Point taken. Although I have to wonder after your story here, if perhaps that is a little excessive.? Does the Pt have no responsibility? I have had several x-rays and the extent of the questioning was "Could you be pregnant?". I guess it is understood that I know how impregnation happens, and I am aware if it has happened to me anytime within he last...say.. 9 months or so. They don't take the time to explain the birds and the bees to me and I don't think they should. Perhaps a little human reproduction education is in order for the area you work in, if this is such a common problem. I suggest pamphlets. Or sky writing.

I'm not sure 26 is old enough....and one year? Hell, I was still finding new things out after 4, and at 4 1/2 I decided I didn't like what I saw anymore. And if you are going to have more than one, definitely find out if your guys can live together. (Is that what he meant?)

For some reason when I Googled "pig penis" a lot of realy dirty sites came up.....shrug....Anyhooo, this is the best substantiating evidence I sould find [web:bd235cb459]http://www2.dpi.qld.gov.au/pigs/4543.html[/web:bd235cb459]......If anyone cares.

Actually, I thought that under the circumstances ebemt described, that was a very appropriate way of broaching the subject with the pt. Granted, this is not necessarily the best strategy under all circumstances, but that's what this job is all about. Adaptability, and picking the most appropriate means to reach the same ends. And Rid, if I had a broken leg and you were asking me about my last period and sexual history, I'd be like   .

Firstly, if that is the case why are people so worried about genetic engineering causing cross over problems between species. A few pig traits in humans might be a good thing. BTW......Is that the male or the female pig? Pigs also have curly cocks...OK,I won't start. I hate to nit pick (OK i rather enjoy it) but that last statement isn't true...leading me to worry and wonder about the veracity of the rest of the post. Hmmmmmm.........Are polar bears really left handed? Do you think they are artistic?

Well, since North brought it up..... I have a story about dropping the pager too. I keep it on my belt just like we are supposed to. My partner and I were at the hospital having just finished a run. So I took the opportunity to go to the bathroom. I undo my belt, and then PLOP! .....There goes the pager right into the toilet. There I am, wondering if the pager is really that important....and what kind of story I can fabricate to explain its disappearance. Although I was in denial at the time, it was quite evident that the pager would never fit down the toilet hole, so flushing just wasn't an option. I decide to take the high road. I put on a glove.....reminding myself of all those studies that have been done saying that toilets are cleaner than sinks in most places.....and i scooped it out. I did my thing, and then went to track down my partner. I found him sitting in the charting area doing paper work. I casually walked up to him, and asked if he would mind carrying the pager for the rest of the night.....being the nice guy that he is, he says sure....I handed it too him, and obviously he notices that its all wet. The first thing out of his mouth is:" Did you drop this in the toilet?" ...While laughing my ass off I fessed up, and he took it very well. Apparently these pagers go for a swim more often then I care to know. We disassembled it and let it dry out and it worked fine afterwards. So I even avoided reporting this embarrassing little incident.

Technically we are not allowed to restrain a pt in by means. If we require physical assistance with a pt we are supposed to get police involved. The police must then decide weather they can restrain this person under the mental health act. Of course this leaves a lot of gray area for both us and the police. Hardly ideal. I am interested to know what is allowed in other areas.

But they do get some credit for starting it don't they?

Very well said 8 =D>. However, there is something to be said for learning life's lessons on your own. It's a lot harder to forget something when it happens to you. I know that I've done a thing or two that I wont ever do again. And I sure as hell wouldn't have listened to anyone else's advice beforehand. In retrospect it probably would have saved me alot of grief if I had listened to the advice offered me. But then again if I listened to all the advice I was ever given I would probably be figure skating in the olympics or some such horrible thing. LMAO....Seriously though....Basic2be, you asked for opinions so don't get mad when you get them. I don't think anyone here is dilluded enough to think that you will blindly follow all advice you are given, but I suggest that you consider it at least. Isn't that the whole point?

There is always room in my cabinet for a couple of carefully selected crotchety old guys North. You can be my Minister of the Interior of the fridge, responsible for restocking when the beer runs out. 8)

What challenges do you see paramedicine and EMS facing?
hammerpcp replied to MedicMal's topic in General EMS Discussion
I think a big challenge that we face in this area is that our management staff has no formal education. This is responsible for many of the problems EMS systems and paramedics working within these systems face. Currently supervisors and management are just paramedics who have received a promotion for some reason or because they kissed the right ass. They have no university education, and often no management experience or education at all. I think this is something that is already changing (although slowly) as the decision makers begin to realize that paramedic skills do not necessarily transfer to management skills. Hopefully as more education is required we will see less of the blundering that is so common in EMS today. For example penalizing employees rather than supporting them. Managements ultimate goal should be to create a better and more efficient working environment and therefore company. By spanking employees constantly rather then encouraging and directing improvement, the opposite is achieved. The opposite being a hostile and unproductive work environment with high turn over rates and poor employee satisfaction and moral. It has been shown in study after study that happier employees miss less work and are more productive when they are at work. I'm not sure if this answers your question but it is definitely something to consider if you plan to make EMS your career. At some point your body will give out, and it's good to have an alternate plan. A university education is a good choice. -
I didn't even know it existed until I read this post. Why would they hold something like this all the way in thunder bay, I wonder. :? Anyway, it sounds very interesting I am thinking about it.

Best excuses if you get caught sleeping on the job
hammerpcp replied to itku2er's topic in Funny Stuff
:sleepy1: I make it a habit to always bring a book (preferably a paramedic text or the like) :read2: with me when I sleep during the day (which is strictly verboten). :sleepy3: If nothing else, it gives any sups that happen to come by the base an opportunity to look the other way. :sleepy2: -
Theoretical practice (i.e. scenarios) has been shown to be an excellent predictor of how people will do in real life situations. So, it is great that you have instincts for the job. But you can't rest on that. Slow down, take a breath and think it through. I find even going over a call in your head or with preceptors or partners afterwards can help increase the amount of experience and knowledge you gain from every call.

Supersized ambulance hits the road in Vegas
hammerpcp replied to John's topic in Equiqment and Apparatus
I hear that Peel region here in Ontario already has a rig specifically designed for this. I believe the stretcher is extra wide and center mounted. I've never actually seen it though, and I don't know how much opportunity they have had to use it. What ever happened to the idea that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure? -
I will share with you my general advice for all relationship problems.....Dump him. This strategy seems to resolve any and all problems immediately and with out the headache or extra effort. And I mean come on....That's where its headed anyway.

Before you all jump on the band wagon there is some more information on my platform that I should share with you. 1. I am profoundly socialist, so if you don't like paying taxes stick with Harper. 2. I support abortion, the death penalty and euthanasia of anyone I don't like. 3. Legalize and regulate all street drugs, and tax them. 4. Health care should be run nationally and funded nationally. 5. Increase welfare allowances to an amount that can actually sustain life. 6. Regulate insurance companies. Place caps on premiums. 7. No laon sharks! that's right mastercard, visa, etc. 19% interest compounded monthly is not a fair trade. Oh, and Leons...28%? Give us a break. 8. Violent criminals beware...Three strike rule will be enacted..third strike, you are castrated. 9. Lizards for evreyone! 10. Beer purchases subsidized on all long weekends. I also have views on gun control, animal welfare, public transit, international relations, etc....I could go on but i'll spare you. So..now the question is...Are you still interested in joining the Hammered Party?
