  1. Cheeky! For clarification purposes or those who ride the short bus (Phil), are there any EMS members, contractors, military, visitors, whatever that frequent this site currently in Kuwait?

    KUWAIT

Just seeing if there are any people currently in Kuwait. AK...
  3. Check with the state EMS office, then check with the county you live/work in, then ask the school you plan on attending in that order. Asking anonymously on a world wide forum, I could say yes, next person say no, and ultimately you are still in the same position as when you started.
  4. And many thanks for reviving a 4 year old thread.... He did not officially put those words in the oath because to this day, those words are not part of the presidential oath. Also, there is no evidence that he did indeed say those words. It is noted he said them after his ACCEPTANCE speech but he did not utter them after his oath taking. Huge difference. Several presidents have chosen not to take the oath and instead have done an affirmation. A few more presidents have simply said Yes I do or Yes I will which answers the oath in question as opposed to closing with so help me god. There is no p[roof that a bible was used in the majority of the oaths either. It was not a part of the process, it was personal decisions leading to those actions. One man's possible personal deviance (not even proven) from protocol does not dictate the actions of every man to follow, nor should it. This was exactly what was trying to be avoided when the Constitution was created.
  5. I need someone in the Orlando area for a job on May 24th and 25th from 0700-1300 both days. You will make $100 day. All you need to do is take vital signs, the rest will be done by your partner. If interested, PM me as I need to know before this weekend, I can not have maybes, or no shows...so please be serious!
  6. Sing out tauntingly "Mama's little bed wetter" and accuse him of always playing with his hose. I am sure you can come up with something creative, I mean we are talking hoses, lengths and diameters here. Water fairy never fails to tease. Tell them you didnt know they were firemen cause the backs of their jackets have Lazy Boy imprinted on them from sitting around or something to that effect. Q. How do you put out a fire? A. Take away one part of the fire tetrahedron, or the chief. Q. How can you tell when a firefighter is dead???? A. The remote control slips from his hand. Firefighters are so dumb they use the dogs to find the fire hydrants. Can accuse them of being so quick that they are always "fast" asleep You Might Be In A Redneck Volunteer Fire Department If.... Your department has ever had two emergency vehicles pulled over for drag racing on the way to the scene. You have naked lady mud flaps on your pumper. Your firehouse has wheels. You've ever gotten back and found out you locked yourselves out of the firehouse. Fire training consists of everyone standing around a fire gettin' drunk. You've ever been toned out on an outhouse fire. That outhouse fire was with entrapment. You've ever let a person's house burn down because they wouldn't let you hunt on their ground. At least one vehicle in the firehouse still has decorations on it from the Halloween Parade and it's January. Your personnel vehicle has more lights on it than your house has lights in it. You don't own a Dalmation, but you do have a coon dog named Sparky. You've ever walked through a christmas display and came up with more than 3 new ideas for a light scheme for your truck. Your rescue truck can smoke the tires. Your department's name is misspelled on the equipment. Your engine had to be towed in the last Christmas Parade. Dispatch can't mention your name without laughing. The local news crew won't put your department on TV because you embarassed them last time. You've ever referred to a light bar as sexy. Your defib consists of a pair of jumper cables, a marine battery, and a fish finder. You've ever taken a girl on a date in a pumper. Your pumper has been on fire more times than it has been to a fire. Your pumper smokes more than the house fire. The only time the trucks leave the station is on bingo night. This forum had some good ones...http://forums.officer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42792 Firefighter: The only job where you WAKE UP when it is time to go home. I like Dalmation Molester.
  7. This little part was snatched from WIki but is accurate. "Humanism is a democratic and ethical life stance, which affirms that human beings have the right and responsibility to give meaning and shape to their own lives. It stands for the building of a more humane society through an ethic based on human and other natural values in the spirit of reason and free inquiry through human capabilities. It is not theistic, and it does not accept supernatural views of reality." There are several types of Humanism, but it is typically not theistic. As for the In God we Trust, the God in our pledge and the other insertions...those were placed during the 1950s as a way to insult the secular nation of Russia primarily. Most Americans are under the false assumption that this is how it always has been but it was not until McCarthy got excited during his modern day witch hunt. All it takes is one fanatic to gain enough control to bend ears and then chaos ensues. Their genius idea was to insert God in money and the pledge which was pretty lame and inconsiderate of all those who make up America. Again, it simply does not belong in our legal system and I will be more than happy when it is removed. It is NOT how we always have been, it is NOT how we were founded.
