  1. WTF?!?!?!? "Older"...seriously....?
  2. You simply are NOT going to find work as an EMT in Afghanistan or Iraq. I see you are a firefighter...that is a better option for you as it will be much easier to find positions which are hiring. Over the past few years there have been very rare postings for an EMT B and I have advertised those when I see them. As I expected, they ended up NOT hiring EMTs as they are useless in this area. The scope of an EMT has nothing to offer here that a person trained in first aid can not do. At a bare minimum, you need Intermediate which some of the security companies will hire. With those positions you are a shooter first, EMT second. Other than those high risk positions which also typically require security/military/weapons experience, you will not find work as a Basic.
  3. Actually Ruff, I consulted several different versions. Why don't you start with the one you have in your house, check the things I listed and then go from there. That will keep a discussion going...or I can plaster some links like Crotchity and leave it at that. And Crotchity, when you said you listed the Big 10 "for starters" and then I countered it and you respond with well there are others....typically when defending a position in a debate/discussion, you lead with your irrefutable heavy hitters...if you had other sources which were more valid/relevant, that is what you should have lead with. I am attending a conference for the next 4 days in Dubai and will not be around as much as usual. Do not take my silence as a sign other than simply not being available. And please do not threaten to take your toys and go home because the game is not being played as you think it should. Sticking your fingers in your ears while closing your eyes and singing loudly does nothing to promote discussion or understanding. This is the majority of the problem in my opinion to start with of the defining differences between those of faith and those not of faith.
  4. I was waiting on this... Love it. Do not like what you read or interpret...make a version you agree with. Been happening since the first scribes started translating and "improving" over the years; which has led to more confusion than ever.
  5. People who make statements like this have never studied the Ten Commandments or American History. Only 3 of the 10 have relevance to American law...theft, perjury and homicide. (Adultery and Sabbath laws still exist in some states but are artifacts of theocracy. The first 4 Commandments have NOTHING to do with ethics or moral behavior. 1. Spoken by Elohim (which is plural for the god El) and states no other gods before me and establishes himself as "Lord" of the Israelites....not the USA. Last I checked, in the USA we are free to worship one god, many gods or no god; nor does Elohim appear in any of the founding documents. 2. Dont make a graven image...ironically the graven image of the 10 commandments is displayed in many locations. Anyways, this commandment violates free speech, pure and simple. And how do Catholics deal with this...???? Their houses are chock full of images/gods, saints, virgins, etc. Oh wait, never mind...I forgot the Catholic Church actually tried removing the 2nd commandment by removing this one and cutting the last one into two so there would still be 10 total!! 3. Dont take his name in vain. So we are preventing criticism of an elected official? This is undemocratic and contrary to free speech. 4. Remember the sabbath. Well if we follow biblical law, about 15 million Americans deserve capital punishment. So these 4 all seem to be religious edicts, NOT moral guidelines. Absolutely nothing to do with how we treat each other or ethics. So do these 4 have an official place in a country that "shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion"? So far, we are 0 out of 4 in proving/disproving our laws came from 10 rules on a stone. 5. Honor mom and pops "that thy days may be long". Now what is confusing here is this is the first rule where we are approaching morality...but it gives no instruction on how to honor them. Do we obey everything? For how long? Until they die? Basically they are just saying respect your folks, which is cool but it is simply a variation of the respect authority message all throughout the bible. I just hate there are no caveats for parents who belong to whacky religions, parents who beat you, parents who takes advantage of you, molest you etc....apparently I still need to respect them. And the whol that thy days be long bit...more about self interest than human value. 6. No killing yo! Finally, it took us to #6 before we got to the first truly genuine moral statement. But crap, it tells us nothing about capital punishment, self defense, war or euthanasia for the terminally ill! God was pretty bloodthirsty himself, but this is more of a do as I say thing not a do as I do. Historically, there were bans on murder long BEFORE Moses got the rule book, before the Israelites existed and it is quite asinine to think the human race could not figure out killing was bad until it was written on a stone. 