  1. It's an abbreviation for UltraSound, a common exam for this type of issue. Dwayne
  2. Yeah...I have had thoughts of retaking Bio202 and Pathophys now that I have a several thousand patients to use for context.. And auditing medic classes would be fun if for no other reason than to see what I'd looked like before I'd had a few big successes and failures under my belt to add perspective... :-) Dwayne
  3. No need to apologize. Actually this post has been haunting me because I couldn't remember exactly why. In general it was clear, but I couldn't have explained it to you molecule by molecule, and it's really not that difficult of a concept. So that got me to thinking..."What else have I forgotten now that I"m several years post A&P?" Holy shit..the list turned out to be legendary!! I was shocked not by how much I'd forgotten, but by how little I'd remember. Remote medicine, in my current context is cool...I love to be a long way from help, but the skill/knowledge atrophy is horrendous! The city is at least as valuable for teaching me where I'm lacking as it is for allowing me to exercise what I know. Dwayne
  4. I get that brother, and am grateful for it. But to allow such behavior implies that I am as good as I need to be, as smart, and as strong, and no longer need my friends here to help me out when I go off into the ditch. Nothing could be further from the truth. I have many strong opinions that I am willing, in fact enjoy defending concerning EMS, but they are often unproved and as often as not wrong. I'm truly grateful for your respect, but please don't respect me so much that you're willing to watch me be worse tomorrow than I was today instead of better. I'm grateful that you're here, and thanks for responding to me post. Yeah man, I get this completely. Especially when you're beginning, studying so hard, you want to believe that you're doing it so that you can become part of something admirable, something to be proud of....it's hard on that image when you watch shitheads like this run rampant, right? But it's good too...because in my short EMS career I've not been part of a service that was full of people that I respected. Each had at least one, and sometimes many medics/basics that I respect, and each had some loser shithead that should have been removed from the field..(in my opinion) and it showed me that I had to be MY kind of medic. I chose those that I respected and tried to be in their company when I could, to learn from them and be challenged by them, and just let the rest run around bumping into walls... You are off to a great start attitude wise! But you truly, truly, truly must work on your spelling and grammar. It is not only so folks here will take your more seriously, as I believe you deserve, but that kind of demand for improvement and attention to detail will color EVERY SINGLE THING you do in EMS. It's not just practicing writing, it's practicing improving, and and that is a habit you want to start developing now..so future students don't come here posting asking why they have to be exposed to you! Have a great day man. Thanks for participating...it's good to have you. Dwayne
  5. "aight....fair enough...
  6. Yeah, and don't take people serious that talk to you like this. I'm sorry about this post..I was in a major hardcore bad mood when I wrote this and don't really even remember sitting down and writing it. You didn't deserve it. I do wish for you to present yourself in a more professional manner, and with more self respect but it was hypocritical to present that point in such an unprofessional disrespectful way. Next time I hang my ass out like that..don't be bashful...kick the friggin' thing!! Why is this loser around students? What role is he playing and who else is there in a professional capacity while this is going on? Whoever that is needs to be burned down as well. See what I"m saying? God bless the age of cell phones and cell phone cameras. Record this chucklehead doing his thing and play it for anyone that wants to listen and has the power to change it. Good luck Man... Dwayne
  7. There is one type of provider that makes EMS look much worse than the shithead that you're talking about...It's those that want to enter this profession yet can't be bothered to write above the 4th grade level. Should you be pissed at this guy? Yes you should, and if you have a hair on your ass you'll do something about it. But you should also start in your own house. I don't care if you're ranting or raving or creating a PCR...spell, then spell check, then re read to make sure you're grammar is acceptable. Don't post shit that makes you look like an ignorant child in a thread that you've started to complain about people making EMS look bad..OK? Dwayne
  8. No pity here. You seem smart, and funny, and kind...I have every confidence that you will someday find a strong, stable man to take care of you... Nod Dust..Hopefully you know I wasn't really curious if an arrest was hypoglycemic but as to the criteria that the poster may have used to determine that, 'cause I'm confident that it wasn't anchored in A&P. Dwayne Also, MetalMedic, though I'm confident that you would see the humor in my comment as being grounded in irony, thus in no way my true opinion of you or your actual capabilities where it concerns taking care of you and your babe...I'm making it clear here, just in case I've over assumed so that you don't kill me in my sleep...just sayin'...
