  1. Show me where I implied otherwise. Everyone I meet has all my respect and has credibility until they remove it. Some take a few minutes, some take longer. If I didn't feel that way, I wouldn't have said it. tniuqs: I have started the "what happened in Jasper stays in Jasper rule"....there are too many that know too many details already my friend. You are hereby retroactively covered and the rule applies to you...but to answer your question, I think Elk could be put in the recipe somewhere...maybe we could go hunting in the Spring.
  2. I can not believe you called me out like that dude! What happened to the slogan of what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas??? You broke the rule!! LOL Anyways, yes its true, depsite his continuous offerings and even buying me a few, I just dont like dark beers. I drank it but with much disdain. Then I popped open my Coronas...yumyum. Everything else from that weeked needs to stay quiet bro.
  3. Actually Dust, I changed the title after his pointless rant so that others may be aware that the topic at hand had changed slightly.
  4. My question would not be so much about the schedule, but what is your work week? ARe you a 40 hour work week or 52, 56 hour week..what is it? Regardless, there are probably some pay issues involved with whatever answer you give me on that. Do they get zero days every few weeks or are they geting the full OT they deserve?
  5. This practice is outdated and ridiculous. It is perfectly legal however as long as certian conditions are met. I will post all the relevant links for you to read yourself as I researched this topic heavily about a year ago for a different site. One of the reasons I love unions is to get rid of old crud like this. Anyways, it depends on how much you want to fight it and what the ramifications may be as a result of you fighting it. If you can show with documentation that you are consistently being paid for the full shift, then there is no reason for them not to do so. It is not saving money in the long run. In addition, for them to do this, they have to provide adequate sleeping quarters, so if you are crashing on a couch, it is not legal for them to do this. http://www.dol.gov/esa/regs/compliance/whd/whdfs22.htm This link is most relevant to your situation. Sleeping Time and Certain Other Activities: An employee who is required to be on duty for less than 24 hours is working even though he/she is permitted to sleep or engage in other personal activities when not busy. An employee required to be on duty for 24 hours or more may agree with the employer to exclude from hours worked bona fide regularly scheduled sleeping periods of not more than 8 hours, provided adequate sleeping facilities are furnished by the employer and the employee can usually enjoy an uninterrupted night's sleep. No reduction is permitted unless at least 5 hours of sleep is taken. http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/workhours/nightwork.htm http://www.dol.gov/esa/regs/compliance/whd..._responders.htm
  6. Wow! What did I do to earn such hostility? Thanks for cautioning me about looking like something I am not. I was making a joke and actually implied I was looking forward to meeting up with you if that were possible. As for my beard, I am growing it because it is farking cold and it is one of the few times in my career where I was allowed facial hair, so why not? I am quite culturally concientious, as I have lived in and among several different cultures. Immersion is a great way to learn and be accepted. As for me being so high speed, where did I ever imply that? Where did I make that claim? What war stories have I told? I assure you there are plenty as anyone who is here any length of time has some, but have you heard me go on and on about them? I don't think so. As for the military, I was raised in the military and I married a military woman. I know the life as I also served in JROTC and ROTC, but guess what, when I tried to enlist this was during the time the military was downsizing. I could not get in doing what I wanted so I started college and went to work EMS as a career. Do I regret it? Yes there are times I wish I was serving as I have the utmost respect for the guys here that I work beside, eat and hang out with. They are amazing. Want to know another secret? I have cried, yes I said it, I have had tears in my eyes over here when I have seen some of these casualties come in. I think about how unfair it is and I see how young they are, I see wedding bands on their hands and wonder about families back home, did they have kids, what do their parents think? Is it tough over here, you bet your ass. As for the danger, my risk is the same as the enlisted guys. We are all in the same compound, sleeping in tent villages, eating the same food (and that is a risk in itself). I fly in helos from site to site, I convoy between bases with the military, and I have been exposed to quite a few rocket attacks and had plenty of car bombs at the gate. (You wanted war stories, here they are) and if you search you will see this is the first I have spoken of them because I don't whine or complain, I chose to come here unlike others so I get what I deserve. As for me enlisting and "applying my wisdon", guess what? Since I have been here, I have already assisted with two different EMT classes. I did this for free, I volunteered my time. Guess who was in those classes? Military guys, yes so I guess I have applied my wisdom to the enlisted guys already. The last class took their NR 2 weeks ago and we should have the results any day now. Whoope doo you say, you