7. No adultery. While a good idea...it is NOT against the law!! See that, no law against adultery. But if it were a law...does it really warrant the death penalty??? (the scorned may think so but that does not dictate law). But I am pretty sure Leviticus 20:10 states both parties get put to death. Anyways, adultery is a broken promise between two adults (or more) and has absolutely NOTHING to do with a government. I did notice the 10 rules avoid rape, incest...something more useful would have been "dont beat your wife, or dont have sex with a spouse if you knowingly have an STD)...you know, stuff more relevant to today which an all knowing certainly would have had the foresight of. Also, back in this day, women were property of men...so adultery is more theft anyways. But seriously, sleeping with someone else is part of the Big 10??? Our hang ups on sex just go back way too far and too deep. 8. No stealing cause its MINE! This is good advice and is a good law. If it aint yours dont take it, except in wartime. But wait, is this absolute? What if I am poor and I steal some bread to feed my kids? Are there no exceptions? Anyways, another law that makes sense, however it did not take the tablets to inform us of this. Laws existed prior to this great revelation and again to imply we would not know otherwise until it appeared is asinine. 9. No bear false witness. It is a good principle...simply put "Dont tell lies" but there is NO universal law in America prohibiting the telling of tales. Perjury and false advertising sure...but there are times we lie to protect people. During wartime it is virtuous to lie. So chick named Rahab in Hebrews protected some Israeli spies by lying and was rewarded. True morality is weighing and comparing the merits of the consequences of one action against another. Little flexibility.... The bible never allows for ethical dilemmas, just too absolute. History (pre biblical history) has shown repeatedly that stealing, lying and the value of honesty was a big deal...with or without the Big 10. 10. Do not covet neighbor's house, wife, ox, ass...etc. If there were any law based on this rule, the entire free market would collapse. (Notice the wife is property again). Anyways, command me to not covet??? WTF over? If STEALING is wrong, there is no need to have a law about coveting...because no matter how much I covet, I wont steal. But apparently, it is now immoral for me to say, "Hey Crotchity, you got a ncie house, sure would like it for myself". So to summarize, we have 10 rules: 4 are religious edicts 3 are one dimensional prohibitions which are irrelevant to modern law 3 are shallow absolutes which are useful but not unique to the Judeo-Chrsitian system. But wait!!! Are these the REAL 10 commandments??? Come on you religious scholars....this is what you believe in right? This is what our country is founded on right? This is what all of our laws are based on right? Do not shrug your shoulders and say someone else can figure it out or someone else already has. You should take responsibility and know for yourself what it is you profess to believe or know. That is being honest to oneself. Time for bible history lesson readers, if you are still with me thus far.... The above 10 rules came from Exodus and they were never called the 10 commandments. Moses went up the mountain, came down empty handed and said he was told these things (1-10) listed above. Moses went up a second time and returned with the tablets which he smashed (even though it was an original handwritten note from god)...such disrespect. Moses went up a 3rd time for a replacement and which god told him would be identical to previous list. This 3rd trip brought down the stones and this is the ONLY set referred to as 10 Commandments formally. So it is the stones from this last trip which are formally referred to as the 10 Commandments...pay attention folks. 1. No worshiping others (same as first 10 rules) 2. No molten images (same same except maybe graven is ok now?) 3. Feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep (What?) 4. Six days work, rest on seventh (another match) 5. Observe feast of weeks (What? When is this?) 6. Thrice in the year shall all your menchildren appear before the Lord God. (Boys only? how do they get up there every 4 months??) 7. Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven. (Huh? What?) 8. Neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left until the morning (Meat spoilage right?) 9. The first of the firstfruits of thy land shalt bring unto the house of the Lord thy God. (Whew...this only applies to farmers so we are off the hook!!) 10. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk. There ya go folks! Those are the 10 Commandments per your book! There is a 20% match with Exodus. Evidently the rules changed between visits, god forgot what he said to start with, homicide, theft perjury, adultery...it is all ok now! Enjoy! No where does it state these are add ons.... So please Crochity and anyone else....please do your own independent research and get back to me with an educated/informed reply and tell me how in the world are our laws based on those 10 Commandments?
