  1. Good God, women, Canadians, Kiwis, Germans, Aussies...the City is going to hell in a handbasket... When we said, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses....the wretched refuse of your teeming shore..." we didn't expect you to take us seriously! But have no fear! There is enough backbone and gumption in the American Male that I'm confident that we can fix you all...give enough time... Dwayne
  2. I thought fire didn't respond on EMS calls in Canada? Dwayne
  3. Once had a lady call because she was out of vicodin and her husband wouldn't take her to get a refill. Had to take her despite explaining the situation to her. She felt it was a medical emergency, crawled into the back and away we went. The ER Doc was completely tearing her ass up when we left. Easily the most verbally violent scene I'd ever seen in the healthcare arena. About two hours later I heard another unit dispatched to her address..."Pt complaining of back pain." We, our service, hauled her to all of the local hospitals several times that day. What I didn't think to ask, until it was too late, was how the hell she was able to get a ride home from all of the hospitals, but not to the pharmacy? Dwayne
  4. See...would have been funnier still if I'd been as smart as you guys and taken credit for it instead... jmnttylfsv, you're welcome. It's good to have you here.. Dwayne
  5. Holy shit...The friggin' City will be speaking French before long if this friggin' Canadian trend continues... Pitiful... Dwayne
  6. Man, it's filling up fast! I would love to come but won't know for a few days yet if I return to work before then or not... I'll keep my fingers crossed. How many from the City are going this year? Dwayne
  7. Welcome Yarbo, good to have you man... Dwayne
  8. You know...I just went in to change my signature,(Sorry Mobes) and noticed the people that have visited my profile. It knocked me off of my chocks. I'm not fit to carry the bags of most of those folks (Not saying who, in case I have to call you a douche later) What a priveledge it is to share this time with you all...Just sayin'...

Get my bag, Spleen, I might break a nail.

  9. Systemet....Until the volly part, as I tend to believe that most volunteers are there for the lights and pager more so than community spirit...I don't see how it could have been said any better... Thanks for posting that.. Dwayne
  10. Man, not my experience often enough to get anywhere near a stereotype. I once came on scene, not my call, just came as backup when I heard the crew call in that CPR was in progress, to see a fireman doing CPR one handed, and not good at that...while yacking with another....Making sure that all of the badge bunnies saw that he did this so well, and so often, that he could practically call it in over the phone. Pissed me off right away, this whole, 'hero pose', but before I could say anything the medic on the call said, 'I"m sorry, are you tired? Would you like a nap? Why don't I get someone to replace you until you're rested enough to do actual CPR.' and then asked for him to be replaced by the next person, that, being less heroic in nature found that they needed two hands to do compressions properly. Yeah, he wasn't a happy camper. And I'm confident he spent the rest of the night explaining to his buddies how the stupid 'Paragod' got in the way of him saving lives. ("Probably could have saved 'em if he'd just let me do it my way....") I'm not a huge fan of calling people out on scene..but in this case it was warranted, in my opinion, not to mention an excellent learning opportunity for the volunteers on scene. Dwayne
  11. Damn it. Posted from my work computer without auto spell check. Though it does kind of make my point... :-) Dwayne
  12. I did miss it! I'm a little disappointed in myself... :-) Seems that we don't get many new chicks here, and as it didn't say, (or I missed it then too) I was playing the odds. I should have been suspicious though when eveything was spelled correctly.. Dwayne
  13. The down side that I see to this is that a huge percentage of the time they won't be needed for anything. It's nice to think of making them get up off of their asses and work, but the very real downside to that is that they are now going to take those 'nothing' numbers and use them to prove to their communities that they are so very vital. "Look at all of the times we had to respond this year. EMS does the best they can, but they are really impotent without us." We can put them to work, but it's really just giving smokes to your emphazema patient. In the end it's likely that you're helping them to remain sick, and get sicker, but at least they're quiet. Dwayne
  14. Revived a valuable, but forgotten thread? Researched so as to have some more, intelligent questions? Then chose not to ruin the thread with the researched answers? Holy shit...that made my nipples hard. Your attitude shows what the City looks like when it's working right and firing on all cylinders. +10 Brother... Dwayne
  15. EFF4, you had me all wrapped up in that story up to the point where you said that you were following in his footsteps... A dad that lets his baby become a paramedic?? Unthinkable! But he sounds like a good guy none the less... Dwayne
