  8. Same as above...I have worked for three different flight programs and we did not have any special patches. Pins and pens we always had plenty of, but no patches.

  10. I dont know...we can try
  11. Sorry, its people with your mentality that irk me. Teachers are the most undervalued unappreciated worker in the US system. Where would any of us be without first having a teacher? So in the two months off, they should get a job and get CEUs. Brilliant plan. What job can you get in a matter of weeks and keep for only a month or two is going to pay anything to make it worth the hassle? None of them! Just pay them more, they deserve it. As for such a long vacation, my kids got out of school the last week of May and they return July 31st. The teachers had to stay a whole week after school ended to finish up everything, then they have to return at least a week before school starts to get it ready. Real nice long uninterrupted vacation there. As for who has plenty of time off, surprisingly it is us, EMS or Fire workers. The average schedule is 24/48. That is 10 days a month of work. That is 120 days a year! That means we have 245 days a year off which is equal to about 8 months. Wow, we got it easy. As for someone earlier who mentioned combining districts, it is a great idea and can be easily done. It just takes communication between the governing bodies. I currently work for Lake-Sumter EMS. Lake and Sumter county were/are very rural. They got together 5 years ago and did away with their individual county EMS systems. The County Commissioners merged the 2 systems and now we have Lake-Sumter EMS. The 2 counties formed a company that is responsible to the the county board. It is/was a great idea and is working beautifully.
  12. Teachers are required to have a degree whether they are rural or urban. Teachers are required to have so many CEUs every year or on a 2 year rotation or they can lose thier certification or ability to teach within certain districts. Rural or urban, they seem to be able to maintain this despite their location and LOW PAY. We as parents, community leaders, or community members would expect nothing less, so why do we tolerate it in EMS? Its simple, you implement higher education now and phase it in. The majority of people are grandfathered into the system. There will be no huge drain on resources available as EMS will now be viewed as a degreed career instead of somthing to pass the time. The state of Oregon has been doing this since 1998 and it has caused very few if any problems at all. Instead, more rounded, more educated students are on the streets providing higher levels of care.
  13. Pay attention Marty...I said MICPs in Alaska are licensed......I want a green check mark next to MICP please....
  14. Alaska has two more you forgot. ETT--Emergency Trauma Technician ( 40 hr course) EMT 1--This is basic EMT EMT 2--This is IVs, intubation and a few meds (D50, EPI, Atropine in code) EMT 3--This is a psuedo medic---almost everything except RSI, Crics, and a few other drugs MICP--this is the paramedic level (mobile intensive care paramedic) As a side note, medics are not that common in Alaska, they tend to use the psuedo EMT 3s to get away as ALS providers. Also, ETT-EMT 3 is regulated and certified by the EMS board where as MICPs are licensed under the state medical board with PAs and physicians.
  15. Who didn't see this coming??? Come on, raise your hand now.... Thread is locked.
  16. So what do they do when they are a BLS truck? Who are they assisting????LOL I dunno if I want one. I prefer a EMT PARTNER, not an assistant, but...if they insist I have one..
  17. Found this interesting. I will call tomorrow to find out more, but what the heck is a medic's assistant??? Are these glorified First Responders to help with the shortage?? If any of you LA guys have answers, give us a clue. http://www.klfy.com/Global/story.asp?S=4962278
  18. I try to strip my clothes off on every call. It is essential to patient care.
  19. I just found my signature line...LOL Me thinks it is a joke because someone who knows absolutely nothing about EMS just used the word protocol. He wants more protocol...hmmmm Not a common reference used by civilians, and certainly not by one that is a rural farmer and butchers animals.
  20. And it keeps getting better and better..... What do I get paid for..hmmmm, do I even answer? Nope I dont. The ridiculousness of this post is insane.
  21. OK, this thread has to be a joke. Which one of you created a new name and is playing around? Dust are you having fun?? Havent seen you tonight....
  22. So because it was a college town, that makes it ok??? And you ONLY blew .1.....still a DUI, right??? Lifeguard does not compare to EMS and neither does butchering animals. I believe you have a huge mis understanding of what EMS is and what we do. As for jobs, you are pretty much screwed. Who wants to hire a 2 time DUI offender. No risk management will allow you in their trucks, risking you and your partners life, the pts life and all the people on the road. No one wants to hire someone who hasn't learned from their mistakes either. By attempting to lessen the severity of your offenses with the above comments, it shows you have neither the maturity nor responsibility for this profession. Also, this is a highly stressful job and since you already have a problem knowing when you have had too much and are incapable of making responsible decisions, most would be hesitant to help send you down the path of alocholism. You are a liability. Most departments will not hire you if you have had a DUI in the past 7-10 years. I think you got a little wait ahead of you. Maybe you will grow up in that time. I for one do not want someone taking care of people when they can not even take care of themselves and act so irresponsibile.
  23. OK, I will finally weigh in with the last word on this topic as it is no longer worth reading. Tzetah, your post was confusing from the get go. You followed no order, you presented no logical scenario, you used improper terminology and confused everyone, and you implied that you did/thought of several of the actions or interventions. No one would bash if you present a clear concise scenario from which we all could learn. However, your post was anything but...which is throwing red flags up everywhere. Your post gives us the sense that you have no clue as to what you are doing or saying, this is only the impression I percieve, as I know absolutely nothing about you. You may be the most smartest, gifted EMT out there, but what we perceived from your posts was the direct opposite. Perception is Reality! Members here made honest efforts to clarify your post and try to salvage it, but you responded with more confusing riff raff. When asked direct questions, you avoided them. Now after being called out, you have resorted to petty antics. We welcome you here and look forward to future posts. Hopefully we will learn from you and vice versa. Post Locked!