  6. Yes, I was texting and walking and fell in a fountain...someone MUST be responsible but it is NOT me! http://news.yahoo.com/video/us-15749625/fountain-lady-nobody-went-to-my-aid-23909987
  7. Has there ever been a theocratic government in which non-believers and blasphemers were not threatened with any of fines, torture, imprisonment or death?
  8. "If anyone comes to me and does not HATE his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters--yes, even his own life--he cannot be my disciple." Jesus, Luke 14:26 Matthew 5:22 "22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister[a] will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’[c] is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell." Luke 22: 36 "36 He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one." (Take up arms for violence???) John 2:15 "15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables." (Wow, he got a whip and whipped them all out of the area, even threw some tables over in anger) Matthew 10:34 "34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword." Deuteronomy 23:2 says that bastards can not attend church unto the tenth generation. If Jesus was spawned by Mary and Jehovah as the Bible claims then he is technically a bastard and should not be the leader of the church. Yep...all about love and acceptance...these were just a SMALL sample of the many examples and no they are not out of context. And I do have two other points for discussion as they both creep into the religion/politics arena. 1. For those who see no harm in a little mingling of politics and religion, why are you so insistent that churches/religious groups be exempt form taxes? Cake and eat it too eh? 2. If 20% of all pregnancies end in spontaneous abortion (miscarriage), does that make God the greatest abortionist of all since he is the one who controls, creates and plans everything...right? Or was the abortion necessary to teach that particular woman a lesson in humility or to prep her for the next great plan or to better appreciate what she has or will have further down the road? Serious questions....
  9. The origin of the word golf is... Does it Stand for "Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden"? Did the word "golf" originate as an acronym for "gentlemen only, ladies forbidden"? That's a common old wives' tale. Or, in this case, more likely an old husband's tale. No, "golf" is not an acronym for "gentlemen only, ladies forbidden." If you've ever heard that, forget it immediately. Better yet, find the person who told you and let them know it's not true. Like most modern words, the word "golf" derives from older languages and dialects. In this case, the languages in question are medieval Dutch and old Scots. The medieval Dutch word "kolf" or "kolve" meant "club." It is believed that word passed to the Scots, whose old Scots dialect transformed the word into "golve," "gowl" or "gouf." By the 16th Century, the word "golf" had emerged. Sources: British Golf Museum, USGA Library Sources: http://golf.about.com/cs/historyofgolf/a/hist_golfword.htm
  10. What a farking idiot...so glad I am not a citizen there but as an American with a vested interest in how America works outside my own little bubble...this is just wrong! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_alabama_governor_christians;_ylt=Ajpti3uNgMNhGEIIRdhST9n9xg8F;_ylu=X3oDMTNjcjI0dHMxBGFzc2V0Ay9zL2FwL3VzX2FsYWJhbWFfZ292ZXJub3JfY2hyaXN0aWFucwRjY29kZQNtcF9lY184XzEwBGNwb3MDNARwb3MDNARzZWMDeW5fdG9wX3N0b3JpZXMEc2xrA25ld2FsYWdvdmp1cw--
  11. For your EMT, check the nremt site as suggested. Regarding fire certs...you are in a good position because of Florida's heavy clock hour training with fire standards, a FL fire grad can get recognized in most states whereas anyone transferring to FL from out of state would have to redo the academy. Very few out of state fire academies meet or exceed FL's required hours for standards and a lot of states do not make one be certified prior to employment as they prefer to train them after hired or it is civil service exam (larger cities). Did you send off for your Pro Board recognition after graduating the academy? If not, do so right away, that recognition will help you as well.
  12. Not enough information to say but I probably would NOT have upgraded. What is the past medical hx? What were the vitals? Does the pt have hx of CP? If so, the nurse was managing it appropriately. Would turning on the lights and sirens actually benefit the patient's situation? No. Would the time saved be of benefit? No. Would the risk for all involved be increased significantly for no major benefit? Yes.

Speaking of which.. I'll wanna see a ME signing the death certificate, next to the body, with a blown up photo ID, and proof from at least ten witness experts that can confirm the decedent is in fact the user.. before I'll believe that anyone else has died. Including DNA evidence.

