  1. I am lucky enough to have a paramedicine degree available to me. Since I am hoping to eventually to become a lieutenant or captain in the fire service I have also been considering a business degree of some sort. Thanks for the advice guys. I look forward to telling you about my achievements as I get into this field. I also look forward to you setting me straight as I make mistakes.
  2. As most of you know, I want to be a paramedic/firefighter. I do, however, want to get a Bachelor's degree. Does anyone have any suggestions for bachelor's degrees I can get to help me in EMS? I have looked into Excercise Physiology degrees and also a paramedicine degree, but again I am hoping for a degree that is more broadly applicable. Thanks for your time and help~! -Cad

  4. That was a cool video!
  5. I read about that a while ago. Apparently there was also some thought given to the concept of making Narcan autoinjectors available to people who have family addicted to drugs, so they can be used similarly to an epi-pen. Personally I wonder how many lives could be saved with it, or if it would make families and addicts more lenient. Like they wouldn't try as hard to get off the drug/go to rehab??? What are your guys thoughts on that?
  6. So, how many quarters does the karaoke machine take?
  7. Gets tools to fix the vending machine. *puts in a quarter*
  8. Thank you guys! I will! Maybe I'll try my hand at a few scenarios, see what I can learn from that?
  9. Which is why the smart people live in the countryside with guns.
  10. I think I have this figured out. A junctional rhythm can occur when the sinoatrial node's conduction path (?) is blocked, and so the heart receives its impulse to beat from the atrioventricular node. If the heart rate is over 60 bpm, it is an accelerated junctional rhythm, that "commonly supersedes a clinically bradycardic sinus node." An ectopic rhythm is an irregular heart rhythm due to a premature heart beat.
  11. I thought that was pretty cool. But I wonder how many medics/EMTs would be staffing it.
  12. So, p-waves indicate the electrical stimulation of the atria to pump blood into the ventricles. When they're inverted, it means that the rhythm is junctional or ectopic. I will be back when I figure out what ectopic and junctional mean.
  13. Hmm...let me read some more on it, Doc, and I'll see what I can come up with.
  14. Okay, so the P-wave is when the atria contract, or atrial polarization. If it's inverted it could mean a premature heart beat, or that the atria aren't contracting. Is this a precursor of an MI?
  15. Okay, so P-waves are related with the atria, right? So what does it mean when they're 'inverted'?
  16. So, being a comic artist, I have finally decided to make a paramedic comic book. As of right now, I hope to release it during EMS week this year. Here is the basic premise: Title: "While We Sleep" The idea is that the comic book will illustrate all the things a paramedic does 'while we sleep', mostly to show that medics are on the job helping people when we are just going about our lives oblivious to what they're doing. I don't want this book to be something that has a lot of mistakes in it, as it's being made in appreciation to paramedics and EMTs. So, will you guys give me a hand? What would you most like to see a paramedic doing portrayed in a comic book? What mistakes would frustrate you the most? Any scenarios you think should be specifically portrayed? Thanks for your help! If you have any questions feel free to ask!
  17. I'm not a medic, but what's with all the flattened P-waves? is that what I am looking at?
  18. It is pretty funny, but for people looking for something more along the lines of Cops, they should watch the UK show HELP. It's actually pretty good.
  19. That Vincent was a damn good son. (Note: I'm joking. )
  20. My fellow high school paramedic wanna-bes of EMTCity, what say you we post our adventures in this thread; how we get involved in EMS and prep for our future as paramedics? I know that there are quite a few high schoolers lurking out there and sometimes its hard to but into the grown-ups conversations (especially when we don't know what half the words/abbrevs mean). So spit it out! Your questions, thoughts, ideas....share your fave EMS videos or pictures or just chat about how terrible Emergency! is.
  21. The other day my grandmother (Who works at a church) was typing up the newsletter for the church members. But instead of Sunday, she put, "Sinday Mission".... Lol grandmas.
  22. Apparently the UK version of the show is funnier and more realistic towards the job.
  23. I will be attending classes at a community college starting next year so I will be able to see what it's like to go to college and work part time. Hopefully then I will me able to figure out how to make things work when I'm out and on my own. Thanks again for all your help.
