So this thread really didnt start off the way I wanted it to but alas we are kind of off to the races. So by posting the non-joke it has been assumed the conversation should only involve race and religion. In reality we as a society tolerate many things on a daily basis. So I have 2 thoughts to make it go forward. Hosemonkey's hummmm there's a nice term. They have been known in the city that they are knuckle dragging gorilla's that only has the purpose of carring my equiment at best. So what is it that has made this particular profession intorerant in the EMS world. So it's known I luv hosemonkey's. And to the hosemonkey's here please feel free to say why EMS is intolerable in your bubble. Also as a 40ish white female it would be nice if people here of other ethnic or religious groups comment on how they are tolerant of our culture. If this thread is to have some sort of vality then it needs 2 sides.

Im going to take a crack at this and you know me it could be a bit long. Its not that I think their should be less defence not at all. I think that the punishment should suit the crime and in Canada it is really lop sided. When someone kills one intentionally and with malace they should go to jail for life and no parol. I am also a beliver of the death penalty(that will bring alot of flack)in which I think Clifford Olsen should have been subject to(so many problems on so many levels in his case). There are some crimes that are truely caused by mental illness for example http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/story/2009/03/05/mb-li-verdict.html. But the unfortunant issue in this case is that he can be let out of the mental institution as soon as a dr. deems him cured. He has already tried to be release but because of public out rage it didnt happen. I think they should still do a set sentance even if it is in an institution. When he was in jail going to trial I happen to be in Victoria and had to deal with the RCMP on the case I asked if I could go watch and was asked if I was abused. Since I was lucky, so lucky and was not abused by him, I was asked not to because if he recognized me he could call me in as a defense witness. So I didnt go. In the artical it states a calander of 1000 documented offences. He did these in the NWT while working as a teacher. Now as I said I called him Uncle Hal so Im going to use this to answer your question. As a child I held this man very dear. As families we did so much together, camping, dinners, ect. I would sit with him at his HAM radio and enjoy his company and loved to talk to so many people from other countries. He was never harmful to me or ever said anything inapproriate. As life went on my parents divorced and he also divorced his wife. When I was newly married and living in Inuvik NWT he had gotten in contact with me and we had a few meetings. At that time being older I had a feeling about him that was different than when I was young but it wasn't anything that would prepare me for what was about to happen. I then moved to where I am now. My ex-husbands mother started to send us clippings about him being arrested (he was my husbands principle and some other cub scout type of thing leader). When I first read them I was abit in disbelief as anyone would be. And deep down I hope that these things were untrue. But alas they were true and when they gave him 13 years for what he did I was discusted. This man should never have been set free EVER. Not long ago I was watching a news artical about an attempted kidnapping and the picture looked exactly like him. I went to my local RCMP and let them know that I though the pic looked like him and they should look into it. They did but I have no idea what has happened after that. He is also suspect in missing children from Colwood but they never could pin it on him. So what if he was innocent......I truely dont know how I would react to be honest, I would hope that our justice system would learn from the mistake and change the law that convicted him. So this is a case from the 1980's. Lets go to this day and age. The police agencies have the ability of forensics. They have a better understanding of the criminal mind and in gerneral have a better understanding of crimes. The innocent going to jail for these types of crimes are less and less because of forensics, what is happening is the old cases before forensics are being vindicated. I utterly hate my justice system where I am. The Judge that comes here is a bleeding heart that accepts the racist card. Oh my son/daughter is being harassed because they are native. Our chief councelor will go and harrass the RCMP for doing their job. It is a vicious cycle and is a system that is more for the crimminal than it is for the victim. So to the end. When I go to the court house and they sentence someone I accept the sentance as it is and I dont go on TV and start a head hunt on someone who is found innoccent. I don't think this is exactly what you wanted in an answer Dwyane but it is the only instance that I have close to speak of. If you want the Justice system to change then you have to lobby, but what ends up happening is that until something devistating happens to you, you dont advicate. Like my sister in law had nothing to do with Mothers against drunk drivers until her daugher was in an accident involving a drunk driver.

At our local fish and chip I was having dinner with my husband. Some tourist started having convulsions so I jumped in and really just made sure he was safe. Called the crew to come get him and by the time I was done the bill was gone. Thats the one and only time.