  8. This sums it up nicely.... Many have argued against the separation of church and state by pointing to the Declaration of Independence. They believe that the text of this document supports the position that the United States was founded upon religious, if not Christian, principles, and therefore church and state must remain intertwined in order for this nation to continue properly. There are a couple of flaws in this argument. For one thing, the Declaration of Independence is not a legal document for this nation. What this means is that it has no authority over our laws, our lawmakers, or ourselves. It cannot be cited as precedent or as being binding in a courtroom. The purpose of the Declaration of Independence was to make a moral case for dissolving the legal ties between the colonies and Great Britain; once that goal was achieved, the official role of the Declaration was finished. That leaves open, however, the possibility that the document expressed the will of the same people who wrote the Constitution — thus, it provides knowledge about their intent as to what sort of government we should have. Leaving aside for the moment whether or not that intention should bind us, there are still serious flaws to consider. First, religion itself is never mentioned in the Declaration of Independence. This makes it difficult to argue that any particular religious principles should guide our current government. Second, what little is mentioned in the Declaration of Independence is only barely compatible with Christianity, the religion most people have in mind when making the above argument. The Declaration refers to “Nature’s God,” “Creator,” and “Divine Providence.” These are all terms used in the sort of deism which was common among many of those responsible for the American Revolution as well as the philosophers upon whom they relied for support. Thomas Jefferson, the author of the Declaration of Independence, was himself a deist who was opposed to many traditional Christian doctrines, in particular beliefs about the supernatural. One common misuse of the Declaration of Independence is to argue that it states that our rights come from God and, therefore, there are no legitimate interpretations of the rights in the Constitution that would be contrary to God. The first problem is that the Declaration of Independence refers to a “Creator” and not the Christian “God” meant by people making the argument. The second problem is that the “rights” mentioned in the Declaration of Independence are “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” — none of which are “rights” discussed in the Constitution. Finally, the Declaration of Independence also makes it clear that governments created by humanity derive their powers from the consent of the governed, not from any gods. This is why the Constitution does not make any mention of any gods. There is no reason to think that there is anything illegitimate about an interpretation of any of the rights outlined in the Constitution merely because it runs contrary to what some people think that their conception of a god would want. What this all means is that arguments against the separation of church and state which rely upon the language of the Declaration of Independence fail. First, the document in question has no legal authority with which one could make a legal case. Second, the sentiments expressed therein do not support the principle that government should be guided either by any specific religion (like Christianity) or by religion “in general” (as if such a thing even existed).
  9. And I suggest a review of our history when making quotes such as this. They were not "deeply" religious and they did their best to establish a system not impacted by any particular set of beliefs. One of the biggest incorrect statements was "this country is founded on christian beliefs". The majority of the founding fathers were Humanists. They had great values/morals and despite what most religious people say, it is very possible to be good without god. Atheists are not out raping and killing because of no god, they are simply living a good, honorable life. Humanists, atheists and those of similar mind sets live life without the expectation of reward or fear of punishment after death. They do what is right because it is the right thing to do. A sky daddy does not dictate morals or values. But anyways, back to the original topic...yes they were wrong for sending them home.
