While there's been quite a few 'home remedies' listed, we seem to have gotten away from the 'key part' of the assignment....with harmful or lethal consequences. The 'ear candling' seems to be one of the very few that has follwed the request. To show that I've actually done some searching, I've come up with the following .... 50/50 solution of hydrogen peroxide and water used for: clearing sinuses (spray into the nose and hold for 10 minutes) use same mixture instead of feminine hygene products a capful of hydrogen peroxide to ease toothache pain Drinking colloidal silver to enhance immune system... Eating 'white radishes' as a 'cure' for Hepatitus B.... Ingesting tapeworm larvae as a 'diet plan' Belladonna (nightshade) to 'cure' the common cold, earache, fever, arthritis, menstrual cramps, diverticulitis, muscle pain, headache, conjunctivitis, sore throat, and a number of other 'ailments'. For those that don't know, the drug Atropine is derived from Belladonna, and in its 'pure form' is deadly....... Ingesting kerosine for whooping cough.....

ROFLMAO They're gonna LOVE that one in class! I'm betting that one spawned "Pain in one's ass" as well as a couple other ones!

My two favorite phrases are: "Hey y'all, watch this!" "Here, hold my beer." When the two are combined in the same 'incident', we're sure to have our hands full for a while!

What I'm looking for is any 'home remedy' that usually ends up with harmful or lethal end results. From what I've been able to get so far is things like the 'ear candling' for ear aches. Problem there (if the candle doesn't burn you) is that you can actually lose your hearing, using kerosene/benzine or turpentine for lice, spraying a 50/50 mixture of water and hydrogen peroxide to 'unplug the sinuses' for cold sufferers, I've heard of it being used in place of feminine hygene. There was actually a case in South Carolina where a licensed doctor ended up giving a patient an IV containing hydrogen peroxide as a 'cure' for Lyme Disease. Further searching has revealed a 'natural cure' for Hepatitus B, and the use of belladonna (nightshade) to treat a host of maladies. The only problem there is that belladonna is poisonous; even in it's 'homeopathic strength'. Then there's the 'blue man' from ingesting colloidal silver to treat everything from fungal infections to HIV and hepatitus and cancer. As for the 'American vs 'non American'' remedies, there was no limitations. I would like to try to stay with the more 'modern applications' if I could. From what I'm finding out, in most cases I have to ask....."WTF were they thinking????"

I was given a 'homework' assignment on Saturday, and could use some 'public input' on.... The assignment was to compile a list of 'home remedies' that are harmful or lethal; (I guess that 'what doesn't cure you will kill you' would be the adage that governs these home remedies). Welcome back, Chris! I'm currently in school to reacquire my EMT-B, then move on to EMT-I (it's all part of the same course here in GA). After that, I'm planning on going after my Associates Degree in Medic. A couple of minor 'setbacks', but I WILL adapt, improvise and overcome! Glad to have your face back around the place!

If by chance your 'question' isn't answered by the time you finish reading the suggested material, I heartily endorse your heading down to the local Walmart or Kmart and picking up a great big box of PATIENCE! If I remember correctly, they've got it on sale this week as a 2fer!

The ones I use the most are: CAOx_ (Concious, Alert/Oriented times 1-4) NL (Non Labored) PERRL (Pupils Equal, Round/Reactive to Light) Everything else I tend to write out using proper medical terminology. I do however, tend to use alot of the medical sybols when writing the narrative of the PCR.... One 'abbreviation'/acronym I REFUSE to EVER use is 'WNL'. Supposedly, it means "Within Normal Limits", but more often than not, it only stands for "We Never Looked"! *post edited to add content*

