That's mostly it. I'm no expert in most things EMS, but as I read through his blog, I was unable to find any stories that appeared to violate HIPAA, or to be offensive in any way to an individual. I'm getting smarter medic-wise. But what I don't have access to yet is the politics that might cause these kinds of issues if none actually exist. I was curious if I was missing things, or if those surrounding the issue were getting their panties in a bunch for reasons unrelated to the content of the stories. I'm going with: Thanks Dust...Take good care of yourself!! (How is R&R?) Dwayne

Hey all, If you haven't checked out fiznat's blog, you are truly missing out. (I don't know him, we're not buddies, it's just really, really, good) He's catching some heat lately for his entries...I'd be curious what some of you with more experience think about his issues... http://babymedic.blogspot.com/ He explaines them in the entry titled "a problem." It's hard to imagine that his problems are justified...Way smart kid, very careful writing...Anyway, I'd be curious to know what you think. Again, no reason for posting this other than what's stated above. Fiznat didn't ask it, in fact, may not appreciate it...But I guess that's blogging... Have a great day all! Dwayne

Hey Chick, I'm not sure if it helps, but we can push the drugs withing our scope of practice, plus we have a list of...maybe...100 other drugs we can push under direct supervision. If one of the drugs outside out scope is pushed then we have to make a drug card, as well as a written explanation as to the physiological effects of the drug on this condition, and turn it in with our PCR. It's my understanding that this rule is the same for medics or intermediates (same expanded list) at our school. If we're caught pushing drugs not on the list, or administering those without supervision...We're history...No second chances for those wanting to play doctor...They were pretty clear on this... It's been my experience that the kindest nurses are the ones most likely to ask you to do something you shouldn't...Just in the spirit of wanting you to be involved in, and learn, as much as possible...Pretty cool...but I find this is where I'm the most careful. Good luck! Dwayne

There is not a snowball's chance in hell this kid is going to listen to anyone here...but this quote made the whole thread worth while anyway! tskstorm, get your badge. Just know that while it make make you feel special, (No one is really buying the "I can't get my paperwork signed without it crap) everyone that matters in EMS will be laughing at you, either to your face, or behind your back. If respect as a professional is not on your short list of things to accomplish in these few short years we call life...well, then I guess you might really need a badge. Good luck to you... Dwayne

DwayneEMTP replied to vcfd35s's topic in General EMS Discussion
vcfd35s, No harm done! I'm happy you've stayed and become a contributining member of our community!! Michael can sometimes be hard to understand, but it's a rare thing when anyone will snipe at you just for fun... How did things work out with the judge? -

DwayneEMTP replied to vcfd35s's topic in General EMS Discussion
Say Sparky, This is a public forum..In no way is this YOUR thread. You came here asking for advice, Michael didn't come looking for you. He happens to be a well respected member of this forum. If you didn't see the humor in his post then perhaps you don't belong on MY board...huh? Take a chill pill, don't get all uppitty just because a few folks treated you kindly. By the way, I hope it works out for you.... Dwayne -
Possibly the most valuable teaching post I've seen in months...Man...thanks for doing this AZCEP! First rate....

Dang it...I wish I would have said that. Pretty great post Laura... Dwayne -
Like emt-b_wa is saying, if it doesn't fit, don't use it. I'm only a student, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but the only time I use AaO is on a patient that is completely alert and oriented. Otherwise the abbreviations is too vague to be of a lot of use. For example in class we discussed for half an hour or so whether it's a/ox3 or a/ox4. I was taught x4 (person, place, time, event) but our instructors (and I believe my medic book, though I can't find it right now (Essents of Paramedic care 2nd)) uses a/ox3. So we've been instructed to use a/ox3 with a qualifier (pt a/ox3, - loc, clear memory of event). People smart then I am probably use a/ox2, etc, but I'm finding that if they fall short of 3 (4) there is more mentation info needed on the PCR than will be covered by this abbreviation. Those are just my thoughts...I'm betting our betters will be able to give you some better info... Good question! Dwayne

Once again...in a blazing display of Canadian inellectual superiority you quote and ADVERTISEMENT to back up your argument..Perhaps I should prove the superiority of U.S. EMS by quoting AMR, or take a snippet from one of the Fire pages? If this is what Canadian medics call facts (I know most wouldn't)...I'll stick with American healthcare... Man, give it a rest...every time you attempt to hose everyone down with your Canadian brilliance, by being insulting, you look silly...Is there any argument that you don't choose simply because it's easy? I think you're mistaken...I believe it's Blazing Saddles, though they are close... Dwayne

You know, I haven't seen....?....around in a while...I heard
DwayneEMTP replied to DwayneEMTP's topic in Funny Stuff
I had a feeling Vegas might have been involved. 'I heard' becksdad's infection is clearing nicely, but the doctor is still a little worried. He said he hadn't seen occular thrush before... But his spirits are good...I predict he'll back back to the City in no time! Dwayne -

Ah...see, I knew I didn't get the whole story....You're too funny... -
Hey chbare! Pretty cool you're taking the time do do a scenario! 8 year old brother, regardless of first language almost certainly speaks english..can/will he shed any light on this? List of meds parents may be taking. Any obvious OTC/home toxin (under the sink)/alcohol containers? Other than upset, other family members acting normally? Dwayne

Yeah, this is really dorky, but maybe fun. I sometimes wonder what is going on with members I look for but haven't seen posting in a while...so I thought it might be funny to just decide where they have been! Make up a story...the dorkier and more outlandish the better...or not... You know, I haven't seen becksdad in a while...I heard he was at a porn convention feeling up the 400lb stipper 'Lovin' Spoonful' when her (his?, hard to tell) thong finally snapped under the pressure, striking becksdad in the eye. There was no trauma, but he got a nasty infection (Minimum of gloves and glasses should have been used). He is now at home resting comfortably. He had the thong framed as a trophy... Anyone heard anything different?