  10. I agree! Which is why there should be no religious input in our schools, healthcare or legal system.
  11. Well I hope the pregnant 16 year old girl isn't a boy....that would be weird.
  12. Here is my list and everything is flexible depending on gender/age. For now, I make assumptions. Army Capt- This is me. And I stay. In times of turmoil, we need strong leaders and we turn to those who represent authority, leadership, calmness under fire. Whether or not the Capt has those qualities, it is what most people envision when they see or hear an Army Captain. This authority will not last forver but is definitely needed until some sort of society is reestablished. Priest- Adios! Since the word Priest is used, this indicates one of the Catholic belief. There are no female priests within Catholicism, and the Church has been mingling in society's affairs way too long anyways. Time for it to go bye bye. Religion will continue based on each person's prior knowledge and some sort of new faith will emerge. It has been done over and over through earth's history, so no big loss. If there is a God, this is one of those times he would understand. 16 year old- Stays She is a risk being pregnant but we have others here who can assist. She is perfect for child bearing and has many, many useful years ahead of her from the reproductive perspective. This is important to rebuild society. Due to her youth and ability to produce, she may very well turn into an alpha queen as she will be well taken care of. By the time the child is a food burden, the farmer should have worked his magic. Also, the girl is blind and while this may be a hardship as she can not source food or help in many useful ways, the plus side is everyone will be able to get sex--even Dust! Like it or not, sex is important for the reproductive and mental well being of our survivors. Farmer: Stays I toiled with the farmer being tossed because basically everything is destroyed on earth and we would return to a scavenger mentality which anyone can do, but for now he is here. Anyways, I will operate under the assumption the farmer is able to start growing crops again based on his knowledge. Farmers are known to be hard workers, therefore his back breaking labor will come in handy with minimal complaining. He will have elevated status among the early society. Police Officer: Goes away (unless its a female) We have the Capt representing the authority, we do not need a competitor in the alpha male group in this early society. Anyone can enforce rules which will be made and enforced collectively in the early stages of this society. History Professor: Stays There is entirely too much valuable knowledge to waste but he/she is already used to teaching. He will be instrumental in the education of the new group and will pass on the basic reading, writing skills when that time comes. He is history teacher, so he may be a bit more relaxed, liberalistic in his approach (we can only hope). Prostitute: Stays Again, I am assuming female. She may still be in productive child bearing years so that is a plus. She is used to handling men, negotiating, problem solving, resolving conflict. She has many positives which can serve the new society well. She also can help the younger girl possibly with a woman's perspective. 70 year old doc: Stays I went back and forth on him as well, but I think his good will outweigh his negative. First, he is able to teach his knowledge to everyone, including the med student. While he may die soon or have health problems very soon, his knowledge can not be wasted. He is old enough to remember the good old days and pass on some common sense that we have long forgotten due to modern medicine marvels. Every group needs someone who is older but not the alpha male. He will be sought for wisdom, stories and most likely mediation with a peaceful process. He will speak softly and people will listen. He will struggle to keep up physically but again his medical knowledge is of extreme value. By the time the child is becoming "another mouth to feed" he will be on his way out. The Med student: Stays He will be the prime student for learning how to care for everyone. Not only that we will assume he is a younger male. He will be needed for his physical fitness plus he is a prime seed carrier. He may be least offended when chosen to sleep with the under age girl to make another child. The lawyer: Goes We do not need another alpha male, same as the reason we got rid of the police officer. If the lawyer is a female, then I will reconsider. In regards to laws, a lawyer is not an all knowing source of every rule on the book. In fact there are no more books. Laws existed before there was writing, someone eventually will create new arbitrary ones and write them down. There will be a new Hammurabi or Moses...we can only hope we steer towards reality and common sense as opposed to religious rule.
  13. I enjoy these types of exercises and I started to compose a response but then I said...wait a minute! You have not given me enough information. With the exception of the pregnant girl, I do not know the gender of the other people. This is a survivalist question and gender is extremely relevant regardless of their occupations. After gender, I need ages. Both of these are more crucial to my overall survival than what they did or know. Most of the respondents thus far have made assumptions on gender based on job title. Kind of like the kid that gets taken to the hospital by his dad and then the surgeon takes one look and says I cant operate as this is my son. Most people of previous generations and young kids are baffled by this one because they assume the surgeon is male as well, when it is his mom. Anyways, back to the post, I will comment if I have to based on my assumptions but if the genders are available, I want that info...otherwise I stereotype my response. And finally, if I am one of the 10...which one am I????
  14. HA HA HA HA HA!! As a mod, all IPs are displayed. I only had to compare the old one with the new one. Your paranoia about email account hacking is hilarious and I am really not concerned over your allegation other than trying to get you the right help (mental). I have NEVER accessed your account so there is no "electronic fingerprint" but nice try Venti.
