  1. Bro...take DD's advice as it is same as mine. I let my NR lapse in 98 I believe it was and then I went to get it back in 2000 or 2001, cant remember. Other than reviewing the skills sheets for critical failures, I did zero preparation. Just do not over think the questions and most times the most BLS or least invasive procedure or treatment is the correct answer. I was the first one done with the exam, walked out of it feeling damn good. And no big surprise, I passed it. Remember, it is an ENTRY LEVEL examination and you my friend have knowledge that far surpasses that.
  2. Good luck buddy. Let us know how you are once you get home....
  3. Lot of "new info" eh??? At at age 20, I am assuming this is your first PHTLS class, so how did you come to the conclusion that it has lots of "new info" as compared to what you knew prior to taking the course? Do you have anything more to add to the discussion, maybe comment on some of the issues raised by other posters?
  4. Brad who??? Leave it... How bout a 500 gig external hard drive almost 90% full (surprise content)
  5. If you have state certs that will enable you to keep working, then there is no point spending money on the NR cert.
  6. I have read that analogy before, just can not remember where and in what context it was. Regardless, it is entirely relevant to the current state of EMS. Job well done mate!
  7. First, are you employed as a Basic? If so, then I think it would be worth it, otherwise you would rapidly become unemployed. Second, do you wish to prepare for worst case scenario? Say you fail NR Medic a few times...or even one time, and he next test is not available for several months. Again, the same thing, you are unemployable as you do not have either level cert. Finally, how difficult is it really to recert the card and not have to worry about any of the above? Pretty darn simple. If you are due for recert, you should have plenty of CMEs by now, certainly if you are employed. If not, there are a few quickie refresher courses out there which are relatively inexpensive.
  8. Ruff, the least expensive and most easiest accredited refresher is www.eeii.org Medic will cost you 150 dollars, you download the program, fill out the stack of questions in full sentence/explanation format and then mail it in to be graded. Yes they do grade them for accuracy and ensure you followed the instructions which state no 1-2 word answers. There is your 48 hour refresher. You can also do a few other classes online there as well. You can do ACLS online and then knock out the skills portion somewhere. You can get some JEMS magazines and fill out a few of the mail in scenarios, those are good for a maximum of 10 hours with NR.

  14. It depends on the felony, the state in which you are, and the department you wish to apply to. I know of several medics and firefighters who had charges that were not sealed or expunged and they all received jobs. One of them even had a conviction for dealing drugs, nice guy...was just stupid during his latter teen years. And yes, this was in Florida, so Flasurfbum...your answer is incorrect.
  15. Cough cough...<want to come overseas> cough
  16. I beg to differ, I have seen a few law SUITES that were focused on medical malpractice, so I am sure that covers EMS as well. However, as far as actual lawsuits, the reason you will not see or hear of too many, is because they settle out of court many, many times. Previous counties I have worked for, always settled out of court as it is much cheaper in the long run and draws much less public scrutiny.
  17. Take it, nothing like refreshing my memory files for alone time with Daisy Duke......leaving a Willy Wonka Bar
  18. Hell yeh! First he spanks the 12 out of 14 idiots that can not pass the test and now he pulls the lesser used drugs off the trucks and says he rather focus on keeping the medics in the transport units trained better than the fire medics. Read the comment as well...there is a good one about how they chose not to respond with factual evidence but rather with their union rep...LOL. And of course the usual rhetoric about how the publics lives will now be in danger. http://www.winknews.com/news/local/29644764.html

  25. Slightly out of line letmesleep...if you notice, the poster is from GA. GA does not recognize basics...if one wishes to work 911 emergencies, they have to be intermediate or higher. So kudos to at least advancing to a level to enter EMS instead of sitting around as a basic and complaining. Sorry rookie, but the humor I found is at your expense and many people today, who have no clue how to write resumes. I am not picking on you, just explaining what I found funny. It is more sad than funny, but I see it time after time. I am not that old, yet I can not fathom what people are learning or rather NOT learning in high schools today. We simply are not preparing ourselves to enter the world and succeed. A job description should be so simple. I believe it might be the same info that was in the job description for which you applied, albeit in much more detail, but there nonetheless. Of course you probably did not read your job description when you applied, because we all know what an EMT knows or does...right? Just sayin...