  9. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pharmacy You claim your other plagiarized thought was from Pubmed, when it was actually from some self help site that children use to research school papers and again you fail to cite your source for the above. Wikipedia? Really? C'mon man. Get your medic and then you won't be so jealous of those that actually have it. Some day when your balls drop you may be brave enough to actually go out and do medicine instead of simply trying and talk about it. Emphasis on 'try.' I wish better for you than this. Do you guys remember that other limp dick that threatened me and my family a few years back? Does this guys tone sound the same? Perhaps Admin has super secret bat handshake kinds of ways to make sure that we're not humoring such a person again? A thought...perhaps if we don't feed the troll he will go away... Dwayne
  10. Ahhh...if you read back you'll notice that i was careful not to say 'IV', but said 'access'..which allowed me to include my I/O. :-) But I have in fact not had the need in the past other than that. And I do find them much more challenging often than other lines. One of the perks I had when going through clinicals back when was someone suggested I spend a few shifts stating lines in the hospital in where they do upper/lower GI scopes. They are always 'well flushed' before their procedures, almost always dehydrated, and the chicks in there can start an IV on anyone! It was awesome. All of this is going to go completely over his head... Heh...I know the reference though I HATED the movie...I know, I know...a person is required by law to love it...but I'm putting my foot down on this one. Dwayne Edited to remove a double word.
  11. Good on you Babe! Depending on the class you really can have fun with it! I can see Beiber already laying the groundwork for his hot EMT fiance to be his partner at his new full time night gig! Sirens with benefits...nice.... Maybe he can help you with your EMS schoolwork and you can help him get a boy haircut..We'll all be better off for it! Dwayne
  12. Where is Crotchity with his outrage? This was obviously a hate motivated attack by an adult black woman on a helpless white child!! What other possible explanation could there be? I think the TSA as a means to protect us from terrorism is equally as valuable and successful as out War On Drugs. Both are doing exactly what they were intended to do. Create a bunch of above average paying jobs for those unqualified for them. Neither had a well defined path with checks in place to verify their success and that is because neither was ever about their stated charter. Both are about money,. Both are about creating more jobs that produce nothing and allowing people to get paid for doing nothing. And yeah, patting that girl down wasn't about being able to prevent a terrorist plot, it was about making sure that there were plenty of white numbers when the "Random" selections are evaluated to make sure that "minoritis" are not being targeted. Also, the trauma that little girl went through was not pat-down related. Mom and dad had the opportunity to advocate for their child by saying, "You know what Babe, you didn't do anything wrong, they do this to many, many good people." But instead decided to stand in line and be selfishly indignant. Mom paid hardly any attention to what was going on with her child but checked numerous times to make sure that the camera was rolling. So mom plays into the whole, "Oh my God Baby! I'm so sorry that such a horrible thing had to happen!" And then will later say..."They traumatized my child forever...." When in fact worse things have happened to her on the school playground, yet she remained untraumatized as she didn't have the benefit of someone to label them as life altering for her. And Ugly and a few others. I'm truly surprised by your comments that "They go to far..." and "I've never been offended by being patted down as they know where not to put their hands.." So, as long as they do an ineffectual search, then you're ok with it, but if they do a search that might actually bear fruit, so to speak, then you're opposed to it? Ask a cop how comfortable they would fell putting someone in their police car without touching their getting extremely intimate... If it's going to be done, then lets do it and make it pay. Make public every month what was confiscated, as well as how much was missed during testing. Lets make them accountable or get them gone. Pretty simply really. Behavioral science demanded over 100 years ago that techniques should be tested and forced to validate themselves or be discarded...Someone should really invent a process to help determine if a given activity is working or not..(hopefully, that is obviously facetious) Dwayne
  13. I'm curious how you diagnosed the hypoglycemia so quickly in a dead patient? Or for that matter what caused him to take the time to diagnose CHF in a dead patient? What steps did he take to do so? My last partner was a rockstar, yet he would never, ever, ever had done anything outside of his scope without my permission. Now, there were a couple of times when I wasn't paying as close of attention as I maybe should have been that he said, "Dwayne, did you want me to go ahead and push THAT NARCAN?" trying to make it sound to anyone listening that he was doing it at my direction. Had I continued to ignore him at some point, quite a ways down the road I can see him saying, "Hey! I need it quiet in here for a second! Dwayne! Would you like this Narcan pushed!?!" I miss him a ton... I get exhausted from just this one story from ignorant basics (Those that are ignorant, not all basics are ignorant), not ones like it, but THIS one, "So I put in an OPA and I'm bagging him, getting good chest rise, and then the ParaaaaGoooood comes running in, yanks it out and intubates! I tell him, "Shithead! We were doing just fine the other way!!" Sheesh. Dwayne
  14. I went from basic to medic, not by choice but because of the inability to find any quality basic experience. The only thing I believe that I would have gained by being a basic first is some first hand knowledge of the political climate of the EMS environment. I do ok, but I would likely have made a lot fewer people cry if I'd understood some things before embarking on my journey... And Ash...you're off in the ditch Babe...not even in the ballpark. Dwayne
  15. As Dust said, likely mid delivery without labor... (My apologies for showing LoneStar's ex girlfriend without permission.) Like that? Very common in livestock. In fact very often you'll hear farmers say, "Expecting that calf/lamb/foal but no bubble yet..." Cerivix dilation allows amniotic sack to prolapse (Not really sure that's the correct term for this) becoming exposed. Dwayne
  16. I didn't call you an idiot and didn't claim that alcohol is the bomb as an antiseptic. As usual you are ignoring my post and venting. Stop that. Reread the post and address what it actually says instead of what you wish it said so that you have something to cry about. Then I'll be more than happy to discuss it with you. I tend to believe that you are probably pretty smart. Just not as smart as YOU think you are. You ignore any question that you don't have an easy, flippant or racial answer to and turn silly questions around to try and make them sound important. No one is fooled. Do you really think that people slam you over, and over, and over for ignoring the pertinent questions and simply continuing to spew nonsense because they have nothing better to do? And when you put forth anothers work as your own, by not citing your sources, you don't look like an idiot, you look cowardly and morally bankrupt. Just debate man! It's really not that hard! You can likely do it if you really set you mind to it. Dwayne