  15. Hmmmmm.... Argumentative...check Expert use of quotations...check Superiority complex....check Comments displaying prior knowledge of longtime posters...check IP matching...check Welcome Back Vent...despite your threats you never stay gone.
  16. I loved Clermont...only place to see rolling hills in Florida! I actually worked over there for a brief stint...
  17. It is a simple fix. No radios/scanners in the house. Knowing nothing and going about your daily activities versus knowing just enough to make you worry to the point that is all you can think about and can't leave the radio because there might be a bit more is way more stressful. Heed my advice.
  18. Wide open at the moment...
  19. How long you there for? You are 73 miles away from me.
  20. Yes, if you are doing the job at home, then the lesson will be simple reinforcement of knowledge already gained...so what is the harm? It is for all the ones that do not have proactive or interested parents in their lives that need this foundation upon which to build so we as a society do not continue to pay for the lessons they learn the "hard way".
  21. No, I get your thoughts Dwayne, I think we are in sync on this one. I simply used your words to spin off and target others, so my comments were not directly related back at you. For those interested enough, the link provided has some great comments for pro and con. I like the one where the lady says "we teach kids how to write checks in school (hers does), does that mean we are teaching the kids to go out and write fraudulent checks?" Two topics that are severely neglected in most family discussions are Money and Sex. Keeping that in mind, can someone please tell me what the two top reasons for divorce are? Anyone...? Anyone at all? Yes that's right, MONEY and SEX! Is there a correlation here? Should we look a little deeper and see where education needs to be improved on, education is the sense of general knowledge, not just readin, ritin and rithmatic.
  22. Fixed it for ya. I agree with you Dwayne, biologically we are programmed to have sex at early ages. Unfortunately we do not have the mentality to handle that responsibly yet because we do not have the life skills at that age, we need to be taught. We teach our children everything there is about their life to help them be complete, competent, productive adults in the world yet we fail to educate them on an act that is primal in nature, a very strong desire which can have far reaching consequences that may affect them and ourselves for the remainder or their lives...foolish indeed. I am not advocating sleeping with or allowing them them to sleep around. I am advocating upfront, direct communication. This is not the one area to use cutesy names, avoid sensitive areas or to leave gaps in the education. They need to know it all and they need to hear it from the parents. If not you, I guarantee they will hear or see it from someone else. As for the constant "media exposure", do a little research on the pornographic cave art. Yes, the cavemen had many, many depictions of sex in motion. Then fast forward to the Egyptians, they had tons of sex art in your face as did the Greeks and Romans. Even the early Catholic Churches were adorned with what today would be deemed pornographic art. And these are just the pictures I am talking about, I have yet to delve into all the songs celebrating sex, or the endless erotic dances of almost every culture. Seems to me the "constant media" has been around forever...
  23. Doesn't the NREMT.org website allow you to log your con ed courses/hours in your profile? Nice way to keep track of them and when it is time to renew your registry you just hit submit. As for each state, you need to know what they require. Some states require you to mail in copies at recert time, others require a training officer to sign off saying you completed the claimed courses and then some states like Florida require you to sign a piece of paper that says you meet all the requirements and you acknowledge if/when you are audited that you will produce all claimed hours.
  24. http://www.thenewamerican.com/index.php/culture/family/2701-new-study-finds-spanking-is-good-for-kids “According to the research, children spanked up to the age of 6 were likely as..." So up to age of 6...nothing about AFTER age 6 which would be the school ages we are discussing, nothing positive about this range. The study is flawed as well, as it only asked them if they remembered open handed ass beatings. Response to above article...http://www.nydailynews.com/lifestyle/2010/01/04/2010-01-04_spanking_makes_kids_perform_better_in_school_study.html For some serious laughs, read these comments... http://christianblogs.christianet.com/1116929596.htm This one simply references the bible and says you are disobeying god if you do not spank. http://www.usingspankingdiscipline.com/ Good rules here...http://www.wikihow.com/Include-Spanking-in-Child-Discipline With ALL RESPECT Sir, every search engine churned out same articles. There is one flawed study at the top, several heavily biased "christian" articles with no scientific fact and then everything else in support of no spanking. If you have any scientific studies of how spanking is good, I am all eyes...
