If you've managed a C average through school you will do fine if you don't over think it. Answer every question as if you were a basic first, and then use medic info only if absolutly necessary. I thought the test was idiotic, confusing format, almost no serious knowledge necessary. If I went into the field with only the info needed to pass the test 80% of the acutely critical pts I've seen would have died....Honest to God. Don't freak out, think like a basic and not a medic, and you will breeze through it...You've got the brains, I've seen you use em here...Worry about getting good grades in school...forget the NR. Actually Don, you're a great example of this. I've asked, pleaded, scolded, yet nothing can cause you to produce a post that you wouldn't confuse as coming from an angry 14 year old. I use you as an example simply because if we can put up with your non thought-out posts month after month, then others can put up with some misbehaving kids for a few hours. This is a public forum, as that was a public plane, we don't simply kick people off because they act like children. You should be thankful for that. I'm going to guess that we're not dealing with anaphylaxis or aspiration here, but laryngospasm triggered by the cinnamon. I don’t know, but I’m going to guess that this is one time that water might be useful before other treatments…Prep a neb while she gargles with clear water, allowing her to swallow if she’s able. Once the irritant is irrigated away, then perhaps you can relax the airway with some alubuterol. Just guessing, but if I was there now, I’m thinking that’s what I’d try… And what the hell is up with sniping him for posting beyond his training? I don’t know if he’s an ass elsewhere, but this was a great question and scenario. I can’t remember if I’ve ever posted a scenario that I knew all the answers too…. Echo, though I respect most that have posted in this thread, I'm going to suggest that you are the only one here that is adhering to one of the concepts that we preach day in and day out, and I have a ton of respect for that... That concept of course would be that you can't serve two masters. For some reason you can't be fire and EMS but you can be a missionary and EMS, even though the education needed to preach makes the education to be a fireman seem irrelevant? Go preach man...Do it hard, and good, and make sure that you focus on it the same way you would medicine...It's simply EMS for the soul.... Good luck to you...come back and visit... Dwayne

As often happens, I'm being given way more than my share of credit here. I worked hard, studied hard, and busted my hump...sure. But NOBODY gets over here on their own... Ak held my hand the whole way. Sent an amazing recommendation letter, and then walked me through the entire process, as well as speaking to those that he knows that are where I am now on my behalf. This is more about ak than it is about me, and that's the truth. On that subject, there is something else I'd like to say....ak told me about this, what it would be like, how to prepare. At one point Barbara said, "Have you given any thought to the fact that we're changing our life on the word of someone you don't really know that well?" And I told her, "Yeah, that worries me a bit, but there's something about him that makes you trust what he says." And it was a good bet. He told me things, advised me on things, warned me about things...some of them big, and some of them very small, yet to the smallest thing, his word was good. If he told me today that the sky is green....I wouldn't waste my time checking, I would just know that it's true. It's so seldom that you find anyone, in a lifetime, that says what they mean, and takes other's lives seriously enough to make the kind of committment he made to get me settled here...I won't soon forget that. Anyway, I'm obviously rambling, but I wanted to make this point. He often makes fun of himself, or his ability to be committed or serious or kind.
