  1. There is no doubt that the correct thing to do here would be turn the money in - both because it is the right thing to do, and because there is always a chance that someone is going to be looking for that cash, and you would not want to be the mouse for that kind of cat! I have had a similar incident - showed up at a bus MVC, and had one black tag with an entire suitcase of money popped open beside him - it would have been extremely easy to toss it into the bush and come back another time to retrieve it - the thought did occur to me , for about 2 seconds. Combine fear of reprisal with knowing what is really right, and the proper response will be there for most of us. That being said, I guess we don't truly know until the situation actually arises, right? Nice scenario, AK!
  2. It s strange how people who are put on this earth to ease the burdens of others often end out carrying those burdens themselves. Even her affliction was seen as an opportunity to serve others. This was a strong and compassionate woman. May she find rest and peace among the flowers in Heaven.
  3. The chip on my shoulder - yes, it is still there when I'm off duty!
  4. LOL - I think I have waited for that train - never knew who to blame!
  5. Ah Michael - I am a dilettante at this compared to you! I'm often in awe of your responses, knowing very well that I can't compete!
  6. I agree with him - EMS is a TERRIBLE waste of money. Back in the old days I remember we didn't even need funeral homes - somebody got sick, we just threw them outside the cave entrance, and the sabre-tooth cats would solve the problem for free! There were more benefits to this than you think - a full cat doesn't need to go hunting for a while, so the rest of us were safer hunter/gathering.There was more food to go around as well.

  8. A pessimist is never disappointed, but an optimist has a wonderful time waiting around for bad news!
  9. Cute - she obviously didn't ask to be any richer!
  10. lol -the precurser to skyboxes - they were called fieldboxes, and were leased by Druid Construction, Ltd
  11. According to my research, the article is accurate - the Celtics were a national team, and they played most of their home games in Stonehenge Stadium.
  12. Driving around with ANY unsecured weighty cargo in your vehicle is extremely dangerous. In a rollover or side collision, there a very good chance that an unsecured passenger will bounce around and smack into you and any other passengers in the vehicle. It is very simple - you don't want to wear a seatbelt? Get the hell out of my vehicle. You are welcome to kill yourself, but I'll be damned if you are going to take me or mine with you! The statistics are clear - seatbelts save lives. Period
  13. Trust Michael to find the easy way to do things! I hate guys who actually know what they are talking about!
  14. Princess - I tried to read it, but was dizzy and headachy before I got to the third one! Please take pity on all of us old myopic folks and edit it to change the font colour. Please?
  15. I have worked at elementary schools for 26 years, and I have NEVER heard of a school with a "no running" policy on the playground! I would refuse to work there or send my kids there. Kids need to run, and the playground is the place to do it. Hey - lets play baseball, but you have to hit the ball out onto the road to get anywhere, because you have to walk to first base! The liability issues in Canada are bad enough, but in the States, where lawsuits are more common than tracksuits, I would have a great deal of trouble doing anything at all in the public service. The stifling rules and regulations would make it nearly impossible to do the job the way I feel it needs to be done.
  16. Most common by a LONG shot - Geriatric S.O.B. (probably 70%) There are many seniors in the area. I am actually considered YOUNG in our community!
  17. Oh Brother! Yet another situation in which we are trying to sanitize our childrens' existence to the point that we don't let them be kids anymore! At this rate, in 20 years we will sending the children out to play one at a time, with a trained EMS person to watch them at all times, in hazmat suits, etc! It really irritates me that children are not allowed to make mistakes that might cause minor injuries - it is the consequences of these mistakes that teach them not to do it later in life when the consequences are usually MUCH more serious! One accident on any kind of playsite results in liability lawsuit; recalling or outlawing certain types of games and equipment, and the removal of an activity that we enjoyed, and more importantly, survived, when we were kids. Yes, the world is a slightly different place than it was then. Yes, there are hazards that did not even exist even then. But playing tag? Gimme a break!
  18. Humbug! - would make more sense to send the wife and kids to the nice restaurant and make hubby stay home and eat meatloaf! I have no time for abusive spouses of either gender. The fact that the kids were around makes it even worse.
  19. We had three victims under the age of 18 in a space of two weeks on quads - two were DOA and could not have even been organ donors with what was left. The idea of Quads being low speed is rapidly becoming a thing of the past - some of these things will go over 160 km/h. I'm not sure what can be done - it is easy to say that it is ignorance that is causing the accidents, but that does not do anything to prevent them. Yes trining would help, but I think there also needs to be some limits placed on who can operate a machine over a certain horsepower, as well as some major design changes that will improve safety. I may be dreaming when I say things like that, but I can say I am tired of picking up pieces or seeing quads causing "quads"
  20. Boaster! The problem with youth is that only the young have it, and they don't know what do to with it!
  21. There it is - many of us do it occasionally, because we are there and are the "experts". I have worked on a dog with a broken pelvis (2 hours out into the bush), a turtle with a cracked shell (Superglued it), etc. The thing that concerns me is that it might become required, especially if we have training for it. It is NOT what I signed up for, and certainly is not the reason EMS exists in its present form. Hell - can you imagine if we told doctors or RNs that they would be responsible for both the rider AND the horse he fell off of? LOL - I would not want to be part of that discussion! We love animals, and some of the things we know can be transferred, but we are NOT vets!
  22. EMS professionals for people and animals? Hmmm. It sounds like a nice, humanistic plan, but I can see potential for abuse. Once people begin to get used to the idea of an ambulance crew treating their precious Fido, chances are that they will begin calling 911 to get rapid treatment for said pet. Is it proper use of the system? Is it acceptable use of the training we have? and most importantly, is it really a priority in a system that is rife with long waiting times, arguably sagging standards, and low public esteem? What will be the response of a patient who is kept waiting for an emergency because the unit that would have been available is transporting Lassie? Too many questions, I know. If the market is there, someone will see the opportunity to create a VEMS, or Veterinarian Emergency Services. I quite frankly do not believe that the two are compatible, and I would not be comfortable with the dual role.
  23. lol - I SAW the translation, for what it was worth. I know that I don't need to wait til I'm 111 years old for the translation - just the e-mail to myself. I just didn't express it too clearly. Is there internet in Hell? I might still do it then.....
  24. 2067? I wish! I have a sinking feeling that if this can't be translated until then, it will be my grandchildren who will be trying to decode my "wisdom" - even my children will be around 80! Ah - it sucks to have the world built around youth (although it was kinda cool a few decades ago)
  25. Fourty below, or with 2 minutes left in a tie hockey game!