volunteered your time. Well I did this on top of working my job, we work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week minimum. Usually it turns into 14-16 hour days, yet I still dragged myself down tot he classroom and gave what I could. It is the least I could do. As for me doing this only for personal gain, I ask you this...Why do we work? We work for personal gain. This is a job and I get paid for my services. Do you expect payment for your job? Of course you do. Do they happen to pay us well over here? Of course they do but we earn that pay. We are not life long soldiers yet we come over here and put our lives in our brothers hands and do a job that is in DIRECT SUPPORT of the US military. If we were not needed, we would not be here. If the military were able to handle all the services we provide, we would not be here. We are all in this together so what the hell is wrong with you? Why are you so high and mighty? Everyone here is important, even the workers that hardly speak English, yet they scrub all the toilets and showers every day so that people like ourselves can have a decent place to do our business. You know nothing about my life, what I have done or why I have done certain things. You have no way of knowing my motives for what I do. Why are you so attacking and critical of what I am doing here? I have multiple dependents back home that I am trying to provide a better life for, to accomplish these things, I am willing to risk my life to get it done. I miss my family and friends just as much as an enlisted guy. I miss out on all the regular activities everyone else takes for granted back home. Aside from the paycheck and having to actively engage hostile enemies, show me where my life now is any different than the enlisted guys. There is nothing wrong with seizing an opportunity when one presents itself. As for you biography of the time you served over here, I could care less at this point. You have lost all respect and credibility I had for you. You have done nothing more than what several of my friends have done. You are not special, there are many that have walked the same path as you only they are not so eat up over it. They check their egos and act like regular guys. Do you want a ribbon or something? Is that going to make you feel better? I highly recommend some counseling or something of that nature for yourself. Some guys just do not need to be over here or do not need to return and the way you speak, you sound as if you need a very long break. But as short as the military is on personel they will certainly utilize you in some form or fashion. Deltas and Epsilons are needed as much as Alphas and Betas (Brave New World reference for those that care). So, in conclusion I thank you for your input as uneccessary as it was and no I will not lock the thread or have admin PM you. I do not get off on all "the power things" that I do here on this site. Everything I do here ,is yet again, just a job, it has to be done by someone and that someone is me. Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you had a great one back home with your friends and family.
  7. Hey Gang---I need your help I have googled my fingers off but not everything is always avaliable on the net, especially local classes, etc. I need a 48 hour medic refresher for the month of January or February 2007. It can not be a weekend course, it needs to be straight through. I will travel just about anywhere. I have already found a few but I am trying to get as many options as possible. This is the only time I can do it as that is when my RnR will be. Can you guys help me out and let me know what is going on in your neck of the woods. Thanks...AK
  8. I will look for you, I am near Kabul now. I got the Hadji look going on too. My head is shaved and my beard is thick and furry..lol
  9. HOW TO MAKE LOVE Ingredients: 4 Laughing eyes 4 Well-shaped legs 4 Loving arms 2 Firm milk containers 2 Nuts 1 Fur-lined mixing bowl 1 Firm banana Directions: 1. Look into laughing eyes. 2. Spread well-shaped legs with loving arms. 3. Squeeze and massage milk containers very gently. 4. Gently add firm banana to mixing bowl, working in and out until well creamed. For best results. Continue to knead milk containers. 5. As heat rises, plunge banana deep into mixing bowl and cover with nuts, leave to soak (preferably NOT overnight). 6. The cake is done when banana is soft. If banana does not soften, repeat steps 3-5 or change mixing bowls. Notes: 1. If you are in an unfamiliar kitchen, wash utensils carefully before and after use. 2. Do not lick mixing bowl after use. 3. If cake rises, leave town
  10. What point did I miss? This is exactly what I said. Take responsibility and ASK the doctor.
  11. Ok, the others have said what I would have said but now I am going to flip it around a little bit. Why is this all you physicians responsibility? When are we going to accept responsibility for ourselves? It is OUR own health we are talking about here. Do you just blindly accept everything the doctor tells you when you visit? Do you not ask questions? Why at these visits did you not inquire as to what your vitals were and whether or not that is normal? This is the kind of attitude that has stricken all of America. It is always someone elses fault or someone else must be blamed...and with that blame comes lawsuits, and so on and so on.
  12. There is nothing to protect Joe Champion other than professionalism, tact, and sound ethical thinking.
  13. What do you expect the pay to be?? Any system that considers transferring from EMS to Fire a promotion, has some serious flaws.
