It's interesting how each hospice is different. When my Aunt, Uncle and Father passed on at home they didn't want any of the multiple forms of different narcotics back. In fact they were very nonchalant about them. I had my mom watch each time as I flushed thousands of dollars worth of meds.

I didn't know I worked with you once.

My post was towards Paraloco Vent, I have no doubts about your qualifications.

So you are a CCEMT-P, or a RN, BSN, CCRN, CEN, CFRN? You know how to administer all the medications carried on most flight services. KCl? CaCl? Vec Or Sux? Your familiar with NICU transfers? You know how to place and maintain chest tubes? You know how to adminster blood?

Dust I believe you under treated this patient. I believe the standard practice for this situation also includes a firm kick in the ass. -
Helpful Hints for SKILLED Nursing Facilities

Thank you Ventmedic, that sight was really informative. I had always wondered why they place uncuffed trachs, now I know why. Not only that I now know they are called Moore tubes. I gotta to thinking reading this thread that I never have had a patient pull a cuffed tube, only the uncuffed types. Good post, it shows we are never to old to learn something new. This old dog just learned a new trick. Maybe we should have weekly learning posts from specialties outside EMS. We have Doczilla, ER Doc, Ventmedic, and a bunch of RN's. It would be nice to learn something new every week. That is of course if y'all have the time and patients to put up with us. -
Books are good but I have worked with some real podunk FD's, that turned a small fire into a full blown structure fire. The best thing to bring to those.....Hot dogs!

Here ya go T, I should warn you the price is going to gouge into your beer budget. Wenger

I might end up getting flamed for this, but I don't think its that bad of idea. Especially if you are transmitting it to the ED prior to arrival.

Black Friday........What a special time for EMS!

I wouldn't go through that crap if they were selling Shania Twain for $1.99. That just shows how nuts our society has become. Consumerism at its zenith. -
I never said you had to swap spit with them turbo. I just said you should think before you open that hole in the middle of your face. You'll learn someday though , but I give up.

When I was just a wee probie Volunteer FF we were at our second practice fire. We were finished up so it was time to let the house burn. So the house is going up real nice with a lot of heat. Someone looks over and one of the Senior (read Macho, Stud, Firegods) FF's had parked one of the tankers to close to the house. All the paint on the front fender and door was bubbling! It was awesome to see the all the Senior FF's tripping over each other to move that tanker.

I wasn't thinking anything bad either. I'm married I know what it's like. What did she do let you have the remote control for the night? Watch other channels besides one of the ovary channels? Whoa! Did you actually get to watch the Dallas/Jets game? Hell that's more than I got to do.

Imagine a member of the Media or a member of the public reading what you posted. How do you think they will view EMS? Making flippant statements to your partner is one thing, but be warned even those can end up burning you. In this case you posted it on professional website. You referred to incapacitated people you are taking care of as "stinky lizards." I have made rude statements, but yours crossed over the line. Your statement was so over the line, if I was your partner I would kick you off my truck. If I was your supervisor I would write you up. I have seen and written up people for saying less and one person over hearing it. You said it and thousands of people can read it. Including the media, patients, patients families, other medical professionals, and future employers. Let me ask you a question how many apps have you filled out and they asked for an E-Mail address. Yet they never have contacted you by E-mail? You wanna know why they want your E-Mail? Let's see Fireguard69... <Fireguard69@yahoo.com> Firehouse Forums The Watch Desk EMT City Florida Today International Association of Crusty Old Jakes MySpace - Zuke From your MySpace I could post about fifty different things alone. Including where you live, your schools, your groups, your blog, quotes like "I am from New Jersey. I curse - a lot. I say "go fuck yourself," and I say it often cause Im big and buff and you are small and inferior.", etc. Do you understand now why you might want to watch what you say on a public forum? None of that came from info on this site. I just googled your screen name. More and more employers are doing checks like I just did. They take that E-Mail address you gave them and search forum entries to see what your thoughts are. Still standing behind the "stinky lizards" comments?

I think using the line "I worked lizard slinging, cause they all stunk to high heaven.." goes a little beyond protecting private patient information.

First question. What the hell am I doing in Texas? Whipped.

You know those "lizards" are human beings. They are someones mother, father, grandfather, grandmother, brother or sister. They have lived through the Depression, WWII, Vietnam, and a 1,000 things you will never know. That elderly man might have been a Medic at Bastogne or a Teacher that was loved by his students. That elderly lady might have worked at Boeing during WWII and helped build planes that won the war. She might have been the mother of a soldier killed in Vietnam. My point is that these people are not happy being "stinky" and old. They are proud people who deserve our respect. Would you want someone referring to your Grandmother as a lizard? It's time for EMS to grow the f*ck up and quit using derogatory terms when referring to the elderly, they deserve a sh*t load more respect than that. Off Soapbox

Referring to standing orders/protocols on a call?
Scaramedic replied to vs-eh?'s topic in General EMS Discussion
We have printed drug cards in our drug kits, used mostly for peds.. Occasionally I look up something in for unusual cases, say a transvestite with a foreign object wedged up their anus who is showing signs and symptoms of organophosphate poisoning who just rammed their car into a parade killing an elephant, a clown, and three lemurs. -

Do you I need to bring up this guy again... ...and just for the record, non-emergency transfer service. -
One further thought as far as safety goes. I do my report in the back of my rig, help the crew move the patient to their stretcher and then let them have the patient. Homey don't do hot loads. I am 6'3" those blades are just a little close to my head for comfort.

Wow, in all my years I have never had a problem with flight crews. No ego trips, no fights over care, nothing. In fact the only time I have ever seen a problem was between a fire crew and a flight crew when I was third riding for my Medic. Fire Paramedic didn't feel an unresponsive trauma needed a tube. Flight crew arrived and went to intubate and found the patients trachea was completely severed from hitting the steering wheel, no seatbelt. Patient arrested soon after while a cric was being set up. Flight crew was understandably pissed at the FD who was bagging the patient and not noticing the air was just going into the neck (SQ emphysema). Screaming and cursing ensued. We were finished with helping out with the other pts and watched the hilarity. Oh, in case your wondering it was a call outside our district and in Fire's territory so we were not involved except for helping with other patients. Fire wanted the really cool trauma. It was cool to see SQ emphysema though. Snap crackle pop.