If you consider SAFETY (yours and the general public's) a 'religion', then YES it IS 'contrary to some religious ritual'! Umm....YEP! The increase in 'response time' is negligible at best, and as far as the 'wear and tear' on the vehicles from stopping at intersections until you are ABSOLUTELY SURE that it's safe to proceed is far LESS than the damage inflicted upon said vehicle as you get 't-boned' because you blew through an intersection before it was safe to proceed! I'm fairly certain that Colorado advocates the SAFE operation of emergency vehicles. YOU however, only advocate the undermining of that goal, and you should be disqualified from EVER operating an emergency vehicle! Not only that, but the same amount of 'wear and tear' would be inflicted on the vehicle if you were proceeding in a 'non emergent' mode of travel! Frankly, it doesn't matter if they want you out of the way or not. The whole point of ANY 'EVOC course' is to emphasize SAFE operations of an emergency vehicle. Something you have CLEARLY FORGOTTEN, even with your 'credentials'! Weather conditions only play a part of safely operating an emergency vehicle. There is another 'catch phrase' that you're blatantly ignoring, and that is to 'drive with due regard', which means that you MUST drive that emergency vehicle in such a manner that you do NOT put the general public at risk. Again something that you have CLEARLY FORGOTTEN. Remember, you're driving an AMBULANCE, not a freaking RACE CAR! There is NO 'prize' in getting to the scene 'faster' if you have to do it in an UNSAFE manner! Just because the road has the same rating as the Autobahn, doesn't mean you HAVE to drive like you're on the Autobahn! So, if I read this statement correctly; your biggest 'complaint' about these 'fake runs' is because they put the general public at risk? Isn't that EXACTLY what you're doing by advocating this insane driving policy? Since you cannot GUARANTEE that all other vehicles WILL stop, you're just BEGGING to be hit, or hit someone else! You sir, are an accident waiting for a place to happen! Hitting another vehicle while zipping merrilly along at 90+ mph is a sure fire way to KILL someone! Just what do you think is going to happen when you cream a minivan full of kids being chauffered someplace? As far as the 'polution', how much more polution are you creating by burning enough hydrocarbon fuels to maintain that 90+ MPH? Your 'explanations' only serve to continually prove what kind of an ID 10-T you REALLY are! Ruffles, I should have followed your lead, and just removed myself from this entire discussion! I think we can parabola conclude from this equation that Al-Gebra is intent on reducing us to the lowest common denominator, or converting us from what it feels are the improper fractions; before trying to addendum everyone into the sum of their polynomial way of life. DOE also can be mistaken for Department of Education and Department of Energy... As far as the whole SOB/DIB thought process, both make sense, but this is why we have such wonderful words as 'dyspnea' and 'apnea'. I realize that some of the medical words are real 'tongue twisters', but we ARE part of the 'medical community', so therefore in my mind, we have to speak the language......

It's been my experience that an emergency vehicle running 'hot' must ALWAYS bear to the left. Driver's education and state laws state that when approaching emergency vehicles with lights and sirens activated, the driver must pull to the RIGHT and stop. If the intersection ahead is blocked by cars stopped at a red light, I have the right to cross into the oncoming lanes as long as I have both emergency lights AND an audible warning device (siren) activated. Once the intersection has been negotiated, you MUST return to 'your side of the road' As has been said before, safety is your PRIMARY concern! This includes stopping at intersections even if you have your lights and siren activated. Lights and siren do NOT guarantee the right of way, it's merely a request for the right of way be yeilded to you. Always assume that the other drivers don't see you and drive accordingly. You MUST drive with 'due regard' for the general public. This means that you really shouldn't be 'flying down the road', just because you've got lights and siren turned on.

What it looks like is that the cities of Dallas and Houston require an 'E-permit' to work in EMS in those cities. I'm sure that contacting any EMS agency there would provide the information that you require. In Genesee County, MI; each EMS worker is required to have a 'permit' that is issued by the County Medical Control Board. EMT-Basic has an "E" card (pink) EMT-Specialist has an "I" card (yellow) EMT-Paramedic has a "P" card (blue) The cards are laminated, and usually have a copy of your license laminated on the back of the appropriate color card. In order to get one of these cards, you have to be affiliated with a licensed agency within that county, or that has priveliges in that county. You must have this card visible at all times while working. The Medical Control Board WILL do 'spot inspections'. You can bring patients INTO the county, but you cannot pick up, or treat a patient without it.

