the basic. along with humping bags and fetching the stretcher.

Where Do I Start In My Journey To Becoming A EMT
island emt replied to ACurtis12's topic in Education and Training
thats because in many places an EMT Basic is on the same or lower pay scale than a burger flipper at mcD's or taco bell. You are a body to employers and cheaper by the dozen. -
Some places only care about taking money from folks, others screen to make sure students are capable of learning + passing the class. You do realize a 2.0 is barely a C

hany students are usually in a class ?
island emt replied to Trm90's topic in Education and Training
We require 16 minimum to run the class. That covers the costs and pays for the equipment fund. At least to start the class Weed out the non performers along the way. -

not upset at all. Just giving the correct information. He asked me previously for info on his classes and I hooked him up with my connections throughout Southern Maine. After many tears in this area, I have to go to many meetings with other service managers and chiefs. It is a small field we play in , so knowledge of whats going on in the region is pretty common knowledge among the chiefs. You are correct in the need to verify anonymous info gotten off the web, Thats why the OP contacted me by PM.

Actually the NFPA did a study and the results have made their recommendation and requirement that helmets not be worn in Fire trucks while driving. They must also be mounted in a safe mounting bracket to keep them from becoming airborne missiles in event of a crash.

Yes it was ME that responded to him. I am very familiar with all the players and all the actions behind this story. What info I passed on to him were facts, not suppositions of a news reporter or someone with a private agenda. I know all of the players both old & new of this organization , many of them personally & professionally. also the back stories behind what transpired. Those are the facts that I passed along to the OP along with my name . So I'm not an anonymous internet source. Pretty easy to figure out who I am by reading my avatar. spelling edit
