Theres always traffic on I-95 here in Savannah, GA as well

I've actually seen that truck in person. I have to admit that its a beautiful truck, and the whole 'mood' around it was every bit as sombering as seeing the 'traveling wall', or being at any other 'memorial site'! 9/11 Rolling Tribute

While I was actively fighting fire, I mentioned my graphic arts ability (its all self taught). I was asked to come up with something for the trucks. One of the designs I created incorporated the 343 number into the design, which was quickly rejected because 'it didn't affect us'...I was absolutely mortified that firefighters (the same age and younger than myself), could actually say that without regret! The 'other design' I created was selected as 'better' because it was 'more personal to the department', but since they decided to take the road they did for ending my career, they didn't get the opportunity to use the design! If anyone is interested in seeing the design that I created (either the rejected one, or the 'better one', let me know and I can provide links to them. Thank you to all the Firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement and military personnel, for doing what so many either choose not to do, or cannot do! LS

Hope the day is filled with nothing but good things! I"ve got a walker I can donate to 'the cause' if you really need it!

I tried to park it in your garage, but it was full of junk!

Now that's just plain funny! I don't care who you are, thats funny right there!

If that was directed at me, I realize that Luna is a girl's name....its also the name of the bird that was mindlessly calling for 'help'. The owner, named Evelyn DeLeon, wasn't home...and obviously not needing the help the stupid bird was calling for.....
-
Just from the title of this thread, obviously the original poster didn't read the entire article. If they had, they wouldn't be asking if 'they helped her' or not. (Mainly because the article states quite clearly that there was no 'her' to help!) Then there's the other responses saying that they were predicting that 'she' was helped and all was well. That's why I was asking if they read the entire article, or just 'skimmed through it'.... Yeah Dust, pea fowl DO have a call that DOES sound like a woman screaming. I would have loved to seen the bird owners expression when the cops showed up expecting to find some 'battle field conditions' when they knocked on the door!
-
Judging from what I read in the story, "But instead of a damsel in distress, officers found a caged cockatoo with a convincing call." That tells me there was no one in need of assistance. How can you read that article and not come to the same conclusion? If you came to another conclusion, did you read EVERY word of the story...or just skim through it? Since the officers had to kick in the door because there was no one home....(not that I blame the officers for their actions), how can you help someone that isn't there?

I guess if you don't like that...you SURE ain't gonna like this:
-
Thats ok, AK.... From what we've heard, an inch more and you'd be a King...but an inch less, you'd be a Queen... I guess it could be worse, I mean, at least for the moment, you're 'breaking even'.......

After my surgery for a giant cerebral aneurysm, (I was still in uniform when it presented), the nurse had to straight cath me....her comment at the time was, "My God, you've got the bladder capacity of 5 people!" I wanted to tell her that was the joy of working EMS, but just couldn't say a word.....

Well, watching the weather channel, it looks like New Orleans dodged a 'direct hit'! Now we need to watch hurricane Hanna, ... According to projections, she's gonna hit somewhere between Jacksonville, FL and Hilton Head, SC... This means I'm looking right down the barrel on this one!
-
I'm TRYING to get that image out of my head, and you're not making it any easier!
-
AK? Stirring up shit? Say it ain't so!
-
Welcome back Dust! We've missed your grouchy ass!!!

In the speech that Ray Nagin gave while ordering evacuations and informing looters that they wouldn't 'get a pass this time, but go straight to Angola', he DID say that those that stayed behind would NOT be rescued.
-
How is it 'G.W. Bush's last folly before leaving office' that mother nature threw a hurricane at New Orleans, and that the MAYOR of New Orleans ordered the mandatory evacuation? Oh wait!...Gustav's got weapons of mass destruction and THAT'S why ol' G.W. declared war....wait..that's not it.... Maybe ol' "Dubbyah" went down to Hurricanes R Us, and bought the top of the line Hurricane ...the Gustav model, just to turn it loose on the U.S. ...thats GOT to be it! It's amazing how most people in the U.S. want to blame the President for EVERYTHING that happens...but I think this one set a new 'record' for asinine accusations! Bush had NOTHING to do with the forced evacuation of New Orleans, this time or the last. Bush had NOTHING to do with how hard Katrina and Rita hit the Gulf Coast....and remember, it was Michael Brown that dropped the ball in '05....

Just because you're not paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you!

After reading all the comments on this topic, I feel compelled to wade in and offer my two cents worth of commentary. Let me preface this by admitting that I have one tattoo, and am looking at eventually getting a second one. The one I have already is on my upper left arm, and is adequately covered when in a short sleeve uniform shirt. I’ve seen the comments range from ‘patient comfort’ to ‘right to self expression’ and ‘in the name of professionalism’ to name a few reference points. I’ve also seen the term ‘common sense says’. EMS is a field that isn’t readily recognized as a ‘profession’, and coming to work with tattoos that are visible isn’t a good way to becoming recognized as a profession/professional. Yes, you have the right to ‘self expression’, but in the name of ‘professionalism’, there must be a concession of that ‘right to self expression’. Knowing that there may be some people that will look down on the tattooed healthcare provider as being ‘unprofessional’ (and maybe even downright ‘scary’), it is the RESPONSIBILITY of the tattooed healthcare provider to take steps to put the patient at ease, and take steps to have the patient feel they’re in the best hands they could possibly hope for! If this means covering up your tattoos, then so be it! This isn’t a matter of who’s rights ‘trump’ who’s rights, it’s a matter of ‘common decency’ and taking steps to present yourself as a knowledgeable, compassionate and competent professional. As long as there are different viewpoints on any subject known to man, there will ALWAYS be ‘prejudices’. It is the PROFESSIONAL that takes the appropriate steps to eliminate those prejudices, or at least not be the ‘target’ of them. If being a ‘professional’ means I have to either take out any and all body piercings, covering my tattoos, and keeping hair up off the collar and ears; then so be it! I think it’s a small price to pay, to be perceived as the professional that I am. Since you are acting as an agent for your employer, (by wearing the company uniform, dressing within the company guidelines for a dress code), and providing the services that they are selling; then the employer has the right to dictate what guidelines he/she may deem ‘appropriate’, to ensure the image he/she wants to project of their company. As an employee, it’s your responsibility to conform to those dictates, or resign your position and move on. You must ask yourself one important question at this point: how many of those people with the multiple facial piercings, exposed tattoos and ‘unique hair styles’ do you REALLY see in ‘professional positions’? It’s not surprising that you DON’T find them in the ‘professional areas’ within a company. They are not projecting a good image for any company! You’ll find most of these ‘social abnormalities’ working in menial jobs that don’t require a high level of customer interaction, because they do NOT project an image that the general public is comfortable with! I hate to say it Boeing, but that is an arrogant and self centered comment! Just because a segment of society finds things more ‘acceptable’ than the general population as a whole, it doesn’t mean that the criteria of what makes a ‘professional’ should be altered, just to accommodate those ‘broader views’.

By looking at the image I got from my hurricane tracking program, it looks like New Orleans has been saved from a 'direct hit', and if Hanna stays on track, will save New Orleans from another double punch, like it took in 2005. Ok, first off, I'll concede to the Ibuprofen OD (been doing lots of research on this one!) Next, a question for Ruffles.... You mentioned activated charcoal as part of your tx, and I think I can understand the reason why, ( to bind withe the ibuprofen instead of letting the body digest it); which leads to my question: wouldn't ipecac also be effective? If I remember correctly, the contraindications would be petroleum distilates or caustic substances, neither of which are applicable here.