  14. Lone said "As EMS providers in the United States, we are bound by HIPAA regulations to protect the patients right to confidentiality. The healthcare proviers at the hospital level and post hospital levels are also bound by those same regulations. " Hey Lone, guess you missed my thread on this, it kind of was blended in with another thread. I will find it and post the link. You are incorrect in that statement. We are not bound by any HIPAA regulations unless we bill for our services and use certain forms of electronic communications. The other thread has all the links so you can go directly to the HIPAA site and read it for yourself. So to answer you question, legally they can talk all they want. Ethically and morally, no.
  15. and....he should lose his farking job cause it aint funny...not now not ever!
  16. I don't know how I missed this story last year but here is a follow up going through the legal system now. I posted 3 or 4 cases like this that happened last year and evidently I missed this one. Does anyone have the original story or information because I am making a on of assumptions just based on what is printed in this link. (New London-AP, Nov. 20, 2006 6:46 AM) _ A lawyer for the Stonington Volunteer Ambulance Corps is asking a judge to dismiss a lawsuit by a man who was mistakenly declared dead after he was struck by lightning. Kevin Crandall, a North Stonington man who was struck by lightning and mistakenly declared dead by emergency medical technicians is suing, claiming that lack of treatment at the scene left him with brain damage. On May 31, 2005, Crandall, a mason and blues musicians, was struck by lightning while building a stone wall. Emergency medical technicians from the Stonington Volunteer Ambulance Corps determined Crandall was dead and covered him with a blanket and did not try to resuscitate him. However, minutes later, police Sergeant Keith Beebe leaned over Crandall and noticed he was still alive. Crandall was then rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The lawyer for the ambulance corps says it should not be liable for failing to notice that Crandall was still alive.
  17. Enough has been said...this one is locked for the archives.
  18. Phil, Why do you have such a hard on for Timmy? First of all, he cut and pasted an article that provided a lot of information many of us here in the US were unaware of. I learned a lot from the article. I already encouraged him to be sure to cite sources next time, he fixed that with no complaints. The article provided plenty of iinformation that was both relevant and informative. It is up to us, the readers to learn more and delve deeper if we so choose and if the subject so interests us. Timmy was not submitting a term paper so there was no need to provide any more info than what he did. He found something of interest and shared it with us. If you are so inclined, go read more about it yourself(you meaning those unfamiliar with it). Timmy did what I myself have done many times as well as several other respected members here. We see an article of interest, we cut and paste to share the knowledge just in case you do not travel the same sites as we do. I have pasted many a topic here with no input of my own, simply the article and thats it. That is how you get a discussion going sometimes, it does not always require input froom the person sharing. Then you bust his chops for telling her job well done. What is wrong with that? I would have done the same. The information there and the way it is written and presented shows she put time and effort into it. Again she was writing a brief overview to explain the drug for those of us unfamiliar with it. For a more detailed educational experience, again I say it is up to US the reader to take that intiative and go seek the info ourselves by consulting those more familiar and experienced with the drug..someone such as ...yourself Aussiephil. Geez, give the kid a break, he did nothing wrong here and I certainly do not wish to discourage him from posting in the future.
  19. Timmy, My only request is when you post something like that, please credit the source otherwise it appears as if it is your own. While Phil disagrees with you posting a "volume of crap", I appreciated it as I was very unfamiliar with the drug and delivery route and it was good for me to read all about it. I now have learned something from you Timmy, even if it was only cut and paste of an article that I have not run across before, you did the hard work for me. Thanks. Just always be prepared to defend or justify any statements you make as someone in life will always call you out on them eventually.
  20. Its HIPAA...NOT HIPPA lol sorry pet peeve Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act H I P A A
  21. Here is the direct link and it has simple questions that you answer yes or no to and it takes you through a flow chart to determine if you are a covered entity or not. http://www.cms.hhs.gov/apps/hipaa2decision...ort/default.asp
  22. Sorry my brother, I have spent hours and hoours on this subject. Go to the official website and look up "covered entities". Basic premise is if you DO NOT BILL FOR SERVICES RENDERED, HIPAA does not apply as the law was specifically created for insurance purpposes...one does not bill, one does not deal with insurance.
  23. We dont grow em that big where I am from, strict diets and all.
  24. Get rid of her and find a girl in the business.... Chicks in EMS or fire uniforms turn me on...whoo hoooo!!! Edit: After rereading this I psychoanalyzed myself and came to the realization that I like women in power and authoritative positions as I secretly like to be dominated and punished for being the bad boy I am.