  17. Double post. What happened to the delete button?
  18. Man, other than the majority of your class looking like they're a part of the prison release program, I thought it was awesome!! It made me want to go..I'll tell you that.... Dwayne
  19. Uh, Yeah. In fact you should be sleeping now.... Just sayin'.. Dwayne
  20. I'm not sure how I feel about them trying to protect their national heritage for their spawn coming up in the internet/video age...I saw a quote somewhere..Snopes maybe? That said something to the effect of that we now have several generations of kids that were taught to respect print media that now believe anything they read on the internet. For you youngsters...what you read here, and the print media of old have nothing in common when verification is considered. Unfortunately, I see many adults that behave in that exact same way. Babs bought me a collectors set of The Magnificent 7 a long time ago(Those of you not having been around long will likely have no idea what I'm talking about.)..Like...400 cds or some such..but anyway it had all of the interviews with the actors and editorials etc. What I found interesting was that it was filmed in Mexico, and they made all of the necessary arrangements to do so but the last "I" to be dotted was that someone from the International Protectors of Mexican Appearances bureau (or something like that) had to be present during shooting to make sure that Mexicans weren't portrayed in a bad light. It turns out the woman, I think it was, that filled this position didn't like Mexicans always being portrayed in westerns as dirty, and slovenly, smoking and spitting and talking like idiots, so she changed that. So if you watch that movie, THE western of it's time you see the Mexican workers coming out of the fields at the end of the day exhausted, carrying their hoes yet their clothes are perfectly clean, starched and pressed, none smoke or chew, and all seem to have at a minimum, an MS, at least to hear them speak. :-) I do have to wonder the effect of that image on the youth of that day compared to the image that was normally portrayed. Would I want Dylan to grow up with images of our WWI/II vets raping and pillaging while they slurred in their drunkenness because that had become the accepted global image of Americans for that time period? I truly have no solid opinion on this. Hopefully those that know me here are aware of my thoughts on censorship....Man, I don't know. Perhaps permanently protecting some images for our youth, who live in a digital instead of paper age, even in fantasy, is worthy of the temporary shit storm it will cause? I have no idea.... So, the point being....Well....I'm not exactly sure what my point was..I just found the two like stories interesting... Dwayne Edited to repair formatting.
  21. Of course, the flip side is..you can sneak into the bedroom while she's sleeping, pretending that you're a burglar!.......... Oh hell...maybe that belongs in a different thread... Dwayne Edited for...well..it's not import...
  22. Agreed. But it is still a healthy thing for most to think about..the why's and why not's of what they do and why they do it, in my opinion. Dwayne Like I told emtcutie..I refuse to answer any more of your questions until you learn how to spell... Dwayne
  23. I didn't claim that it is 'so good.' I debated your claim that it is no better than anything else that is moist. And the CDC website is hardly Wikipedia, nor the first thing that came up. And for the record, the shit you cited did in fact pop up in the first Google search I did...so..down boy. We've seen your posts, no one thinks that you're talking from your own knowledge..despite the fact that you have again failed to cite the sources for your claims and pass Googled info off as your own knowledge. We're debating IV sites, not the best product pre hip replacement surgery. Again...reread man..I never claimed it was better than Betadyne, never claimed it was the cat's meow, I simply disputed your ridiculous claim that it is no better than water. And will I put the alcohol cleaned laryngoscope in my mouth? Absolutely, 'cause to the best of my knowledge few, if any, pathogens get us ill orally. Would I touch it to my eye, or put it in my nose? Nah... I never claimed it would be sterile, just disinfected. You know Crotchity, I keep hoping that at some point your arguments will improve. That maybe someday we'll hit upon something that you'll care enough to make an intelligent, passionate argument about. I've seen you do one or the other many times, but never both together. I truly keep hoping that these types of arguments are not as good as you get... Dwayne
  24. Really?? That's insane! Though I'm glad you got!! Dwayne
  25. Hey! Did you wear your lucky necklace?? Dwayne
