  1. Kinks!!! Huh, what??? Where? We both ran for the helo but I tripped Dust and I left him behind...muhawhahwhawh...
  2. I am going to move this to "funny stuff" for now. The problem with your poll is you can only click one choice at a time which makes it neccesary for me to vote several times to get all areas acurately accounted for, not to mention you left off a few other choices....but oh well.

  5. Thread is locked... The only advice you will get here is go see a doctor.
  6. Whats a condom?
  7. He wasnt a minor as it happened in college per his words...unless he was like Doogie Howser or soemthing.
  8. It all depends on the city my friend. Just a handful of departments do polygraphs and it is a very outdated and stupid practice. If your record is sealed, then it is sealed. I would fess up about it if I were being subjected to a poly, however for any other job that isnt stuck in the stone age, I would not mention it. That is me personally but this is a touchy topic. A lot of people will call me out for the ethics violation, however I say you smoked pot when you were younger, you learned your lesson and you should not be deprived of the job you want for something stupid years ago. Or, you can always be truthful and frank about it. Yes, I smoked it in college, no I havent done it in years. If they pass over you, keep looking till someone decides to keep you. Whichever route you choose, be prepared to live with any adverse repucussions. But in general, no this will not prevent you from getting a job. Do you honestly believe out of the hundreds of thouosands of firefighters and medics that none of them smoked pot or got busted for it? Reality check dude...
  9. Little late Todd. Orlando's cutoff was in October but all the guys are getting notifications now for testing. Orange County always is accepting apps, but regardless, he is not eligible as he doesnt have FF II. So my best advice is to decide whether or not you want to be a medic or a FF. Yes, everyone does both in Florida but the reason I say that is that will determine which route you take to getting hired. If you want to be a FF, by all means go get FF II and start applying once completed. Just remember, FF/EMTs are a dime a dozen and the competition is fierce. If you want to be mostly medical, go get your paramedic done and then start applying. Paramedics are needed everywhere and the fact that you already have FF I would be a plus as now they only have to send you for part of the program. Paramedics are first to get hired and many departments are now offering to pay for fire training to get them on staff. Third option is to complete both and then pick which department you want to work for as your options are pretty much unlimited when you have both FF and Paramedic. Good Luck!

  11. There is an appropriate time and place for all jokes, this is not one of them.
  12. I dont think so but thanks for playing. It is a funny poem and it is appropriately placed in the funny forum.
  13. That was a legitimate question, worthy enough to continue the discussion because it is very relevant and the best you can do is insult him? Me thinks it may be someone else's head misplaced other than Ruff's. I mean really now, use some intelligence and respond accordingly. Idiots toss insults around to avoid a debate and it does nothing to make you look better. Could it be because once we turn it around from a management, safety and professional standpoint we all realize how utterly stupid and ridiculous this was? We see how unprofessional it is and know this sheds a negative light upon us. Stupid rules and regulations are created because of people like this. Ask yourself how many times have you seen a rule in place and said to yourself, "this is the most stupidest rule ever made, why would they do such a thing"? Well, now you know!
  14. What can I say....when its all you have to work with, go with it. So many badge bunnies, so little time.
  15. Dang it!!! I am so sick of this mesage(see below) Forbidden You were denied access because: Access denied by SmartFilter content category. The requested URL belongs to the following categories: Sex, Humor, MP3. Anyways, Michael usually puts this in a different format so I can view it. Are any of you out there as technically savvy as him? He is in transit right now to his new location so he is unable to do it for me, in case you guys didn't notice his absence here recently.
  16. Ok, the thread is going to be locked for several reasons. We all have made our point by now and maybe any future young members will review it and take heed. Yes, I could have made this a hypothetical and I debated back and forth before posting. However, I decided in this case tough love was best. No BSing, cut to the chase. The reason I felt so strongly is because I have immense admiration of this individual. He has so much potential and I thought if we rallied behind him with positive peer pressure, things would correct themselves. It did not quite turn out that way, so alas we must end the chat. He reminds me of myself when I was the same age, full of gusto and passion for the business. I also know the stupid things I did and I was fortunate enough to have certain mentors that I repsected steer me back on course so as not to ruin my chances at an EMS career. I have now talked with the person in question and have been corrected. I will stand here in front of you all and make a formal apology to him and take whatever comments you wish to pm my way. Evidently, I missed a "just joking" comment. He assures me that despite contemplating such a thing, he could not and would not ever do such a thing as it would ruin his chances of a nice career in EMS. I apologize to you sir, I will take you at your word. All though things have been harshly said, I hope he realizes it is only because we are passionate about our business and the fact that we are constantly trying to keep higher standards presented to the general public at all times. May all of our dedication and determination pass onto him as he is the next generation that will one day be passing it on down the line.