  16. Hey, Welcome!
  17. Hey Brother, welcome to the City. I like your attitude a lot. Jump in and participate, OK? There is very little to be learned here by watching...the more nervous it makes you to add to a thread, arguably, the more value it will likely have for you. I look forward to your thoughts.. Dwayne
  18. Hey man, welcome to the City! Awesome first post. Dwayne
  19. Why the hell is everyone trying to speak Kiwi? It's not like you're ever going to meet one... Aren't there like, what, 40 people on the whole friggin' island? I mean, c'mon..It's pretty much where Aussies ended up when they were too drunk to row back home... (Now, should any take offense to that I swear to be shocked, appalled, and taken completely by surprise... :-) ) Dwayne
  20. Flaming, please read the rules of the site... "Choose a subject that describes your topic. When starting a new topic, it is important that you choose a subject title that accurately reflects the content of the thread. Do not make people guess what your topic is. Threads posted with teaser titles like, "Guess what!," "I need help!," "What do you think?," "What would you do?," "What should be done?" or simply "Question!" will be deleted with extreme prejudice." So far I've shown you the respect of renaming them for you instead of deleting them. But...you know. Do it yourself... Dwayne
  21. What level will you be testing at Brother...it makes a difference. Dwayne
  22. Your jaw is on the floor? Not sure you want you mouth open so wide in this crowd...just sayin'.. :-) But I know what you're thinking Ash.."What are the odds that someone with such an awesome concept would also have the skills to carve pumpkins?!?" I'm with ya...I hear what you're sayin'... Dwayne
  23. You may think that I'm sniping, but I'm truly not...at least not only... But the hero complex often seems to be issues with turnout gear. And you know what? From a behavioral science point of view I've kind of come to forgive that. If every time I looked at a newspaper, or turned on the television I saw images and actions of paramedics doing bullshit heroic stuff. If every time there was a fender bender there was some one from the President on down congratulating me for my heroism..how long would it be before I'd watch one of those shows and think? "Holy shit! I've not turned a wheel in weeks, I'm over weight, out of shape, can't take a B/P...but you know what? I fuckin' rock!! The president just said so for the 12th time this week! I love being a hero....." Doesn't mean that I will ever accept it, but when you consider the mentality of many firemen (Just a note to restate the fact that some of my most inspirtational education as a student medic came from the fire services in the Springs. And I've known some tried and true dedicated smoke eaters that I am in awe of. But the other 99% just piss me off.) and the reasons that their 'dream' is to be a fireman, how much of this shit can they be bombarded with without it beginning to warp their psyche. How many times can you hear 'thank you' from the Denny's waitress before you begin to believe that you deserve it, even if you don't? As has been stated before. I've heard 'thank you' a gazillion times. Though I've never been surprised when it didn't happen, of course I'm grateful when it does. Well, one time when it just makes me crazy? When the drunk is saying over and over, "Thank you! Oh God, thank you...God loves you, no one understands me...Thank you.." Shut the F' up... Did I get anywhere near answering the question? Dwayne Edited for a small format change. Not significant changes made.
  24. I think that you were labeled a troll in that thread because you kept refusing to directly address the arguments put out to counter yours and instead kept repeating the same things over and over. The same happened to Flaming in his thread, and others if I remember correctly. The City doesn't benefit from Trolls. Their arguments are not productive, and then the entire thread often degrades into the lowest common denominator that we see here. You didn't get labeled a troll because you had a contrary idea, you were labeled that way because you refused to accept, or even discuss the idea of risk/benefit in EMS. And then you got caught lying about how your incorrect age came to be posted. I think, that in that thread, the label fit you. But that's not the be all, end all. At least not if you're able to say, "Man, I wish I would have done that differently." I've been labeled a troll in the past, and rightfully so. There were a few times when I just simply couldn't see any possible right answer but my own ( and several times that I posted shit faced drunk that were real treats) and was terribly disappointed that everyone else, that I had once respected, could be so completely ignorant. But the label, as you and I have proved, isn't terminal. We get off into the ditch and our friends here drag us back out again...over and over if necessary if they can see that you're at least holding out your hand for them to grab. Staying to play, and raising up your hand when necessary....definitely not troll behavior. I don't know of a single regular poster here that doesn't get hard nipples over being challenged and disagreed with in a logical, adult manner. That is much of what most of us are here for. That is not what trolls bring to the table. If all of the trolls disappeared tomorrow the City would lose nothing. As it's lost nothing with Crotchity being gone. On his good days he could have a decent perspective, but he had maybe 5% good days...and they in no way made up for his ignorant, bigoted shit stirring. Would I ban you and flaming as trolls? No, of course not. I was really disappointed in your unwillingness to even attempt to see an alternate point of view in that thread, but I didn't believe that you were simply there to disrupt the thread. Would I ban Flaming (If I had the power, which I don't, just so's everyone is clear.)? It's a close thing...often I believe that his only reason for posting in a thread is that he believes that it will cause issues, and if he argues like a child then he gets all of the attention that he is seeking, validates his, "You just hate me 'cause I'm gay" mantra. Definitely troll behavior, yet at times I get the feeling that he might actually turn a corner some day and try and be productive. When you've got everyone in a thread, many of them long time, respected members saying, "You know, I think you're off in the ditch on this." yet you spend days saying, "I guess you're all just idiots and hypocrites beings you won't admit that I'm right." then you have to take a look and see what's going on. I've even forgiven you for claiming to hate me in your screen name... Just sayin'... Dwayne Edit. For example, I think that this was an awesome, sincere, productive question.
