  1. It's a terrible day for many, but looks like not as terrible as it may have been... Anyone going over there? Anyone have info on companies hiring medics to go? Dwayne
  2. You're welcome my friend...anyone else get theirs? Who are we missing?
  3. Yeah, this is the first time that I'm going to call bullshit on Island. You can smell the resentment, right? So the opinion is obviously tainted after 'the lovely mom and pop shop' sold out. All AMR ambulance companies are locally managed, which means that they can be radically different. When I did my clinicals with AMR I rode in Pueblo CO and saw what was easily the most screwed up EMS system I've ever been exposed to, and also Colorado Springs where I was inspired and believed then, as now, that I saw exactly how EMS should be run. In fact they have a new hire accademy that is way hardcore. I've not taken it but have talked with many strong medics that have, and they claim that it's really challenging. Unless things have changed radically there, there is not 'meat in the seat' there. The liberals would have you believe that anything big business must be evil. And that can be true, but it certainly doesn't have to be. When I applied to them we took a written test that I found pretty challenging, this was as a basic. And then ran skill stations, just like you did for NR. It was a little bit stressful, took several hours, and there were maybe, 75 other basics there too. But that has been a while back.... Also, spelling is important. You didn't not get responses because of a simple spelling error, but I'm willing to bet that you missed many by throwing a tantrum before 24hrs had even passed on your post. This is a forum..we respond when we can, and don't when we can't. But to pout in front of those that you're asking help from...well, that's pretty bad form. The good news? I've stepped on my dick in so many ways here that it's ridiculous, and it's not terminal. Move on, be brave, participate and you'll find that it's very worthwhile. I'd be interested to know how your interview went, and what you thought of the process, and perhaps you can update this thread with current information for those that come after you? Have a great day! Dwayne
  4. Hey Country! Welcome to the City! No question that the 2 year program is superior in every way. If you had a biology degree then perhaps I would feel differently, but probably not. I was all lined up to take a 7 month AMR program when I joined the City and some here convinced me that I would be studying myself to the bottom of the food chain. I changed and went two year instead and have been so terribly grateful ever since. Plus, there is just so much information. 12 weeks just isn't nearly enough time to absorb it all. Many will make fun of your degree, but you'll find that those that laugh at it are losers that you won't respect anyway. Are there good providers without degrees? Absolutely!! But to choose a weaker option if you have a better option just doesn't make sense, right? Unless your ultimate goal is to be a fireman and medic is just your shortcut there..choose the path that will make you the best, strongest provider possible. Plus, from then on you can stop checking the "Highschool Diploma" option on applications and start checking "Degree." Dwayne
  5. Awesome post brother. And I'm glad that you mentioned that! I too discovered this and used to preach it to folks thinking about taking their NR, but eventually it just sort of fell off of my radar. Thanks for the reminder. Welcome to the city. Congrats on having the balls to jump right in a contribute! That is cool as hell... Dwayne
  6. This is the true joy in life - being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; being a force of nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. ~George Bernard Shaw

wow Dwayne Mardi Grais has you making epiphanies LOL Gotta love the "beads"

  7. Yeah man, I try my best to get on board with you no matter how fucked up your posts get...I love that fact that you're opposed to EVERYTHING resembling conservative logic. So, on scene, I say, "Oh my God Crotchity! I think you're right! A horrible injustice has been committed here!" and dial the police department. I hand you the phone and you say..."..?.." What? Maybe, "Excuse me, my name is paramedic crotchity and we've got two children here that appear to have engaged in sexual activity and offended my sensibilities! Please get someone out here ASAP!" Yeah? (We're going to need an APB on this young woman's virginity!!) The next call that you get will be from my lawyer for violating my daughters right to privacy. And fyre has a great point...besides being humiliated here and at the hospital you've now made this chicks sexual fling public record (I think ?) should she be arrested for this, as well as labeled her a sex offender. Nice. And they've not even started to mug the boy yet. Great job...two kids decided to explore their sexuality and got confused. Unfortunately while they were still reeling a paramedic came along behind and raped them both. Now we've got at least two kids, any kids they talk to, any that read the papers or hear about the trials that know better than to call EMS when they are scared, confuse and/or in trouble. I give this performance a 0/10. Sometimes, even when you're a liberal, there are times that tattling to the government will still not make things right again... The difference between this and a slapped old person? The ability to walk away... Dwayne It breaks my heart to learn that your wife is one of "those"....as everyone knows that good, quality people don't have sex until after marriage, and then only to produce children. Crotchicy is simply trying to incarcerate two you heathens that are obviously already halfway to hell. Repent Mobes! While there is still time! (Horny prick....) I have a feeling that your wife is an amazing woman... Dwayne
  8. Yeah man, I got your Devil's advocate, I was just playing off of it. I should have made that more clear. Dwayne
  9. Sorry all...just talked to Babs and discovered that they didn't get mailed until last Sat... Should be there any day now...'cept for Mobey, in which case I'm confident that no one knows where that address is... Dwayne
  10. Because they're kids!! Everything that causes someone a scab doesn't need to put someone in jail!! Sometimes pain just happens..its how we learn. Kids fuck kids...it's a fact of life and not that big of a deal. Yeah...even when a baby is made. Adults fuck kids?...it's kind of a big deal. The adult needs to be raped because the Oprah crowd is going to convince the kid that S/he can't be healthy unless someone loses their literal or figurative life for it. But unfortunately it's Oprah that cause the majority of the damage, not the 'toucher'. Sometimes sex is just sex!! I had sex maybe....1000 times before I was 18..I mean, I didn't count, but look at what a pillar of society I turned in to!! Pain is inevitable..lets not make learning from our mistakes a crime. violence is a crime..it should be punished. Mutual dumbshittery is just part of growing up..lets not make it a bigger deal than it already is... Nah man...I don't report kid A and kid B for being kids..I only report victims.... Dwayne
  11. Sorry all...just learned today that they didn't get sent out until Saturday.... Should be there soon.... Dwayne
  12. Per Beautiful miss Lee.. "Life is short. Break the rules, forgive quickly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably and never regret anything that made you smile.~Unknown" Perfect, right?

