  1. we yankees decided to let you southerners have some of the fun. Have spent the better part of the last week shoveling snow. Besides: When I lived in Mesquite 2 inches of snow was enough to cancel everything for at least two days. raids on the grocery stores and liquor stores so they would be safe at home.
  2. You mean the office hottie in the short dress wasn't banging the FF's in the decon room at your station???
  3. Devin was a member here way back in the dark ages. Another NJ guy. Lots of stories about UMD crews.
  4. Welcome to the city stretcher fetcher Trevor: If you knew the Joisey system , you would understand why the comment.

Hey Herbie: Sorry for your issues. Glad to see your back.
  6. They get lonely without DAAAAAADDDDY
  7. Makes me think of the Lactate monitors that were promoted heavily over the past few years. Now the company that made them is pulling out of the business and the test strips will only be available for a little while longer. A lot of services wasted money on that venture. Glad I decided to wait and see if it was worth the cost.
  8. Would you trust something from the terrorist capitol of the world to be used for patient care??? Just saying::::::? Plus it will probably never receive clearance from the FDA or other certification agencies.
  9. Dwayne is back in PNG playing with the pygmy headshrinkers. And the sheep .......
  10. My comment was to Mike about buying PPE. If a service can't afford a $100.00 worth of medical equipment for it's first responders, then it shouldn't be providing the service..
  11. Throw a few more prawns on the BarBie for us Craig. It -5 C here tonight and just finished snowblowing the latest 10 inches of fluffy snow.
  12. Quigley has been doing conversions for over 25 years. They are an approved OEM up-fitter and sold through Ford & GM dealers. http://www.quigley4x4.com/ I know of several services that had their type III's done by them.
  13. They're both E350/E450 Ford chassis. The new one is a chevy. Ford stopped delivering diesel E series chassis's.
  14. psych beds are getting hard to find. One of out two regional hospitals actually has a secure ward with a dozen beds, and two secure rooms in ER. Problem is those bed are almost always full and they may have to ship a PT. 7 hours north to find an open bed in an appropriate facility. Juveniles are even harder to find placement for. edit for spelling
  15. 1971!!?? That's waaaaaayyyy before Johnny and Roy!! You are old. Yes : But then I already knew that. Ask my hips, knees & lower back. They'll agree!
  16. Welcome to te City. As a newbie the best thing to do is listen , observe ask questions and let your brain soak up as much as it can handle. I started as a 17 yo ambulance attendant back in the dark ages of EMS. I had a red cross advanced first aid course under my belt and took the AA class . That was back in 1971. I still spend lots of time listening and learning every chance I get. You can never know everything there is to know. Had a very challenging call the other day. Afterwards the ER Doc sat down with us for a little discussion after we asked him what might have been done differently. He explained all the things that were done in the ER. [ All of which were outside our protocols ] And complimented us on how we had brought the gent back to life in spite of all the odds stacked against us. I learned several important things about the process that occurs when a dialysis pt is 24 hrs overdue and how the interaction of certain meds complicated the process. Great Doc and Well worth the 15 minutes he spent with us.
  17. In this area ADN's can find work in the hospitals, but the upward mobility is limited to those with a BSN.
  18. LPN's are a assisted living and nursing home level skill for the most part now . A few hospitals still hire them but nowhere near as many as in the past. Ambulances in the US are staffed primarily by EMT's of the various license levels. Basic , Advanced & Paramedic. There are some specialty transport teams that have RN's and other hospital staff such as respiratory therapist or DR's for critical care or pedi neonate teams. There are also Paramedic Flight Nurse positions in rotary wing EMS and fixed wing air transport.
  19. Requiring a volunteer to purchase their own PPE would be a flagrant violation of the OSHA standards and is potentially against the law. Same goes for medical equipment. Had someone contact me when their department required them to get the Hep series and pay for it themselves. A quick copy of the OSHA standard made short work of that.
  20. So you start in 3 weeks? I can give you some contacts in this area where you might be able to do your ride time. There are ways, if you get my drift. Send me a PM.
  21. My bad: I was trying to get the brain to fire. Was thinking ACP
  22. Welcome: As a student at SMCC you will be assigned where you do your ride time. The school has agreements with many different services. Talk to Scott about your options. Most of us rural providers transport to Maine Med when the level of acuity demands it. Central lincoln county is no different than any of rest of us along the mid coast. We went there the other day in the midst of the blizzard, which entailed an hour &1/2 transport time. You don't mention where you are living while attending SMCC. There are quite a few services within a short distance of the college that work with them for student ride time. We have a member in the SMCC Paramedic program , who is doing ride time with a couple of the fire departments in this area to get the call volume needed. Most EMS in this area is Fire Dept based. There is also Northeast mobile medical which is based in Scarborough and Topsham. If you need contact info PM me. If you go to the Maine EMS website there is info on the Community Paramedic program. As far as I know there are 7 or 8 services in the trial program at this time. It will be evaluated this year and changes made at the state level to allow the expanded scope of practice needed. Maine is a very large state geographically and has a diverse system of prehospital care. from where I am , it's between 6 &8 hours north to the Canadian provinces depending on where you want to cross the border. If your goal is Canada , you will need to meet their immigration requirements and enroll in their 4 year degree program for PCP.
  23. My wife just finished a BSN program that was mostly online. There were a few courses done by the statewide teleconference system & the rest were online with 1 or 2 class meetings for an afternoon as a group. There were 12 students in the program from all over the state
  24. NO SHIT sherlock
  25. Wow: I was bored , so I click on the youtube video the OP posted. Severe case of whackeritus, with a case of Gallitus thrown in. As an EMT he cannot legally have half the stuff in that bag. Then again ,he could be from NJ where the first aid squads do pretty much whatever they please with no state oversight. He even has the poisonous snakebite kit from wally world stocked in there.
