Why do they call it 'hump day', when most people don't get 'it' until the weekend?

  2. I did read a few of these replys, here is my take on it. #1 if I encounter a violent pt (but as you know everyone is afraid of me)(and just had one the other day) I will make it a point to make sure that everyone in my station knows they were violent with me and to be careful if you have this person in the back. #2 I had a pt who is 73 years old and is a bit bustier than most. She was having lung (chest pain). When I asked her what she thought may be the issue her reply "I have Titlash". I started to laugh and asked her to explain this to me. With her family in the room she said "My daughter was driving so fast around a corner the other day my tits did a zig when i did a zag and it has hurt ever since" The whole room burst out laughing, As you can tell I do tell this story but no names are mentioned. To the original poster, Remember when you are repeating anything that has been said in confidence to you from a pt use your common sense. If it is a confession of a crimminal offence or you suspect abuse then there should be something in your policy manuel. If you hear something from someone else that is questionable again use your common sense and dont repeat it. Treat others as you want to be treated. So if you dont want people talking about you then dont talk about others. Happy
  3. what i have wouldnt work
  4. I agree in the fact that loosing five is five to many. I talked to someone that grew up in Tofino and this part of the roadway is very steep and dangerous. It was an early morning call where it is very easy to fall asleep, going to fast (apperently when it says go 30km you go 30km), another car comming the other way as it is very narrow, and in one report they said they had to chase a bear away from the scene so maybe they swerved to avoid it. The blame should be addressed to the ministry of transport as this accident waiting to happen has been on their table for many years and was a part of the municiaple meetings in Whistler this year.. This particular accident is beyond the BCAS Union ability to fix. When we lost the BCAS medivac plane 15 years ago we lost our ability to do night medivacs for years until they discovered that it was human error and not he airports fault. This could easily happen in Tofino in the effect of no night transfers but the unfortunant thing is people get sick when they sick not on our time line.
  5. Condolances to the family. http://www.ctvbc.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20101019/bc_ambulance_accident_101019/20101019/?hub=BritishColumbiaHome

  8. getting out the broom its time to test drive it

  9. This is such a touchy topic but my opinion is as follows "If your going on a plane I appreciate everyone getting screened no matter what you look like, what color you are, how funny you talk, or if you are plain normal" As it goes now you never know who has gone nutty, was always nutty, a terrorist, an activist or just plain normal...........

  12. In BC they are trying to transfer the BCAS to the various health authorities (which are broke). It came to my attention that they were also trying to get us to do the same sort of things.... My response to the whole issue is this "If I wanted to be a nurse I would have gone to nursing school" I am lucky as this is not my bread and butter and if I have to I will say stuff it up your ass. I have a letter from my regional supervisor that says "Paramedics can chose to do hospital shifts but it will not be mandatory" I agree with Mobey get ahold of your MLA and what is the Union doing about this.....
  13. leaves Haida Gwaii and the sun comes out, now I'm on my way home and gale warnings are up, ferry ride should be fun

  14. To the original poster. Any education that you feel will make your business a better place for others is a great idea. You dont have to do a paramedic course isnt there some red cross type of first aid course there. As for the AED you can get them at decent prices if you take the time to look and i think if you have one your insurance will be alittle less which will make it worth while in the end. Please remember that most of the people that post on this site like richard are going to steer you in the right direction. Dont listen to those who just want to slam others when they come here for help.

  19. I know of a medic that has such a peanut allergy even being in the space of it on someones breath can knock him out cold, as far as I know he is still working. One of my partners is as bad as you can get with diabetes but she has never been in a coma etc, but with that being said she did have to wait for 1 1/2 years to be able to go on car. There was an issue with her doc and the company doc. If it something you luv carry on but try to get better information on the Companies that may not accept you. good luck
  20. You should send your story to that flight attendent. Hope you day gets better
  21. I have been reading both of these thread and really find everyones comments interesting. As a Canadian(even if it was geared towards americans) do I forgive them for the attacks. Ya I guess you could say I do, but I am an empathic personality and have forgiven many people for many things. Does this impact me personally. Nope To be honest I have no idea what is and what is not allowed in a Mosque so question 3 I cant answer. My understanding in alot of this is the location and the grand opening day being the issues. I truely believe these are just being done in bad taste and that maybe they should re-consider changing them and be considerate to the American people as a whole. In reading alot of the reponses to this Mosque topic it is bringing alot of racisum out in alot of people. Living in a First Nations community and being white I have been on the recieving end of racisum and when my husband was growing he was on the other end of that racisum stick. As my 3 boys were growing up we would come across the topic time to time. This was always my answer to them "If you dont like someone because the are an as shole then dont like them because they are an as shole not because they are an indian" My youngest son who is going to Vancouver to go to school has lately been making statements about how he hopes his roommates are not Asian, so I said to him "I wonder if those Asian's are hoping their roommate isnt an Indian" when I made this comment it was like a lite went off in head and he actually realized how racist he was being. No matter who you are someone in this world is going to hate you
  22. 45 sockeye headed and gutted ready to can in 2.5 hrs not bad for not cleaning fish in 5 yrs.....

  23. The beach, A 9 yr old that makes you laugh, Agates, Quad and sunshine what more can one ask for

  24. As one of the older one's in my station, I have been given the job of helping the new ones get their experience and confidence. First thing I do is say watch how I interact with pts, and remember you treat them the same way you would want to be treated. When it comes time for them to actually be the attendent then I say "remember everything you have been taught and I will step in when you are veering in the wrong direction, I will not let you down" After the call, no matter what it was (cpr to a cut finger) we will sit down and discusse what happened, if they thought it went well and what I think. This last bit is very important as new people need to know that you are there to help them. Personally I can be high strung and bit snappy but I do warn people not to take it personally it's me not them. good luck with the newbie it is stressful but in the end when he is your partner you will know exacually how he is going to be as you have given him your skills.
  25. its such a beautiful day today
