  1. I stand corrected. 18 days then. The point remains the same. Our college here offers a fast track EMT program that lets students do it all in one semester. While that is fine for the exceptionally bright and dedicated among us, it's still too much too fast for most people. I'm opposed to it being offered to the general public. The fail/dropout rate backs my feelings on that. Now there is an 18 day course saying they will gladly cram a year's worth of education down your throat in two and a half weeks. Plus give you a night on the town! There is no way to retain that much information in such a short time unless your name begins with Stephen and ends with Hawking. I cringe when I hear an EMT say, "O2 stat". I hang my head when these fast track EMTs can't tell me what SAMPLE, OPQRST and DCAP-BTLS mean. These are the people that are running calls to our nursing homes where the CNAs and LPNs have grandma on a NRB at 3lpm. Instead of our field advancing and becoming more respected, it's being made to look like a caveman can do it. How are we supposed to gain the public's trust and the respect of the medical community if we are reduced to an 18 day class? It's insulting.
  2. To be honest, those quick classes like that are insulting to me. I spent a year going to night school to get my EMT license. I studied and learned all I could. Then I spent another year and a half going to school on the weekends to get a paramedic license. Not to mention all the clinical hours (thousands) spent away from my wife and kids just so I could do this job. Now someone wants to offer an EMT license with just 18 hours of class. How the hell are we supposed to be taken seriously in the medical community with crap like that? We're trying to raise standards, public perception, status and pay. This crap is nothing but a roadblock to us. Shame, shame, shame on them. That's what I think.
  3. Fair enough. But remember, a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters for a million years will eventually type the great American novel. I agree 100% that fire and EMS don't belong together. By the same token, I know some great fire medics. So I can't bash everything they say without thinking it through. Without getting into that debate here, I shall only reaffirm my position that this is a great idea.
  4. I don't get the argument. I believe she addresses the issue of documentation with the legislation. This is a freaking great idea. Aren't you sick of hearing, "Do I have to make a copy of that every time they go out"? Yes. Yes you do. But they don't. Many of those NH people would rather prolong someone's suffering than add to their own list of things to do. I won't threadjack this with my contempt for nursing homes. I am saying that I'm for the idea and I will support it. If Joe Blow wants to wear a DNR bracelet as some sort of macabre fashion statement, then he is too stupid to be worth resus anyway. One or two of those in the news would stop that fad in its tracks. I'm not completely opposed to some sort of marker for communicable diseases either. NH aren't real quick to share that little tidbit either, are they?
  5. Amen brother. I'm all for the eye for an eye thing. I bet it would stop a lot of the craziness here in the States. Hurt someone, get hurt. Kill and be killed. Rapist and pedophiles get their peckers cut off. Steal something and work for who you stole it from till it's paid for. Does anyone think that won't work? If so, why?
  6. Got to be the beta blocker.
  7. I'm taking the practical in the morning for paramedic registry. Normally not as nerve racking as the CBT, but I finished paramedic school a year and a half ago. Due to some extreme circumstances, I'm just now getting to the test. Although I have been working a BLS unit in the interim, I haven't looked at some of this stuff in a long time. I've been cramming this weekend like you wouldn't believe. Anyway, for those of you that believe in the power of prayer, and are inclined to do so, please take ten seconds to say a little one that I may have recall of the things I need. Thanks.
  8. Physostigmine I think is the antidote. Same as for atropine OD. We don't have it on our units, do you? Only thing I can think to do is give a binder (charcoal) or flush out what might be left in the stomach. Either way, these kids are farked up.
  9. Okay, we don't carry the antidote to Nightshade in the unit. So what's the course of action? Activated charcoal? NG tube? Both? Or just high flow deisel?
  10. I just heard two days ago that there were two states that did not recognize daylight savings time. I don't remember what they are.
  11. I've never heard of phenergan as an antihistamine either. I'll be looking into that. As far as tx goes: epi IM, albuterol or duoneb updraft and prepare to intubate if no improvement seen. I've heard all the Benadryl allergy arguments, but I'm not willing to stake the kid's life on what my theory is. Diphenhydramine is out unless MC orders it. High flow deisel. Just looked it up. Promethazine is contraindicated in peds prehospital. Otherwise might be a good idea.
  12. Mushrooms?
  13. OTC stuff would be easily accessible.
  14. Check their pockets. Any dope or maybe a rag used for huffing? Do a quick look on the monitor for both. If both have same or similar dysrhythmia, it's definitely ingestion of something bad. Any chemicals/fertilizers around the pool or garden?
  15. Agreed. Looks like a third degree AV block to me. Could try dopamine and epi, but I'd prolly pace em.
  16. O2 3-6 lpm NC EKG What does the 12 lead say?
  17. Maybe. Remember, no one has presented proof of this yet. I was hoping someone else had found out something I hadn't heard. This may or may not be true, so I'm reserving my outrage until we find out one way or the other. It has begun to pop up other places on the net, so now we need to see if it gets suppressed or responded to.
  18. Just to clarify... I'm not trying to be a smartass with the post above. The point is that why would government involve itself in a service that you can get naturally for free anytime you want?
  19. Anyone ever notice that big flaming ball of gas is the sky? I hear it'll give a pretty good tan. You don't need permission to use it either. At least until the government figures out a way to tax it.
  20. Hell, a store credit would be just fine!
  21. Here it is. For clarification, I don't know anything about this talk show or its host, but the guy that forwarded this to me is quite brilliant. One of two things has to happen with this information. Either the government needs to be revolted against and reclaimed by We the People, or if this is false, the guy hosting this show needs to be imprisoned for spreading it. Here it is. Research it and judge for yourself. From the Hal Turner Show Beijing, China- Sources at the United States Embassy to Beijing, China have just confirmed to me that the United States of America has tendered to China a written agreement which grants the People's Republic of China an option to exercise Eminant Domain within the USA as collateral for China's continued purchase of US treasury notes and existing currency reserves! The written agreement was brought to Beijing by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and was formalized and agreed to during her recent trip to China. This means that in the event the US government defaults on its financial obligation to China, the Communist government of China would be permitted to physically take- inside the USA - land, buildings, factories, perhaps even entire cities to satisfy the financial obligations of the US government. Put simply, the Feds have now actually mortgaged the physical land and property of all citizens and businesses in the United States. They have given to a foreign power their constitutional power to "take" all of our property as actual collateral for continued Chinese funding of US deficit spending and the continued carrying of US national debt. This is an unimaginable betrayal of every man, woman and child in the USA. An outrage worthy of violent overthrow. I am endeavouring to obtain images or copies of the actual document, but in the interim, several different sources both in the US and China have confirmed this to me. End. There it is ladies and gentlemen. Again, I hope it's not true, but I do not put anything past our politicians. Do you? Comments?
  22. Sorry, didn't know that. It doesn't have anything to do with alternative energy. That's just an explanation of where the post came from. It's about our government giving eminant domain of our land to China in exchange for their continued funding of our out of control spending. In essence, the U.S. Is now mortgaged to China. I'll get the post copied and posted here today.
  23. My hobby is trying to develop alternative sources of energy and improve on the sources we have. I am a member of several alternative energy forums. The founder of one of the forums is a legend in the field of vaporizing carburetors. Tonight he forwarded a message to us that, if true, could spark a revolution in this country. It may be time to stock one of those whacker packs that everyone is making fun of. I hope this is not true, but it certainly warrants investigation. Here is the link. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/alfvaporizer/message/3624
