*gives annie that "Who me? look."* :sad5: Finally! A woman that will admit what men have figured out a LONG time ago! I once asked several women the same question men have been asking each other for centuries...."What is it wommen REALLY want?" The funny thing is.....even the women couldn't answer it with any reliable results!!! So, if women can't figure out what women want.....how the hell are men supposed to figure it out???

*speaks slowly for jess* Brent was the party pooper by taking a fun thread and letting Serious Cat tell us not to goof off..... *draws jess a map so she can keep up with the rest of the class* :-k :-k #-o

*GASP!* We have been visited by Serious Cat! Ok everybody, let's shape up and get back to being serious! Otherwise we'll all be turned into catnip toys!

The line I use quite often (it's a shame I should have to say it to her at all!), "Don't go looking for 'problems' where there are none. That way there won't be any 'problems'!"

Thats just ROTTEN!!! lol I mean to intentionally put us in that spot, just to see that 'deer in the head light look'.......thats just plain out rotten! I would have to agree....Although, Sweet's answer did make me chuckle. Mom always said that those who get defensive so quickly are probably guilty of the 'offense'.....thanks mom!

The 'point' of the thread would be that women ask men questions that we don't ever dare to answer, due to the 'reactions' we get from the women for answering? *note to self....do not tell jokes that have to be explained!

Guys.... We've all heard those 'dangerous questions' that women ask, (you know...the ones we don't DARE answer) like: Does this dress make my butt look big? If you could change one thing about me, what would it be? Well, I've heard a new one on a television commercial which even from first hearing has the hallmarks of that 'unanswerable question'..... She says: If you could be with any of my friends, who would it be? Oh yeah, like I'm REALLY going to answer that one and spend the rest of my life under suspicion of trying to hit on your best friend! Not on your life! If I don't name someone, then I'm going to be accused of not liking ANY of your friends.... Ladies, why don't you just shoot us in the foot, instead of putting us in such a dangerous position? I dont care how many times you say 'Aww c'mon, you can tell me, I promise I won't be mad.' YES YOU WILL!

Here's a couple more I thought should be added to the list: 45) Your boots have been seized by the EPA, DNR, or the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission as hazardous materials. 46) You've discussed with your partner which is better for dinner: pizza and beer or spaghetti and red wine; while performing a gastric lavage.

Dath Rattle: A gurgling or rattling sound made when the respirations pass through accumulating mucus in the throat of a dying patient. The mucus is present because the patient has lost the 'cough reflex'. New Word: Agonal Respiration

"Paramedic's save lives, EMT's save Paramedics"
Lone Star replied to medic001918's topic in General EMS Discussion
I've never had a medic partner, but would welcome that opportunity AS LONG AS I didnt get put down as some inferior human being because I dont have EMT-P after my name. The only time I saw a medic make glaring mistakes that could have cost a pt their life was when I was the patient. A proper IPS was not done, vitals were not completely or accurately assessed, and no treatments were given in my speciffic situation. I contacted the local medical control board, and they agreed that there was gross negligence on the medics part and unfortunately, he no longer has a license in the state of Michigan. Before I even contacted the Medical Control Board, I made sure to discuss the events and what my treatments should have beeen (by protocol for paramedics in that county). I don't like this Medic vs Basic pissing match. We're all part of the EMS system, and our main goal should be to provide the patient with the best care our scope of practice allows! We all put our boots on one at a time, and no one should run around feeling 'superior' to someone else because they haven't got the same education. There could be mitigating factors involved that prevented the person from moving up in training. I agree that we all have our place in the EMS system, and it's not a 'me against you' situation! Leave the 'adversarial system' to the lawyers! -
Tubercle: A nodule or swelling, especially a mass of lymphocytes and epithelioid cells forming the characteristic lesion of tuberculosis or a knoblike process in the skin or on a bone. [b]New word: Hoover's sign (as applies to respirations)

If you've ever had to take in an involuntary committal, you'll know that even with the prospect of the 'softer' leather restraints as opposed to the cold steel of handcuffs means nothing to the patient thats being taken in. Secondly, if you've got a violent patient, you arent going to want to be in 'close' to them long enough to apply the cuff and strap of the leather restraint system......if the patient HAS to be restrained, you want them restrained as fast as possible, causing as little damage as possible.

