  1. This is probably the best thing anyone has said in this thread yet.
  2. That's exactly my point. Why should you let it happen for a little fun volunteering while in high school though? Here's a fun fact for everyone: In 2005, with 1,479 calls they used 1,370 oxygen masks.
  3. Wait till they get PTSD or a volunteer career ending back injury and ask them how much fun they are having.
  4. I drove drunk, so I think that it is fine to drive drunk! [spoil:4032568544][sub:4032568544]I didn't, in fact drunk drivers really annoy me, but the above was meant to show how you made an argument with nothing to back it up except that you did it.[/sub:4032568544][/spoil:4032568544]
  5. I apologize for being unclear with my double negatives in the previous post. I think that these kids could make a fine EMT in terms of technical skills.
  6. One thing I will add to my previous post is that I don't doubt that these kids are more competent than the average EMT (not that that says a lot). But regardless of maturity, a 16 year old is not old enough to respond to 911 calls in an ambulance.
  7. Remind me never to go to Darien, Connecticut.
  8. The minimum for EMT-B is approximately 120 hours.
  9. Before turning him in, why not talk to him first? That would give him a chance to stop cheating (and possibly turn himself in).
  10. What schools in Canada offer a BSc in Paramedicine other than U of T?
  11. If you take EMT-B in the United States, it will generally be useless in Canada. If you do EMT-P in the United States, it is possible to get equivilency for ACP, but it is difficult and you would be much better served by just going to school in Canada.
  12. Good, keep it that way. If I were you I would check out Holland College in PEI. I don't know anyone who has done their PCP program, but I have a friend doing ACP there right now and he says that it is a great school.
  13. The United States? Sure, there will be some good schools, but if you are seeking an education then stay in Canada. Please take some time to read about EMS in the United States before even considering moving there. (And if you just want to go to school there and then come back here easily you can forget that too.)
  14. Don't move to the United States for EMS.
  15. High school pre-meds? Wow, and I thought that first year undergrads calling themselves "pre-meds" was BS.
  16. A question for those of you who have been supportive of ballistic vests: With the benefits in ambulance crashes and never really knowing when violence might strike, would you wear a vest if working in a small city of approximately 30,000? What about in a rural area?
  17. I'm a bit confused with part of your plan. When you go to this community college, does it award you some type of Bachelor-level degree? You will need that before medical school. I also don't think that you can minor in something while studying medicine, but maybe you meant that you wanted to minor in criminal justice in undergrad. A school that has a good school for ER doctors will be any medical school that you can get into when the time comes
  18. If they just want to put you on drugs then I'm guessing you've seen a psychiatrist in the past? A psychologist might be more the thing. There are many options that do not involve drugs.
  19. Aside from the possibly leaving equipment issue, wouldn't the ED staff need to be trained to use the AP? I know that it may be relatively simple to use, but this training could be a big process depending on the size of the ED. And yes, I understand that the medics will still be there when it is being used, but the patient has been passed to ED staff so they really shouldn't be using equipment that they have no been trained on.
  20. If it is the stigma associated with it that is preventing you from seeing a psychologist, my advice would be to swallow your pride and just do it. I know that this is easier said than done, but what you have gone through seems to warrant proper professional help.
  21. If it weren't for the high Canadian dollar and international student tuition rates I would say to come to Canada. Actually, just come to Canada anyway.
  22. This thread from a different forum may help you a bit. IIRC from it, the general answer was that it depends mainly on whether or not your seizures are under control.
  23. I can't speak to the specific study here, but I believe that it is often common practice that EMS study equipment (e.g. an ITD) use to be discontinued upon arrival at the hospital.
  24. I'm not saying that it is right (I don't agree with it) and in my opinion, it definitely makes your whole department seem unprofessional. The point I was making though is that it is one thing to say that what he is doing is "wrong" in the opinion of most people, but it becomes an entirely different thing when accusations of rape start being made. An easy solution would be for you to just leave the volunteer agency.
  25. That is only if we make the assumption that they are having sex.