So you know Fire I have alot of tack and for someone who has just joined to come and say to me for one who has been a part of this forum for many years and two has recieved awards for my patient care and say that I shouldn't be in the medical field. So you know I live on a small island, I am married to a Indian and my youngest son has a card that says he is an indian. I also work for an indian organization. So you are aware most races will take a joke with salt and laugh at it. I have said many jokes about indians, Ive heard indians make jokes about indians and I have been the brunt of white jokes from indians (and yes I laughed my head off). My old boss who I loved dearly (but he now departed) use to call me SWAB (scrawny white assed bits). I never once took offence to it because to him it was a term of endearment and he defended me all the time when I first started to work here. So your question was would I say this joke in a room full of Arabs. Nope probably not unless I thought they would think it was funny but again you are missing the point of the topic. So before you get those saddle sores squint was talking about you had better get off that horse take a good look at what I posted.

I have mentioned this call before. My saddest call was a young man who committed suicide. He was 19 and deep into the drugs, got fired from his job and was threatedned with life from dealers. One night he tried to call many people in our community, they didnt answer their phones. He then went to his room and sorted all of his belongings and put peoples names on the piles. After he was done got a rope and hung himself on the back deck. By the time we were called the RCMP had him cut down and were doing their thing. For what ever reason I just broke down and cried (never happened before or since) but I think what it was, was that when I entered the house I heard the mom crying "he called me and I didn't answer". I have a strong conviction about suicides but he was the one and only exception, and I did go to his funeral. I still have a hard time when I think of him because he was messed up but he was a very polite young man and many people liked him including myself.

So again I think this world is completely bonkers. The media should have some sort of policy of doing public trials like this. Last night on one of those Nancy Gray type things on CNN there is a missing grade 5 girl from somewhere in the states. So a reporter goes to the step father and asks "If you could say something to your step-daughter what would it be" his reply "Get your butt home". Ok not what you would think any one would say and alittle harsh but with those words the reporters have invaded his face-book, any other thing that may have his name on it and are now saying "He should be a person of interest and that the cops should be investigating him" Well first of all they are investigating him because he was in the house when it happened. Just like the Jonbente Ramsey case this family is going to go through the ringer. Once the accusations are out there who ever it is towards never lives them down and there are many people that have had to live through this public trial system. Personaly I turned it off as I dont want to be a part of a public trial. Now with Casey I dont know if she is quilty or not and I will never know, but the public is all up in arms over the out come of their own judical system and are on a head hunt. The crap the media puts out there is borderline slanderous. They even have an expert that has created a picture of her if she has plastic surgery.... Come on people there has to be something eles to report on.

So I guess back to the original reason I posted this, I will tell you what Mike If you TOLERATE my humor good or bad, I will in turn TOLERATE your comments on it

WOW did I say that? It sure looks like your typing words in my mouth. You Mike are such a funny duck, it dosnt matter what the joke is in bad tast or good you pee on the parade. So maybe you should open your eyes and actually read my last sentence, What does it say? I personally realy liked the guys from VIH when they had the contract in BC. Im not real fond of flying EVER but have had the opportunity in flying in both VIH and Helijet. Now imagin this, off you go in a Helijet that is not set up for medical at all (they had just started flying here 2 days before)and you see the pilots tear out seats so you will be able to have a pt on a clam shell fit, then off you go (I saw the islands like Iv never seen before). We get to the fishing lodge and all I see is a small inlet with no where to land, a big lodge and tree's. And then I saw it, we were going to land on a floating square that didnt look big enough. I was very impressed with the pilot as he landed that puppy like a pro and on the way back I was to busy to notice our take off. When I look at that video I have to wonder why the pilot didn't just go straight up and then in the other direction but who knows what was going through their minds. To their defence these pilots had just started flying for BC ambulance and if that accident was bad was probably just thinking I have to get this person to the hospital fast it is a crappy thing to happen just as they get the contract but what do you do............ Helijet had one completely rehauled in Rupert and it is a hell of alot bigger than the Bell. And Dustbunny arnt girls suppose to hold the stick

Oh and the Narcan issue is that it isnt a drug that is going to kill you (i also have cheat sheets) but if I was given all of the drug PROTOCOLS and came back here didnt use them for 10 years do you think that there might be a higher chance of error, I do. Myself There was an elderly man in the last few years of his life. We would be called for general sickness and everytime we got there this man would be in the worst hygenic condition. (remember family does alot (or not)with our elderly) Anyways after a few times having to clean him up (as that stink was not going in the ambulance)it was soon apperent that maybe the family just didnt get it. The next time we were called I asked the daughter to get me a warm basin of water, soap, towel and freash jammies. She did and I proceeded to show her how to do this in a professional and dignified way. From that date on we never had a stinky old guy, he was always in freash jammies, she pulled me aside and thanked me as no one had shown her how to do this properly...not a exciting story but true. Any one else