  13. I'm going to admit, though it hurts me, that I didn't read a friggin' thing in this thread... The title made me laugh so hard that I didn't want to spoil it.... Good on your Ruffster.... Dwayne..
  14. Mardi Gras in southern Louisiana...no posts made beyond this point should be considered without that in mind...Just sayin'..

  15. Herbi's post on spam reminded me...does anyone else miss the days of spam when you got unsolicited porn in your email? On the one hand I hated it, but on the other about half of my favorite sexual hangups were delivered serendipitiously from the ozone! I like to think that I'm a glass half full kind of guy...

  16. MG...no worries babe...the drama eventually fines a new path when you choose not to play...unless your a hot chick..in which case, you're screwed...

  17. You know those people that you meet once in a lifetime that....well...are just different, in a really good way? That would be Birchie to a T... (In my profile pic) Love you Birchie...see you soon brother!

  18. Very seldom. When I watch cartoons, or movies, or even medical comedy or drama I feel no need to analyze. Even the hero type stories in the Readers Digest I can sometimes like if they're not too fantastic. But no, in this instance I can't seem to turn it off, or instances like it. I have a major hardon for those that take undeserved applause. In this case at the very least the article is the center of attention when in fact there is almost a certainty that the article is shit. Yet, no doubt the author will be more than happy to accept his/her awards... Probably..grin. I just can't really think of any times right now. I am so completely convinced that a search for the truth should be at the heart of nearly everything if it is to have value that it's difficult for me to turn it off. Every evil fucking thing that I can think of comes from ignorance, deciet, and/or anger/fear (Which I see most often as the same thing misdefined) Man, great point. I saw this last night but decided to let it percolate a bit before answering, as my knee jerk reaction was, "Because it's bad medicine validated by bad journalism!" And that is part of it...But when I was thinking about it, it did piss me off to imagine the award ceremonies going to be held at the volly fire companies because you know damn good and well none of the heros are going to be looking for the truth if it will interfere with getting their pictures in the paper. And you being amongst the first shocked me, to tell the truth. An honest statement, not meant to be a cheap shot. So many of the posters that I respect here were involved in the Rah Rah of this story and it freaked me out a little bit!! I do believe that very few people are critical thinkers, and I like to think those that can, should, for those that can't. Dumb I know. And lastly, I'm confident that amongst this crowd I am one of the least intelligent people here. Sometimes I think, "Holy shit! If they're not watching the helm, if they can be sucked in with a bit of sensationalism, then what hope is there really for logic to ever take hold again." So yeah, that emotion would have fueled my answer the same as a need for a positive outcome may have fueled anothers. So I wonder if there is a right or wrong here....I have no doubt that there is...but I'm no longer sure that I know what it is. It's weird..we can say, "I could give a shit if that articles true or not." And I can live with that....But say, "I think that article was bullshit, what do you think?" And you say, "It's probably true...." without justification and I go out of my mind! Behavioral psych was my strong suit..but I'm guessing that emotionally you were looking to put a win out in the karma column to balance the loss from your past call. Awesome response, thank you for it... I have no idea yet what my answers mean. I look forward to your thoughts if there are any to be given and will have to give it some thought...I liked it a lot though.. Dwayne
  19. Hey! Did everyone get their stuff? Dwayne
  20. I inferred it from that. Yeah, my tone is often pissy, but I'm almost never pissed off. And never at you that I can think of. Ok, maybe years ago when you followed me around the forums correcting my spelling and grammar. But now I love you for that. :-) No interest in going into what's wrong with journalism. It doesn't interest me and it seems to me that the shortcomings are obvioius. But I am interested in EMS and trying to be good for it. I think the article was interesting only in the sense that I watched some of the smartest people on this forum jump on board with it being factual when each and every one of them is smarter than I am. That is where I get the fact that sometimes, we'd rather feel important the intelligent. And yet, here you are still telling me I'm an asshole for showing you the respect of taking your comments at face value. If that is what you felt, then yes, that would have been much better phrasing. I didn't chase you down babe looking to split hairs. They were your comments, and they were clear. This is the first time since we've been friends that I've seen you try not to be responsible for something that you've said. It doesn't suit you. It sounds like what you also have enough of is people that surround you and have accepted complaining in place of logic. I know you're tired...new husband, job, school..it's a lot and sometimes too much, but you have never been that way and and I'm not going to support it now. You know better than to expect me to allow you to be half assed because you're having a bad day. You and others have never accepted that from me and I won't accept it from you. We've been friends for what, 5 years or so? You will be happy that this thread didn't stand on the things you've posted so far...you will see. Love you Cutie. Dwayne