Terror, I think you must have some sort of 'anti drama' radar or something that keeps you busy when possible 'drama situations' occur. Show me where there's a White Chamber of Commerce, a White Mayors Coalition, White Entertainment Television, a United White Folks College Fund, White Business Owners Association.... You CAN'T; because they DON'T EXIST. Those orgainizations aren't ALLOWED to exist! How are these 'exclusionary organizations' considered 'watchdog organizations'? What does the Black Mayor's Coalition fight against? How about Black Entertainment Television....or Ebony and Jet magazines? 'Angry Young Black Man Syndrome' has actually been used as a LEGAL DEFENSE, and is a 'recognized syndrome'. It's not that some black man decided to coin a phrase and then elevated it to a 'syndrome' all on his own. This is no different than Michelle Obama wanting to elevate blacks OVER whites. What do you think was in that 'Princeton Paper' that they couldn't/wouldn't release prior to the election? The 'problem' here is you want Africa 'rewarded' for selling their own people into slavery! That's just like our tax dollars going to companies like General Motors to reward them for taking our jobs and sending them overseas! It makes just as much sense. As far as 'reparations' go, it amounts to nothing more than 'emotional blackmail'. Once the 'blackmail money' has been paid, what guarantee do whites have that they won't have to pay again and again? Another generation or two down the road, and we'll be back at this particular point again.... As far as 'whites stop discriminating'...my friend, THAT is a two way street! For a school to be 'accredited' means that it has been recognized for it's quality of education. The definition I found for an accredited school is: To recognize (an institution of learning) as maintaining those standards requisite for its graduates to gain admission to other reputable institutions of higher learning or to achieve credentials for professional practice. Any trade school can teach you how to do something.....but if they're not accredited, then there's no guarantee that the credits you've earned for that course will transfer to any reputable college. It's good to see that you haven't fallen off the face of the planet, old friend!

I'm still wondering why the points I raise are being outright IGNORED by crotchity. Duke, I too went to a predominantly black school system (80-95% black), while living in a 'poor section' of town. Yeah, I know what it's like to wonder if you're going to make it home without getting jumped because you're white! Yeah, I know what it's like to be the minority...getting lower grades for the same work because the teachers wanted 'payback'. Just because people use the infamous 'n-word' on craiglist (or any other social networking site), doesn't mean that blacks can't take advantage of the educational opportunities that are presented to them! When my EMT-B/EMT-I class began, we had a class make up of at least 25% black students (5 out of 21 students). When the second quarter started, we lost at least 3 of those students. Only one of those students dropped the class because of not having enough hours left in her grant to finish the class. That means the rest just QUIT! How about sticking to the questions that are presented to you crotchity, instead of trying to confuse the issue by throwing out how many times anonymous sources use a particular word on a 'social networking site'?

FAIL! The test in question was written in ENGLISH. Everyone that took that test was expected to have at least a working understanding of ENGLISH. Testing in a foreign language shouldn't even be a factor. Here in America, we speak english, if you're an immigrant, it is incumbent upon you to assimilate to your host nation, which means that in order to 'become a useful part of society', you must speak english. There is nothing wrong with keeping the traditions/customs/language of your 'homeland' alive; it's part of your heritage. But to sit back and expect that we will cater to your speciffic needs at the expense of our own is ludicrous at best! We as Americans have been pushed around, and been forced to cater to the demands of the immigrants (at the expense of our own ideals and identities) for far too long! As far as I'm concerned, you have only two choices at this point: either 'fit in' with the rest of us or LEAVE! *edited content below* With you being in your 40's, you've been 'allowed' to access the educational system long enough to make your 'points' moot. In 1954, (at least 6 years before you were born), Brown v. Board of Education desegregated the schools, which means that blacks were exposed to the same educational opportunities as whites. To sit back and lament that 'we can't speak whitey's version of english' is also a moot point! Even in the 54 years that followed, we should expect to start seeing more blacks showing signs of better education. With that said, it further strengthens the contention that it's not a matter of not being exposed to the same educational opportunities, but a lack of effort on the part of the student that can't read, write or speak proper english! Whites arent cheating blacks out of an education, blacks are cheating blacks out of taking advantage of the educational opportunities available to them!

If genetics played a part in 'edcuational evolution', then we'd be tripping over the accomplishments of many of the following names: Carver, Curie, DuBois, Edison, Einstein, Hale, Marconi, Saulk, Tesla, Washington , et al. Following the same train of thought, if genetics DID play a part in 'educational evolution', none of these people would have been able to do what they did with the educational opportunities available at the time! I guess that whites can't have their civil liberties violated, and if they can, it's not important enough for the American Civil Liberties Union to get involved....is this because the complaintants in this case are WHITE? Why is it, that when people like David Duke spouts his anti-black rhetoric, he's destroyed politically, and crucified in the media; while people like Louis Farrakhan can spout their hateful, deplorable rhetoric and people CHEER for him?