tskstorm, the reason you're being taken to task for not searching is that, though you claim to have read them, you're regurgitating all the same old arguments... When you use an old argument (many of them), call them new, and then present them with little punctuation, no capitalization, and poor spelling, you shouldn't be surprised when the wanker patrol comes screaming up to your (virtual) house... Come on man...you want a badge for the same reason you want lights on your POV...It's understandable...but it's dorky...let it go... Just a few words meant a constructive criticism... Have a good day! Dwayne

Heart problems kill many firefighters while on duty
DwayneEMTP replied to Just Plain Ruff's topic in General EMS Discussion
Actually it does...Bread and pasta are cheap, cheap, cheap...Aged cheese and meat and veggies...not as much. But it's a small price to pay! Don't talk about it anymore Jeff...Don't think about it anymore...do it!! I lost 80 lbs on the controlled carbs diet (the politically correct term now), and an article publishe in the NEJM claims it is as healthy as the promoters claim! (my paraphrase, not a direct quote of course) Though I do suggest you read the Atkins book first if you haven't done so... Good luck buddy... Dwayne -
What Would A Paid Employeer Like To See On EMT Resume?
DwayneEMTP replied to Pro_EMT's topic in General EMS Discussion
I think what people are asking is "what does this mean? How do you define save? Are you claiming you were involved in each of them? If not, how does it reflect on you personally? If you listed twelve "saves" that you were involved with then your potential employer will know that you are either Jesus, a liar, or have no idea what most medical professionals consider a save. If you weren't involve they will know you're ignorant as to what would be considered mature information to put on a resume and/or a wanker....neither are flattering things to imply about yourself at an interview... Some folks here are attempting to educate you and help you avoid looking foolish in the professional arena...If you're anything like me...you should listen to them. Dwayne NOTE: If you turn out, in fact, to be Jesus, then I apologize for what I said above...(Also, was I somehow unclear when we chatted about my exam last Thursday? ) -
From Texas...man...I feel for you...it's hard to be from Texas and turn out right... Good luck to you though!! Dwayne

Martha Stewart Vs. Real Women: MARTHA STEWART If you accidentally over-salt a dish while it's still cooking, drop in a peeled potato and it will absorb the excess salt for an instant "fix-me-up. REAL WOMEN If you over-salt a dish while you are cooking, that's too damn bad. Please recite with me, The Real Women's motto: "I made it and you will eat it and I don't care how bad it tastes." ----------------------------------------------------------------- MARTHA STEWART Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away. REAL WOMEN Take a lime, mix it with tequila, etc., chill and drink. You might still have the headache, but who cares? ----------------------------------------------------------------- MARTHA STEWART Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice cream drips. REAL WOMEN Just suck the ice cream out of the bottom of the cone, for Pete's sake. You are probably lying on the couch, with your feet up, eating it anyway. ----------------------------------------------------------------- MARTHA STEWART To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes. REAL WOMEN Buy Hungry Jack mashed potato mix and keep it in the pantry for up to a year. ----------------------------------------------------------------- MARTHA STEWART When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit of the dry cake mix instead and there won't be any white mess on the outside of the cake. REAL WOMEN Go to the bakery. They'll even decorate it for you. ----------------------------------------------------------------- MARTHA STEWART Brush some beaten egg white over pie crust before baking to yield a beautiful glossy finish. REAL WOMEN The Mrs. Smith frozen pie directions do not include brushing egg whites over the crust, so I just don't do it. ----------------------------------------------------------------- MARTHA STEWART If you have a problem opening jars, try using latex dishwashing gloves. They give a non slip grip that makes opening jars easy. REAL WOMEN Go ask the very cute neighbor to do it. ----------------------------------------------------------------- And finally the most important tip - MARTHA STEWART Don't throw out all that leftover wine. Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces. REAL WOMEN Leftover wine??

Hey all! I'm in my second month of med school and am having a hard time finding study partners. I'm afraid my class isn't exactly hard core scholastically...and there aren't really any other students in class that are freakish about their grades... I'm dying for a study partner!!! So far I've got about a 95% in class...but it's everything I can do to keep up and maintain my clinicals...I'm not whining, it's just that I know that my study time is greatly concentrated when I study with someone else. You know, have to reason out questions that I didn't think of myself... The one other person in class that was really serious about grades is military and they changed his schedule and made him quit....We studied on MSN and it worked great! Anyway, I'm not sure how it will work...I just know that if you are serious about getting material down pat...everything to the cellular level...that we can figure something out!!! Even if you just want to run through meds and med scenarios...that would be great!!! Judging from their posts, I know there are some pretty dang smart medic students here...I'm not pretending to be one of them....but if you're interested I'll do my best to hold up my end and make it challenging for you! Anyway...Let me know if you're interested...OK? Thanks all...have a great day!! Dwayne

Advice on what to put in a Disaster First Aid Kit
DwayneEMTP replied to IslandGuy's topic in Equiqment and Apparatus
Man...you know, growing up in the Arizona and Nevada deserts I've always had pretty comprehansive survival stuff (from min. 5 gals of water to blankets etc, for traveling) but have never thought about morale items. It seems like they could make a big difference. Is there a whole philosophy behind these types of items somedic? You know what I mean? (good, cause I'm not sure..like candy for the kids...that kind of thing?) Pretty cool...I'll have to give this some thought, but if there is already established thinking I'd just as soon not reinvent the wheel...thanks. (PS. Should the world ever be dependent on me to reinvent the wheel, I suggest you all think about upping your Nike stock....) Dwayne