To whom it may concern: If my last post seemed to be too harsh, preach or simply beating up on a student, I apologize. My intention is not to beat up on anyone, but to simply get the information as accurate as posible. I've seen med control (Oakland and Wayne counties in Michigan), call to light the errors on PCR's. That Detroit area med control boards are more stringent than others...I cant say with any authority. I've only worked under 4 counties protocols in MI. I've seen the docs get angry with other crews for not being able to accurately describe the condition of the pt, use wrong terminology, etc. Behind their backs, these same docs will make comments on the EMT's competency. I have no problem teaching the tricks I've learned along the path of My EMS career, and I'm sure that some of these will come in handy one day.... I do however want to say this right up front, loud and clear: I DON'T KNOW IT ALL, AND NEVER WILL! I can only go forth and do the best I can with the education that I have, and will recieve in the future. Thank you for taking the time to listen, I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.....

I think Grand Traverse County and Saginaw County do that as well..... I also believe that Highland Park is a PS department I'm taking it you're from MI ?

What happened to the vertebral artery, the basilar artery, the temporal artery, the posterior communicating arteries....and those are considered 'paired arteries' as well, and are part of the collection of 'arteries of the head and neck'. I'm sure I didn't name them all either, but then again, I haven't needed to major in gross anatomy either. Each half of the artery? Since you stated that the common corotid divides (bifurcates) into the internal and external corotid....you would think that each 'half' of that artery is complete by itself. I would hate to think that theres only half of an artery just hanging out either filling with blood with no way to drain the collection.....or just bleeding out because theres nothing to hook to..... Paired arteries simply denote that there are two...one for each side of the body or organ. Before someone accuses me of nitpicking.....think about it.... if there's that much room for 'correction' by someone online, think what kind of 'correction' you'll be getting from doctors and possibly med control........ Besides that, when theres such errors...could affect patient care. We shouldn't have to figure out what you're trying to say, you should be precise and accurate. There is no room for 'you know what I was trying to say'...... or 'you know what I meant'. I saw a sign in an auto parts store one day...and I couldnt help but think just how true it really was: THE WRONG INFORMATION WILL GET YOU THE WRONG PARTS EVERYTIME....GUARANTEED If you're going to make these kinds of 'mistakes' in a chat forum.....you're going to make those same mistakes on your PCR, which will either make you look incompetent, or worse, affect patient care.

I'd delete it, but dont know how!

Vagus Nerve: Either of the tenth and longest of the cranial nerves, passing through the neck and thorax into the abdomen and supplying sensation to part of the ear, the tongue, the larynx, and the pharynx, motor impulses to the vocal cords, and motor and secretory impulses to the abdominal and thoracic viscera. Also called pneumogastric nerve The American Heritage® Dictionary New word: Circle Of Willis

In the several counties that I covered in Michgan, the handcuff is an acceptable restraint as well, same caveat, as well as MANDATORY law enforcement accompaniment. If the law enforcement officers refuse to accompany the restrained pt, we have the right to refuse the transport of the patient, leaving the officer to transport said pt in his/her cruiser.

At 31 places along the spinal cord the dorsal and ventral roots come together to form spinal nerves. Spinal nerves contain both sensory and motor fibers, as do most nerves. Spinal nerves are given numbers which indicate the portion of the vertebral column in which they arise. There are 8 cervical (C 1 - C-8*), 12 thoracic (T1-T12), 5 lumbar (L1-L5), 5 sacral (S1-S5), and 1 coccygeal nerve. Nerve C1 arises between the cranium and atlas (1st cervical vertebra) and C8 arises between the 7th cervical and 1st thoracic vertebra. All the others arise below the respective vertebra or former vertebra in the case of the sacrum. Since the actual cord ends at the second lumbar vertebra, the later roots arise close together on the cord and travel downward to exit at the appropriate point. These nerve roots are called the cauda equina because of their resemblance to a horses tail. * Asterisk added to break up combination for a smiley face http://www.unm.edu/~jimmy/spinal_notes.htm New Word: Peripheral Nervous System

Brain stem: The stemlike part of the brain that is connected to the spinal cord. Or conversely, the extension of the spinal cord up into the brain. The brain stem is small but important. It manages messages going between the brain and the rest of the body, and it also controls basic body functions such as breathing, swallowing, heart rate, and blood pressure. The brain stem also controls consciousness and determines whether one is awake or sleepy. The brain stem consists of the midbrain, pons, and medulla oblongata. http://www.medterms.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=2517 New word: Foramen Magnum

I would have to agree with Dust on this one. Just as we don't tell the local law enforcement troops how to secure a scene, process a ticket, or run their investigation, they have no business trying to tell us how to do our job. It sounds to me, like the whole 'media circus feeding frenzy' was their own doing. I mean, even though this guy was an alleged confessed murderer, a couple officers in the rig, and maybe one unmarked unit behind the rig should have been sufficient, they turned it into some presidential motorcade.
