I know that in Colorado the NREMT test is the only test. You then send the information into the state for the State Cert. ems36--- Please remember that on the internet all caps is yelling. grumpymedic4--- Improper punctuation or lack of punctuation makes it very hard to get the point across that you want. FYI, Dust is from Canada. Within the US, what is considered "extra" words varies from place to place, and it's no different for those in Canada.

You Are a Bright Star Soul Like a shining star, you have no trouble being the center of attention In fact, you often feel a bit hurt when all eyes aren't on you You need to be number one in everything, no matter how trivial And it's this ego that both hurts your confidence and helps you acheive You're dramatic and a powerhouse of pure energy You posess a divine quality or uniqueness that's hard to define A natural performer, it's likely you'll become famous in some circles. Just learn not to take everyone's reaction to you so personally! Souls you are most compatible with: Newborn Soul and Prophet Soul

You might be working for Rural EMS If......

 or when you're told that the address that you're looking for is on the "little dirt road just north of the railroad tracks that really doesn't have a name." -
I'd have to say that the system that I'm with is doing pretty good with the MCIs. We had one the weekend after Thanksgiving. We had a 25 car pileup as well as numberous other accidents along the interstate. We've only got a 2 bed ER and we delt with all of that and kept the town watched. Our farthest amb had to come 45 minutes to get the pt to the hospital and dispatch made sure that a LEO who was 1st Responder trained was in the area and one amb was within a few min of town. (Don't bring up ALS vs BLS here. Our highest cert is Intermediate.) We're just a rural county that deals with bus wrecks and the like on a semi-regular basis.

...when you get a call out and one of the emt's calls over the radio to be picked up at his mailbox when the ambulance is passing by because he's on his tractor plowing his field. ...when dispatch says that a certain person on the crew knows where the house is and KNOWS that the person will definatly be there. ...when your driving back from an interfaciity transfer and the driver occasionally pops on the lights and sirens to "make sure that that other drivers on the road are awake". ...when your ambulance crew is related to the LEOs responding to the scene. -
spelling and grammar in EMS run reports
rat115 replied to Just Plain Ruff's topic in General EMS Discussion
I have to admit that I drive some of the folks on my service up the wall when I point out the grammatical errors. I try to have someone go over mine for spelling errors because I know that spelling is one of my weeknesses. I'm waiting to see if our new computers have a better grammer and spell checker than our old computer in the shed. I think it's important to put our best "foot" forward in our reports. I know that errors are human, but that doesn't mean that consistent mistakes in writing the reports is a good thing. I, also, agree with idea of keeping a dictionary near. The rest of the folks that are on the crew here have no idea of what all is carried in my purse. -
Are personal faith and medical care compatiable?
rat115 replied to akflightmedic's topic in General EMS Discussion
:thumbright: I think you hit the nail on the head there. I believe that our main job is to do what is NECCESSARY for our pt to survive whatever sent us to help them. If someone believes that giving medications or blood is something that is going to go against thier beliefs, they should not be in this field or be at the training level that would require them to provide that kind of treatment. Our main job is to get our pt to medical treatment and do what we can to make sure that they are going to get there in the best condition possible. That may mean giving fluids, helping the person take medications, or just talking with the pt to calm them. AK, your question about people starting their response by stating that they're a christian or a particular dinomation is kind of interesting. This topic was spawned off of something that a person chose to due in the name of the faith that he practices. I agree that in the field it really doesn't matter what faith you practice; it matters how you practice your profession. For myself, I can say that I annoy many people that start a faith/religion conversation becuase of my past. I've been to pretty much every dinomination of christanity, spent 3 yrs going to a jewish synagog and got mixed up in the occult when I was a teen. So when I look at how I deal with things I have no trouble understanding that my beliefs are not everyone's and that includes someone else of the same dinomiation. :toothy7: I also agree about this topic bringing out those who don't normally post and it keeps those who do post on their toes too. -
Are personal faith and medical care compatiable?
rat115 replied to akflightmedic's topic in General EMS Discussion
As a christian who joined the Catholic church as an adult, I've always been taught that God wants us to help those in need. It doesn't matter who they are, what they've done, or how their beliefs differ from mine. I've been given the gift to help others and I'm NOT doing the work God wanted me to do if I refuse treatment to someone. There is no issue of discrimination in that. If someone feels, especially in this field, that they can not treat others without being discriminating about that person, be they atheist, muslim, christian or any other faith, they are in the WRONG field. That's my $0.02 on the subject. -
The service here gives one good uniform. These are required to be worn when we do transports into the city. The rest of the time they are strongly encouraged. The EMS director is also very honest that he's willing to supply more than one uniform for those who actually make sure that they hava them on when they're on call. I've now got 4 pairs of ems trousers and 2 good uniform shirts, 1 casual polo and one VERY oversized t-shirt (I got this one when I was still a student. It's a XL & I wear a M ) As for equipment, the director makes sure we have a pair of shears. Everything else for work on the ambulance is provided there. Anything that we want for our POV we buy, but we can refill anything that is used for pt care from the shed.

Should deaf people be allowed to be EMT'S or Medics
rat115 replied to emt3225's topic in General EMS Discussion
I would point out that there's a different in deaf and having a hearing loss or hearing imparement. I've lost about 10% of the hearing in my right ear because of working on a saw at a manufacturing facility that I used to work at. I listen with my left ear when I'm taking a BP or listening to lung sounds. Even for those who are considered having enough of a loss to need hearing aids there may be so little loss that the only way you can tell is if the person tells you. Myeldset son has bilat hearing aids, he only has problems with b-d and v-z when he's in noisey situations and has learned to tell the word from the content of the sentence sorrounding the work and he's only 10. I don't think it is a good idea for someone who's truely deaf to be out in the field because the need to hear is so important. It could make things more dangerous for the person and those around the person. -
I have to echo the part about cleaning and restocking the rig. I hate it when you need a NRB and have to reach into the jump kit inside the rig because someone didn't replace the ones they used. I'm very serious about looking professional. I'm a small female and look younger than my age, so if I don't look professional, I'd have people think that I'm just messing around. I'm really anal about BS over the radio. We have a gal that runs on our service that is often heard giggling over the radio. angry9: I understand that there are times that you've got to laugh, but this one is excessive. Ok, I'll shut up now and get off the soapbox. :-#

Ok, under my name I got "Honey Hole". With my maiden name, "Screw's Choice". And with my screen name, "Man Hole". Oh, man, I guess I'm in trouble.

Hey, I get to join you in the immortality. :lol:/

 Darn those must have gotten lost in the last move. The person below me really needs a choclate fix.

Nope, just to my EMS director. The person below me likes to use the pa on the ambulance to tell pedestrians to get out of their way when out of thier normal service area (if the service phone # is not on the outside)

Let's see... The county is 70 miles east to west and about 15 miles north to south. We have 5 sheds all with on call crews. The shed I run out of covers an area about 20 miles wide with 2 ambulances (one of which is used for Denver/CO Springs transfers). There are a total of 7 ambulance that run in the county. We're working on getting one more so that we have two here when there is a transfer in case of a MVC.
-
In this county, it depends on which side of the county you're on. We have 5 different amb sheds. Out of the shed I work out of, you don't even have time to put in an IV if you're in town. Next one out has about a 15 min drive. Then, 25 min. The third out from here gets to choose if they come here with the pt or go the other direction to the next county over. Last one has about 40 min into the next county or 45 min if the pt chooses to come here.