  14. When we progressed enough as a civilization and refined our skills of logic and realized our societal conventions are discriminatory and based on many of those ancient thought processes which you mentioned. Also when people realized it was ok to have a voice of dissent outside or separate from the church without fear of death or banishment.
  15. I ask you to search well documented same-sex MARRIAGES which occurred throughout certain ancient periods of European history, Greece, Rome and several parts of China. The historical data is there and these same-sex unions were taking place right around the same time the definition of marriage was being created. It was not until later on that the Church started imposing their way upon the people and then those same wills were passed onto the legal system when the legal system actually started caring about this sort of thing because prior to this, a marriage was an entirely private ceremony with little oversight or regulation. So anyways....I counter your claim that this was "ALWAYS" the definition. "Marriage is the union of two different surnames, in friendship and in love, in order to continue the posterity of the former sages, and to furnish those who shall preside at the sacrifices to heaven and earth, at those in the ancestral temple, and at those at the altars to the spirits of the land and grain" —Confucius
  16. But Doc...thats the OLD Testament...(insert sarcasm here). And since when did the Bible become the standard for all to follow? It doesn't dictate MY moral code, never has, never will. And if the Bible is homophobic and one chooses to follow its edict, then by proxy they are homophobic, no?
  17. Not sure how an adult daughter would handle you locking her up, which this girl is...but when you do let her out (can't keep her forever) what is to prevent her from finishing what she set out to do?
  18. Define "worked good" please. How many lives/careers have been destroyed by this idiotic rule? How many kick ass soldiers from our very much needed fighting force have we lost due to this rule? Also look up how many translators and high level mission essential personnel have been booted as well...you define this as "worked good"? If we waited for things to be broken before IMPROVING them, we would still be living in caves...I mean after all it, is shelter and it provided what it is supposed to...why did we go and "fix it"? Your line of reasoning is highly suspect and illogical.
  19. You did not answer what behaviors would you see or would your son be exposed which concern you? Every daycare around here has very strict guidelines on who can and cannot enter the facility. Regardless of those restrictions, why do you automatically assume if one's partner showed up there would be signs of affection? I do not always kiss my spouse when at her work and there are no kids around. Also, why would your son have uncomfortable questions when you say he is already aware of a gay brother? Should he care who knows if it is him? What does an 8 year old know of his lifestyle other than what he observes in his parental units? Again, just asking... In one sentence you say it is your and your wife's influence and in another you say he is making his own decisions. Regardless of how precocious a child is, he has absolutely zero life experience upon which to judge (approve or disapprove) of anyone's lifestyle outside of what he has heard and seen demonstrated by his immediate surroundings or family.
  20. At what point in the child care process would your child be exposed to their lifestyle? Aside from any bias you project and your child picks up on, how would they ever know? Do you think they would be ass slapping, kissing in the corner during child's nap time? How is their private sex life any different than say a mixed gender or even same gender straight staff? What prevents them from talking about how they got laid last night, or did this with that person, or whatever topic you wish too insert here. The point is, none of it is expected nor should it be tolerated in a child care environment. So what behavior exactly are you more afraid of from a gay/lesbian staff than a straight staff member? What makes you think the gay/lesbian staff would demonstrate these behaviors more so than the straight members? Are the straight people more in control and able to restrain their desires or conversations whereas the gay/lesbians will just be out of control? Just asking to gain a different perspective...
  21. IO No burns and quicker than an IV any day....
  22. FYI...the troll is on a few days break....he will be back soon.
  23. There is no clear cut answer as it varies from service to service and some may require all of which you listed and some may require none.
  24. This is very real and a very serious issue. I was shown a website by a Online Security Expert/Friend who was doing a lecture on these types of dangers. It really opened my eyes and I was shocked. There is an adult website forum which has a category called iPhone pics. In this thread are literally thousands of pictures that have been posted. All of these pictures involve female teens who have either shared these on myspace, facebook, or maybe even just to their friends...some may have been snatched form whatever device they were taken on by high tech means...in this particular forum, you get the GPS coordinates from their picture and there is also a picture of their house or surrounding area from Google Earth. Pretty scary eh? After seeing this thread, then looking at how many times it has been viewed and still continues to get posts...very scary. I have talked to my kids...have you?