  21. What makes you think that I was pissed off? Because I disagreed with you? And by proxy, Mike because you lauded him? I disagree with the last paragraph. You did in fact defend the article and you did so by cutting and pasting very specific parts of it, right? I simply disagreed with you. In the past I've bragged on you as one of the most intelligent posters here. Are you now so well respected that I can't disagree with you unless I'm 'pissed?' I have almost no doubt whatsoever that you are off int the ditch on your opinion here. And if that pisses you off, then I'll be happy to discuss that with you. But surely you know better by now than to think that I'm going to change my opinion because you get pissy? As presented the article makes a half asses attempt at pretending to be valid. As someone with an English major I would think that you would be offended that they did such a poor job as to not go all the way. For such pot holed nonsense to be news has come to be accepted. For us to validate it here as 'news' is even more horrendous. As something that " I see no need to question...' is simply sinful. Dwayne
  22. Sorry Mike, but you seem to have the impression that by questioning the story that I have questioned you and your skill also. That is not the case. I think the story is bullshit, but I have never had reason to believe you to be the same. My comments came on the heels of Wendy stating that your analytical skills are 'legend' (meaning only to show her respect). Do I believe it was a bad thing to post this story? Yeah, if you don't stand behind it I believe that it was bad to post it without comments and many of the younger and more inexperienced posters, as myself, might accept it as valid based simply on the fact that you posted it. Do I believe that by posting it without comments that you then put your 'seal of approval' on it as Wendy seems to think? I don't. But I do believe that for a few moments you may have forgotten that this is a learning/teaching forum and posted something sensational. I love that this story was posted, but am disappointed that it didn't get more comments. This is a perfect example of, "We want to feel that we're important so lets take all sensational stories at face value!" yet is the first step back to providers worshiping pseudoscience. And that is really bad. I noticed that you used 'rah rah bullshit' over and over. I'm guessing that is because you believe i directed it at you? If so you are mistaken. If you used it because you were offended and felt that I was unfair to the story then you and I will have to split the sheets here. The story had nothing to offer our up and comming providers... Wendy, I love you but I didn't read past, "I see no reason to doubt this story as presented, because there's simply not enough to go on and it was obviously not written by a health professional." This sentence is so far off in the ditch that I had to bail at that point.... Dwayne.
  23. Wow, so because you and Mike said that it's valid then the rest of us should suspend our critical thinking? If not I'm not clear to the meaning of the bolded text above. As your quoted sources include no timeline then I would suggest that both you and mike need to be significantly more critical when reviewing such stories? (tongue half in cheek) It doesn't list the ALS responders in the initial treatment, nor does it say when they arrived but I'm guessing that they came with the helicopter. It does sound like someone had an AED, as it states that he was shocked "a dozen times", right? If it was used from the beginning, how many shocks would he have gotten according to ACLS protocols had he remained in arrest for 96 minutes? If that number doesn't equal 12 then it would seem that his heart was in a non-shockable rhythm the majority of the time. Are we to assume that he was bouncing in and out of asystole then? Pretty unlikely, right? The story makes little sense as presented. It makes a rah rah bullshit feel good piece, but to laud it as anything resembling an accurate document doesn't ad up for me. Could it be true? Sure. Could there be aliens living amongst us? Almost as likely... Dwayne
  24. You and i wake up in a psych ward using four words what would you say to me. Note if you comment you must post this as your status to see what i would say.

  25. I tend to believe that it's much more likely that the patient didn't need CPR the entire time. There is just not enough information in this article to give any credence to there being anyone on scene qualified to obtain minimal vital signs.Especially if this was a hypothermia situation. Know what I mean? I love a good story as much as the next person, but a first responder report that the pt was pulseless and apneic the entire time does not a scientific anamololy make. Surely you all have run on cases of well meaning people, up to and including young medics, that have been doing CPR on a pt that did not fit the criteria for CPR. Not long ago we ran on a significant drug overdose where an EMTB first volunteer was on scene leading CPR. Brady at about 30, not sure about resp rate, but it was really, really slow, CPR in progress. I stop CPR, grab a pulse while my partner gets an IV and pushes Narcan. Miracle of miracles the pt wakes up, all the while the basic is yelling, "We brought her back! We got our first save!" I don't enjoy to be a downer, but we truly do need to be critical of such stories if we're going to be committed to science instead of feel good urban (rural in this case) legend. Dwayne