  17. Rural Metro and Lake Sumter EMS are your only 911 options in central FL. What??!!! You don't like COastal...lol *(sarcasm) Several other interfacilities in Central area but for emergencies you are limited to those two.
  18. Reread fromt he beginning please. This thread had nothing to do with the perks we get while on duty in uniform, it was more of a focus on an UNDERAGE person using his uniform to PURCHASE ALCOHOL!! This is why we were "casting stones" as you say.
  19. Hearsay is when you are not a direct witness to the conversation and you do not know the context. Regardless of whether he was lying or not, he gave no indication of such, therefore I have no other way to interpret his words. Let's say he didnt do it, do you still repsect him for LYING about using the uniform in such a negative light? Yes, I have judged but I have not juried or executioned as if you will notice I refuse to divulge his name and I tried to take a positive spin on this topic by having our senior members do some positive peer pressure. Anyways, it is interesting that this member has suddenly disappeared and has not posted since I did this. Embarrassment, shame??? I dont know but I certainly hope a lesson is learned and this scenario never repeats itself.
  20. Ok I missed this little tidbit when I posted. However it still stands, the direct quotes he gave is not a violation of HIPAA, however it could be a major violation of his employer's policy. Usually SOGs state all media requests be turned over to the officer on duty or the PIO. Edit: And even then its not a violation of his employers policy cause he was not even in his employers jurisdiciton. He was a civilian in another agencies area rendering basic first aid, thats it.
  21. I still don't understand why people make this HIPAA so damn complex. HIPAA applies to businesses, agencies, clinics, whatever that BILL for their services. He is a Tampa firefighter that was off duty in Lakeland which is quite aways from Tampa so there was not even an inkling of affiliation being represented by his agency. The responding agency(Lakeland) did not put anythiing in the press. This is not a HIPAA issue. It comes down to medical ethics, courtesy and common sense. As for what he told the press, none of his "direct quotes" gave away any revealing information which HIPAA was created to protect. In addition, this story was written with the patients approval as it told the story of the two of them meeting in the hospital and planning a future beer. It isnt as if this all occurred in the paper the very next day with quotes from the medic on scene.
  22. Subject: Home Depot Scam (a must read) A "heads up" for you and any of your friends who may be regular Home Depot customers. Over the last month I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping. Here's how the scam works: Two seriously hot, good-looking 21or 25 year-old girls come over to your car as you are packing your shopping items into the trunk. They both start wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts. It is impossible not to look. When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say "No" and instead ask you for a ride to another Home Depot. You agree and they get in the back seat. On the way, one of them climbs over into the front seat and performs oral sex on you, while the other one steals your wallet. I had my wallet stolen September 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, 17th, 20th, three times just yesterday, and very likely again this upcoming weekend as soon as I can buy some more wallets.
  23. Ok guys, its time to educate me. If I am wrong please let me know and why. On another website, there is a discussion about D50 and aspirating back while administering it. I will admit, I have never aspirated back while giving D50. I was never taught this and I have never witnessed anyone do it. Doesnt mean we are right, I am just stating my experience. I am under the impression that if I establish a patent IV and watch closely while administering, there is no need to aspirate back. However I have been informed that it is normal to aspirate 3 times! Before, during and after. This seems a bit overkill to me and I would like to hear some other opinions with regard to this practice. As I said I have never been taught it, nor have I taught it to my students. If this is a critical error I need to correct please tell me so and justify it.
  24. Hmmmm, proof eh? Its no tlike me to post without having my facts in order so here ya go. This individual bragged about it to another without knowing I was privvy to the conversation. Is that good enough?
  25. I would but I am in uniform right now...
