  4. Mid 40's here in Maine today & tomorrow.
  5. To tag along on this idea of expiration dates. How many services pull perfectly good medical supplies based strictly on expiration dates printed on the wrappers? What do you do with these items? Do you use them for training or just pitch them? Why do thing like sterile water or powdered charcoal have expiration dates on them? How about band-aids? Oral glucose? Airway adjuncts like nose hoses or ET tubes? Did you know that the chemical hot & cold packs expire? The above are all things the state inspector checks dates on every year in addition to the medications. I have to pull hundreds of dollars worth of supplies off the ambulance every year based strictly on expiration dates. I box them all up and deliver them to a medical relief agency that sends them to needy nations where they have medical missions with few supplies available. Third world nations like Jamaica or Haiti or Texas.
  6. Get some Yak tracks . Studded snow tires for your boots
  7. Congrats Mike ! It's great to hear that you are now in debt up to your eyeballs. My wife just finished her BSN program to add onto her B.ed, M.ed ,ADN & now BSN. so I know where your at. Chris: the hospital where my wife works paid $XXXX per year towards her degree program as they are pushing for the BSN . It didn't pay for everything but covered most of the base tuition cost. The state also has several funds for older students getting back to college.
  8. I'm still looking for an answer to this ?????????? The whole " do no HARM " thing .............. Transporting them to an appropriate facility is fine, Why are you sedating them? Are they violent? Are they threatening to do harm to themselves or others? If so then they can be cuffed to stretcher and have Law enforcement come along for the ride.
  9. thats a good place for it. will help the drought.
  10. No matter what you are calling it, the odds of successfully regaining your full strength and stability of your spinal column will have many variables. You ability to go through the surgery and how they decide to repair it. There are people with steel rods implanted that are back on the job, and folks that are sitting in recliners feeling sorry for themselves.
  11. Why are you sedating them and strapping them to a backboard? Do they have a spinal injury? Seems to be a blanket protocol to get sued to me.
  12. Thats what you get from putting your brain in gear. But thats a pretty good revenue producer 800 km round trip
  13. I can't believe no ones mentioned this one on early EMS Mother Juggs & Speed It's a classic
  14. University of New England in Biddeford Maine has an excellent reputation for it's PA program. They also have FNP and DO programs that are well respected.
  15. I know of one service where the Medics carry their narcs in a fanny pack. They are issued their own med pouch and carry on person when on shift. Seems to work for them as they may swap trucks as needed.
  16. I know Dating myself. Most kids today don't have a clue what we're talking about.
  17. In our area we have two tertiary hospitals, longest at either was about 45 minutes when we had someone who couldn't be put in a chair to wait. More critical pt's always get seen within 5 minutes for eval and transfer to a bed. Might be a hall bed brought in from day surgery , but they are still evaluated and placed in the waiting for follow up care line. Some might go to X-ray while waiting. If we go to the big city trauma center/ Cardiac center/ stroke center, an hour 1/2 south low acuity go through triage and high acuity right to trauma room or cardiac ICU. We have a stemi system protocol in place that lets us bypass ER and go straight to Cath lab floor for transfer.
  18. it takes work from both parties & a lot of give & take. we have many of the same interests and willing to make the effort to try something the other wants. today she's off to Mass with two of our labs for a dog show and I'm here with the older two doing house chores. Tomorrow we're going to go north to camp and do a little snowshoeing and have a nice quiet walk in the Maine woods. Above all :: We're still friends
  19. You need to know when to lie to them. I've been married 38 years & still trying to figure when.
  20. Similar to being asked if " this dress makes me look fat? and answering, " no but it makes your ass look big" epic fail and plan on spending several nights on the couch.
  21. The big city departments will take in an average of several thousand applications for every hire they get funded for.. FDNY you would be at the bottom of the pile of thousands of EMS providers. that means harlem , or huntspoint on the graveyard . Boston EMS is a separate entity from fire. Even if you are a medic, you hire on as a basic and when they decide your ready you go to their academy to be brought up as a Paramedic. You would stand a better chance at expanding your horizons into some other areas that do Prehospital care well in the fire service if that is your goal. Getting your Paramedicine degree will not guarantee getting hired. Lots of cutbacks and layoff in the fire service lately. FF's cost serious $$ in a town or cities budget, $$$ that aren't there any more. So my recommendation to you is DO some research and homework first.
  22. R I P for the crew. May their families have peace and solace in knowing they were doing their best to save others lives.
  23. for a little change we could send dwayne to deal with the EX.
  24. just take a look at the OP's threads and you will see a certified Galls whacker. Threads like headlight flashers and how to spend $$$ putting strobes on his pov, how to make his pager work like a stn alert plectron. Severe case of wackeritus.
