  1. Those to me would be good for critical care IFTs but that's about it. At least in "older" cities they aren't practical for 911 response.
  2. Those are MASSIVE trucks they use.... compensation?
  3. Or an endless stream of nursing/emt/medic students who they can have do it for free
  4. When I have a uniform which actually has pockets on the shirt, I'll keep one of those really thin notepads in one. When I don't have a shirt like that, I keep it in the pants. I find though that reaching into cargo pockets you always have to dig to find the thing you want. Much prefer to know exactly where the notepad and pen are.
  5. wow, the concept of not having an NPA just didn't honestly occur to me. In my experience they are one of the most under-utilized basic airway devices (right after proper positioning!). Any seizing/post-ictal/semiconscious/unconscious patient I'll use an NPA on. I pretty much personally restrict the OPA to people who are in arrest. Everyone else gets an NPA (obviously this is a guideline, not a hard fast rule).
  6. I guess the whole idea is what IS a professional look? To me someone wearing a business suit looks professional, someone wearing a lab coat looks professional, etc. Who decided and said that we have to dress like you described to "look the part" and be professional?
  7. I can show you in picture form... Our O2 kit: Our "Trauma Bag" as we call it: And our monitor: That is the bare minimum that is brought in on every single call we go on. Spinal/OB/Burn kit supplies brought in prn
  8. Not sure if I posted this already but when working IFT I usually say: "Hi my name's Alex and I'll be your chauffeur this evening, this is my partner Stephanie and she'll be your in-flight attendant"
  9. Wow, do you work for the military or something?
  10. If you are set on not posting them then could you at least send them to me in a PM? I'd love to see them.
  11. I'm curious, what situation would IN Fentanyl be more desirable than another route? I can understand someone on it chronically or something but I'm having a hard time coming up with one for prehospital.
  12. If all you have is the spray (as that is all I have) would you reach in there and lift up their tongue or would you simply spray it onto the tongue/into the mouth as some is better than none? I also find that spraying it straight up creates a nice air freshener effect to the room/truck
  13. If they are hypertensive, flooded to the point that their eyeballs are floating and semi-conscious then Nitro is going to be still an option to me. It's one of the few things i can do to help them. Oxygenation, assisted ventilation and nitrates.
  14. This thread can be productive... at least I think my question in my previous post is productive...
  15. Just thinking out loud (well, through my fingers). You have a patient who is severe CHF to the extreme and semi-conscious from being so hypoxic. You want to give them nitro and assuming they meet all the V/S parameters how do you do it if they aren't coherent enough to lift their tongue? Do you lift it for them? Just curious cuz I'm not sure.
  16. I'd like to step in here and suggest that everyone steps back and takes a few deep breaths. Let's not get personal here folks.
  17. To me IN is great from a health and safety aspect as well. If you are going at a seizing pt with a sharp, you have a significantly higher risk of a stick injury. IN to me seems much safer. And if it gets the patient out of seizures at a comparable speed then why would we not?
  18. Not sure if my school will let me pick a specific preceptor, but I'm nearing the time where I will start my field preceptorship. Wondering if any ACPs in Ontario were wanting to have a student? Location in the province isn't really that much of an issue for me. Sure the school will find me a preceptor, but I think it would be interesting to find someone on here.
  19. What is a good place to find prices for all the different drugs we carry?
  20. I'd be more inclined to stare at the monitor in disbelief at such a high rate for a while personally
  21. I know...
  22. Yeah, it's a well documented fact that the material they are made out of shrinks as time goes on.
