  1. Males do NOT get hysterical, it is a strictly female illness...
  2. I just utilize the lesser known (possibly forgotten?) archaic remedy of treating female hysteria that was popular for many, many years.
  3. the company's website, evidently they operate in several states http://www.paffordems.com/

This is all I know, so please do not PM me with any questions. 5. I just finished reading this wonderful book and was quite moved by what it contains. For those unfamiliar, it was written by Randy Pausch who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He had the opportunity to deliver his "last lecture" which is common amongst university professors when they are retiring, however this indeed was to be his last. The book is filled with many relevant stories, quips, quotes that have great messages for people of all walks of life and from all backgrounds. It is not filled with pity me stories or mega religous overtones. The stories are short, to the point and applicable to the many facets in life which we all have or will encounter. I highly recommend getting a copy and enjoying the message within. The book is not drawn out, or too long....I was able to complete it in a 8 hour timespan as it was that interesting.
  6. Brandi...I was going to visit again but did not want it to be under the same circumstances as last time. You know you really dont need to whip up one of these storms for me to stop by....AK
  7. Funny stuff... Yeh I will be seeing ya soon.
  8. Ahhhhhh, ironically, I AM TOO!!!....LOL And I am sitting about 5 feet away from you, now I know who you are...this is funny!
  9. I had the same problem, only my doctor was female!!
  10. Send next unit due. I am allergic. No unit available, I quit.
  11. Nifedipine used to be a common drug on the ambulances is also called procardia. Lansoprazol is prevacid. Movicol is a laxative. Sachet are single dose medications individually wrapped. For example, Aussies may sometimes carry Ibuprofen and in their drug box they will have a sachet that has two tablets in it, and they just hand that to the pt instead of digging out of a big bottle. Another example of a sachet that you may be more familiar with is Goodys headache powder. Single dose individually packaged and in powder form.
  12. Not to taint this man's thread, regardless of which word you meant, you had every right to use it without the propoganda wagon coming down on you. I am sick of people getting nasty and accusing one of being non patriotical because you question the government. It is our right to question the establishment as it is the only way to keep things in check. Suddenly it becomes god bless you, bless them, religous fatwas, holy wars...only ours is more right because we say so. I will stand by the original wording, it was a useless and senseless death, there are many of them almost daily. Where are our priorities and what is the war truly about when one can not question it without be condemned by the religous right screaming homeland security and hiding under the words of this being a "war on terrorism"? And again, since I know Justin's family and friends have read this thread including a similar one posted on other websites, my intent is not to smear his name or what happened to him but to raise awareness in yet another form.
  13. Welcome. There are several of us over here that belong to this site as well. What site are you at in Iraq?
  14. Very good Teri. I was trying to jog memories for those who were still unsure of the diagnosis.
  15. Interesting. The military gets enough grief from PETA and other groups regarding the live tissue labs, so it will be interesting to see how a private business stands up to them once they become aware of this. Personally, I think the course would be a waste of time for you and your cohorts as the knowledge and experience gained from this type of course is intended for those people the course was designed for (as described on their website). As a medic who has been doing remote medicine for several years in hostile and austere environments, I can say I function quite well without the expense of this course. I feel this course will be as useful as a TEMS course for the average medical provider. If you are SWAT or police affiliated then TEMS is good for you, if you are a soldier (special forces type) then this type of course with live tissue lab is beneficial. In regards to your question, no I know nothing of this school or the course quality, but it does seem to be very lucrative for them.
  16. All I want to know is does he have a DNR or is he in asystole.
  17. Damn bro, we carry all of that...tons of it! Leave it behind it will do you no good. Plus you run the risk of being busted for having tons of non prescript meds when you stuff gets searched AK
  18. Lesser education required. For example, in Florida for one to volunteer at a FD, the minimum they need to ride on an engine is FF1. I do not know the exact hours for this particular qualification. If you want to be paid, you have to have FFII. In order for me to be FFII, I attended a college program and completed 450 clock hours so the state would recognize my level. I believe it comes down to NFPA requirements as well for regulating the different level. I am in an airport right now so I do not have my resources near by, but that is the difference in Florida and if I am not mistaken, everywhere...can anyone correct me on that?
  19. Personally, I think ego is very much needed in this profession as well as many others. It is not exclusive to EMS, ego is what drives us to be better, to do better. For whatever reason, you need to feed your ego to accomplish things. We all have varying and fluctuating levels of ego, so yes sometimes it can go a bit overboard. But in the grand scheme, we need it.
  20. That was pretty witty. But of course it was blocked for me, so I recruited the same member to tell me about this one. I think the experience benefitted them more than me after hearing what was being heard by another.
  21. Dwayne is very good for support as you will learn once you spend any amount of time here. He really enjoys sports as well, and is a huge athletic supporter.
  22. In the very thread you posted in "Rural EMS", there are over a dozen topics exactly like this one with some great information. Some of the topics are 8, 9, and 10 pages long!! Tons of useful information in there from current and past members. I strongly encourage you to read those and then respond from one of those threads. Welcome to the site and do not forget about our useful "Search" feature at the top of the page that will guide you to other useful threads on just about any topic you can think of.
  23. Jensen Beach is in Martin County on the east coast of FL. Three counties, Martin, Palm Beach and Broward are very active counties with a lot of growth and a lot of money. They also pay well. They tend to set their wages high which forces smaller, adjoining counties to raise their wages to be competetive. The IAFF has this tactic locked down and are superior players in the game at contract time. Here is the current wage setup for their openings in effect now. Job Title Department Hiring Range Max Posted Close FIRE RESCUE CHIEF EMERGENCY SERVICES $68,351 $102,550 $136,749 07/28/08 08/07/08 FIREFIGHTER EMT EMERGENCY SERVICES $41,065 $55,650 $70,234 07/09/08 08/04/08 If you notice, EMT/FFs start around 41K a year. Fire medics can typically add 6K on to that figure and that is their starting wage. Considering the cost of living in these counties, these wages are no different than someone making 26K a year in rural Alabama. Most medics still work second jobs and/or massive overtime. With a department as large as this one, OT is always available. The 100K figure which the letter writer tossed out is a figure he came up with based on stories he has heard in regards to overtime OR he is adding the total cost of the employee. A lot of people do that during contract time and a lot of people forget the total cost of their actual position. When you factor in insurance, disability, workmans comp, taxes, etc...the total salary of any one employee is typically 20-40K more on paper than what the employee actually signs up to earn. I also know this letter writer likes to stir the pot and has done so many times over the years past. Also, he kept sayng EMTs, when almost every apparatus within these counties has at least one MEDIC on board. Sorry Ruff, I do not think being a FireMedic in this system is in your future...
  24. Very impressive and also a shame. I do not see how a student could make it through without a negative mark. Every one of my stellar students received something negative at one time or another. Anyways, congrats on your new title. Keep an open mind, never stop learning/studying, and avoid complacency and the "know it all" attitude and you will do just fine.
