  1. Here's the cycle. People with Medicaid/Welfare call for BS. Ambulance transports for BS. Medicaid/Welfare pays for BS. The EMS commisioner can sound all touchy feely he wants and act as altruistic as Mother Theresa, if his services stopped getting the $$$ from the state to play taxi for BS, he'd be singing a different tune very quickly. Its a scam, people, it is. The reason we haul a-holes with minor emergencies from the ghetto and the trailer park is because we gets paid when we do.
  2. I was wondering about the FP-C. Somehow I was stuck between PA-C and CPA. Asysin2leads, AEMT-IV, REMAC, AAS, NFPA
  3. I'm all for overthrowing the EMS regime in NJ, too, but I'm more of a sit back, let other people do it for me, then come rushing in when the demand for paramedics goes through the roof. Then it will be Fireguard, Mediccjh, and myself running a nice little unit at Point Pleasant beach on Memorial Day weekend. Oh yeah.
  4. Oh crap, I just reread it and I see you gave 5mg IM, not IV. Okay, lets try this again, with feeling. 5mg is the max dose we can give IV. We give 10mg IM routinely, so the doc was just a prick. I've yet to have a patient who's seizure we've controlled with a benzodiazipine and need to be intubated. You could always go the dick route and next time bring them in actively seizing and say "All yours, sign here."
  5. Not sure what your protocols are, but our max dose of Versed is 5mg given in 1-2mg intervals, so I can see an MD raising his eyebrows at a 5mg Versed bolus, but if its what he needed, its what he needed. Sometimes all you can do is nod your head and say "I'm sorry you think so, sign here."
  6. You'll find conservative senators don't really care all that much about what happens to people in other countries. If they don't care about people getting raped and murdered by the hundreds of thousands in Africa, one gang rape victim getting beaten senseless isn't gonna matter all that much. Besides, these guys are our allies in the war on terror. You're not trying to help the terrorists, are you?
  7. I think Tom Delay, Mark Foley, and Larry Craig , and Cheney's aim might have something to do with it too. It was "stay the course" that brought about November 2006, anyway, not "compromise".
  8. Because if you start hanging around with firemen all the time, people will start to talk. You're already from LA, and immediately suspect.
  9. Yep.
  10. Personally, I think attributing what a person will do based on their race and not on the individual is pretty darned racist in itself. Not all white folk think alike, ya know, some might save the white kid and some might save the black kid.
  11. They don't. That's why paramedics get divorced and firemen turn gay.
  12. Goddamit, okay, just go here! http://www.coatesvillefd.org/Sounds/station%2051%20tones.wav
  13. Anthony, you will now be forced to listen to the following for as many times until its is firmly ingrained into your head: [stream:f19b91224b]http://www.coatesvillefd.org/Sounds/station%2051%20tones.wav[/stream:f19b91224b]
  14. Hey, were EMS, we don't care what's causing it, we just want it to stop.
  15. Hell, even if you are part EMS, doesn't mean you really are everyday. Yesterday I worked 16 hours and had a particularly unproductive day. Call after call, woman who needs to go to ER under advice of doctor because her tremors have gotten worse, hx of parkinsons, woman who needs to go back to nursing home by way of the ER because no one can give her insulin shots, this is what my day was like. At least a sympathetic nurse told me somedays at the ER she doesn't exactly feel like a nurse either. At least I cheered up the woman who was headed back to the nursing home, but I don't think making an 83 year old smile is an Emergency Medical Service.
  16. Dust, -25 points and 1 credit for a serious talking for using the logical fallacy of correlation and causation. You know better than that. I think we'll have to re-think your slumber party this weekend too, young man. You don't see me claiming that we only developed nuclear weapons AFTER women got the right to vote, do you?
