Hey Chik, welcome to the City! The path to medic is pretty much the same as it was for CNA, and maybe medical assistant, though I have no idea what becoming one involves. College. Where you go from here depends a little bit on where 'here' is. Do you have much college? I, and most here would recommend that if you want to be a serious medic that you find an AAS program. I'm thinking that TX has a few. It's possible that you already have many of the prerequ's if you had any biology, anatomy and physiology before. Are you truly sure that you want to run backwards from nursing and go into paramedicine? I love being a medic, but I have to travel all over the friggin' world to make the money that a nurse makes. Don't get me wrong, I love it. But if I had it to do again I'd have gotten my RN, made the same money, and more likely, and be home with my family every night. It's good to have you here! Stay and participate. Jump in, share the knowledge that you have and ask about that that interests you. It just occurs to me that this might be be a good place to define cheating? That popped into my head, not sure why.... How do you define cheating in this context hatelittlepeepees? What line is acceptable before you consider that you've been cheated on? Sexting? Phone sex? kissing? Petting? Oral? Intercourse? Where is your line...it's possible that, depending on that definition, more of us may have cheated than any of us realize... :-) Of course this question is open to all, and should anyone feel that it's a hijack instead of a continuation I'm certainly happy to have it ignored. Without new, intelligent, committed EMTs/Medics this site is nothing but a bunch of old fat guys and gals sitting around telling bullshit stories and losing track of what's coming down the road. It's good to have you here, though I have to tell you I'm a little shocked by your attitude. It's terribly uncommon that we have a brand new EMT that wants to buy and do everything that doesn't either tell everyone to fuck off when they suggest they go slow, or just disappear outright. You're a bit of an anomaly. Thanks for being brave enough to participate, not just in the forums, but to the responses that you've been given. Now, if you want to be a rockstar EMT....keep coming back. Be even braver still and get involved in the moral/ethical/medical discussions. I can come to the festival, get completely blitzed out of my brain, go to the medical tent where you'll run some fluids, monitor me, let me lay down and rest until I feel better, and then I can simply walk out of the tent back into the beer area?? Good God....If there is a heaven? It must be something almost exactly like that...only everyone would be naked. (They weren't naked, were they? People here only have the way that you present yourself in print to get a flavor for who you are. Grammar, spelling, punctuation and capitalization are important. Not busting your balls/ovaries, just trying to help you get started off on the right foot. Many of us have been conned by the texting movement to believe that presenting yourself in that way professionally is ok, but it's really not. It's good to have you! When you speak of a savant, there are really many things that you could be describing. Most often I think people associate savant, which is actually a description of any very learned person unless qualified, such as an autistic savant, or what in the past was described as an 'idiot savant.' I think your question is really interesting and I'd love to explore it, but we're going to need to flesh it out a little bit more. If this child was truly a savant, I'm curious how they also arrived at the bipolar diagnosis, as well, how they came to believe that he was suicidal? I'm not trying to bust your chops, so please don't run away, as I'd really like to learn from this. How old was the patient? What type of environment was he in when you ran on him? Family/group home/homeless/etc. Where did you get the information concerning his previous diagnosis? What made you believe that he was suicidal? Had he physically taken any steps to harm himself? What was his physical condition in general? How many words per sentence would you say he used? While in your care, how many words total would you guess that he used. There is no set way in general, but there are clues to what might be best and certainly best ways to handle them when things go south. Thanks again for bringing this question to the table. There are a ton of smart folks here and I think there is much to be learned from the discussion. Dwayne

I've not used that stuff, but I once ended up in that exact same condition after reading one of Crotchity's post about his pure soul and love of the Black community....Probably isn't related to this incident..but..does she get on EMTCity? I've not treated any of these patients, but I do hear the crew talking about it sometimes. It seems, or seemed at least, to be all the rage. Hmmmm....maybe I got it confused with something else. What is the stuff that is delivered via what looks like a green whistle? Or a hokey, home made pot pipe. You pour the solution into a cotton wad and the patient breaths through it. It's good for about a half hour until it is fully inhaled/evaperated, and you just simply toss it out. No tanks, no hoses, just a little box such as you'd expect D50 to come in and a little plastic whistle... Maybe ak/chbare can help me out here... Dwayne Edit. Found a pic in my old Afg files.

You say that you may have been cheated on an not know it, I'm guessing you probably haven't... Though this guys is pretty friggin' smart at his hook ups, there is a certain kind of persona that is so shallow so as to need to screw a bunch of different women yet doesn't have the balls to remove himself from his marriage, and I'm willing to bet that you can see that kind of bullshit a mile away. When you look at/talk to this guy, can you not sense it in him? That he's a child, a coward, and likely a really tiny dick? I'm guessing you can. I've come to the point in my relationship, after 25 years, that I can absolutely see how good people can stray. But straying is a one time thing, by my definition. When you need multiple women, all the time, in all of these places, it's not a sex issue. It's a penis validation issue...he needs to constantly prove that he's a man... In my mind that's the paradox, if you have to prove that you're a man, then you're not. I'm not going to say that I can't offer my cheating tips because I'm above cheating, as I know that there are many, many men much better and stronger and morally sound than myself that have done so. I will only say that I've been lucky enough up to this point because I'm blessed to be married to a woman that is tough to compete with. I'm not better than other men...just luckier. Dwayne

We used etonox in Afg...it was the friggin bomb! Easy set up, simple patient managed delivery. The only down side that I personally saw was that the filters didn't always work perfectly so when we had multiple patients using it in our hot, non ventilated plywood ambulances we'd get pretty stoned as well. Where I worked there I think that they were thinking of taking it away though. If I remember correctly the problem was that everyone from the medics to finally delivery...wherever...wanted to use it for a quick fix and people were ending up well above safe dosages over time and getting kidney issues. I'm not sure why, in an environment where that's unlikely, that everyone doesn't carry it... Dwayne