  17. How about "My babies momma busted me with a smoovie for getting some stank on my hang low?" (Translation: My significant other struck me with a clothing iron for being adulterous)
  18. Okely dokely. First off, the notion of Fire responding to every single EMS call is BS, and a scam. Now that we have such things as fireproof buildings, automatic sprinkler systems, smoke detectors, and lack of things such as wood stoves and oil lamps, the number of structural fires is very, very small. To keep call numbers up, they respond on EMS jobs. The only EMS job a non-EMS fire company needs to go on is either an entrapment, a technical rescue, or a full blown cardiac arrest with a difficult location. Thats it. Period. End of story. As for EMS responding to fire assignments, first of all, to the whiners who say "why do we have to respond to ..." Listen, if you are blessed with an municipal area who is willing to throw some money at you so you can have your ambulance and do some good, just shut the F up and go where they send you. Don't think we need to go to the dumpster fire? Probably not. But we'll still go, then we can say "hey, do you need us?" and then they can say "no, were good, its a dumpster fire," then we can go get coffee or listen to the radio. There are worse jobs in the world, and if you plan on only responding to legitimate medical emergencies, you are going to be sorely disappointed. Be glad you have quarters to go back to in the first place.
  19. ADA Claire Kincaid, 1993-1996 ADA Jamie Ross, 1996-2001 ADA Abbie Carmichael, 1998-2001 ADA Serena Southerlyn, 2001-2005 All of them were hired for their outstanding academic and professional credentials, I'm sure. BTW, this thread has gone way off track, and it ain't ever coming back.
  20. Bunny, show me yourself sometime climbing a 50 ft aerial with full gear on and a powersaw, then holding it still while you cut ventilation, or dragging a 175lbs person downstairs to fresh air, or taking down an exterior door using only an axe and/or halligan, and I will apologize. Sure, you can have a lot of strength and endurance and not be hugely muscular. Those feats of leaping and pirouetting ballerinas pull off require some extensive musculature. Bruce Lee only weighed 160 lbs, but could send a 235 lbs. man flying with one punch from an inch away, but Bunny, I have a feeling you're not built like Bruce Lee, and if you were, I don't think your boyfriend would find you all that cute. Yesterday my partner and I carried down a 220 lbs. man from the top level of a theatre mezzanine, and my quads are still killing me. But I guess in other parts the laws of physics work differently and 100 lbs. of feminine beauty are knocking down doors and dragging out the vics.
  21. It varies from place to place. I know I am tested annually to make sure my vision is still kosher in all aspects.
  22. Dwayne, I think you're confusing sexual assault with sexual harrassment. By all the definitions of sexual assault, and you're right, they are varied, not necessarily rape, but an off color joke doesn't fit the bill. But all the definitions of sexual assault, up to and including rape, don't buy you a ticket back to probie school,
  23. Blatant rip off of Bringing Out the Dead. I'm gonna slap Joe Connelly next time I see him, lol. (Kidding, he's actually a nice guy.)
  24. Okay, here we go again. Lets crack our knuckles here. First off Kat, we live in the 21st century, not 1952. Now while this means we have to put up with rap music and cellphones, it also means that there are federal laws in place to deal with this type of incidents. The reason he is still riding the great big fire engine and playing hero, and not behind bars is because of the fact that you are allowing it to happen, not because he is a merit firefighter, and not because his dad is the head of the union. I mean assume you filed a police report? Went to a DA? The whole shebang? I'm getting the sense that none of this happened, and you're of the old school "handling things our way" mentality. If thats the case, no shoulders to cry on are going to help. Either stop being a victim or continue to be victimized. Thats all there is too it. As for psychiatry, a psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in mental illness and mental issues. A psychologist is a trained counselor. Psychiatrists are not just there to "push meds", they use all aspects of psychology, physiology, and pharmacology to treat an illness, while a psychologist only uses some of those.
  25. SAR is not EMS. If people want to do training and respond on the off chance a plane crashes or a mountaineer goes missing, go for it. You want to put a splint on him while you're up there? Knock yourself out. If people want to train to augment professional medical services in the event of a disaster, great, that's different then day to day EMS. EMS, is the provision of timely, professional medical services to a community, which may include augmenting or being part of a Search and Rescue team, but generally is doing some 12 leads, picking up some old folks, and doing cardiac arrests here and there. SAR is not EMS. DMAT is not EMS. Hell, lifeguarding ain't even EMS. They may have aspects which overlap with EMS, but EMS has aspects that overlap with Police and Fire, but were not the same thing.
