  1. As I have watched these posts I have to admit Dwayne you again make me understand the american mind a little more. You are one in a Million and by that I mean you have taken responsibilty for your actions. Like you said you chose to have a child and if he needs anything you will do anything to make that happen. The unfortuant thing is that again you are one in a million the rest dont think that way. Maybe healthcare reform is not the way to go but come on the cost of your hospital stays is rediculas (didnt spell that right) 22 years ago a friend (who is also responsible and paid the bill) had her child in the states and as we were looking through the bill I couldnt believe she had to pay $5.00 for an extra strength tylonol. So maybe if the costs were forced to go down people would have a better ability to pay their bills. I have always had health care and in reality I know no different but Im sure glad that when I go to have surgery Im not going home with a 100k bill. Everyone is going to have a different opinion about this but I think that most agree that something needs to change in the system but if this isnt the start then what is. ps Dwayne the 1 in a mill is a complement and I dont believe that you should be fined for something you dont want
  2. OK time to stir the pot and eat popcorn to. I dont really know what to say about the bill and in reality I see flaws but I agree that everyone, everywhere deserves at the very least basic and emergency healthcare. As I have sat back and watched this thread I would like to point out the various people that have mentioned how much the USA is in dept. I would like to ask why is the USA in dept and maybe there should be some emphises on the american people making the government get all of the billions paid out to the banks and the ones who got all of the million dollar bonuses and that money could be put towards healthcare. There are always going to be good and bad ideas in any government I just shake my head at my own, but maybe something good could come out of this and maybe it will be striked in the next administration. Unless your willing to read the whole bill as is your not going to know the whole story.
  3. good to know your not dead and welcome back to the city
  4. I’m guessing you would prefer to continue seeing those experienced, relaxed, professional crews (in a timelier manner of course). Just one of many symptoms indicating current flight crews, though effective, are not available when needed. The limitations are in staffing and resource allocation not the quality of personnel. If you have been able to produce quality personnel capable of providing the required service it makes far more sense to me to step up production over moving to an entirely different product. It actually comes down to economics when you think about it. So I live on Haida Gwaii as most here know, and I to say these guys who do the plane thing are the best. Maybe because I live so remotely we are on the top of the list but in 14 years I have seen on one instance of a pt waiting for days for a plane and it was weather related. Last weekend I had a crew come in on 70-80k wind gusts to see a lady that phumo. They ended up staying the night as the pt went from a priority 1 to stable (thanks timmy and little guy lol). Now with that being said the problem is not the fact of our training (and yes squint I know you think I'm undertrained)it is the fact that our islands do not have a hospital that has any surgery capabilities. In most cases our level of training is good but the fact that the pt is so far from surgery that maybe the reason that they die. Now I do have issues with the EMR training and the length of time that BCAS lets a person train with the experienced. 10 calls riding 3rd is not enough. When I did the PCP training I already had many years experience but I got training in a bigger centre and in the hospital and it was the best. It is to bad that they do not require this with EMR as you learn so much in those situations and to learn on the job is the best. cheery ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh to you all happiness
  5. I have had pts under the Mental Health act in BC. I dont know how it works in other provinces
  6. To some thats what it means to me it means Cant Understand Paramedic Ever
  7. Sad thing about this is the fact that alot of medics in remote area's were I live have full time jobs already and may have to choose. Well I would have to choose the one that pays the bills and my community will be at risk. The lucky thing about my day job is that I can leave to do a call and make up the hours, and I do about 106 to 140 hrs per pay period. I also know if they decided to have the health authorities take over the ambulance there will be alot of paramedics handing in their notice, Northern Health for one has a crappy track record for their employees. Good luck BCAS in finding dedicatated paramedics in the future. Oh ya and we are now not a CUPE union, we are free agents for now lol.
  8. Glad i wasnt the medic on this call I would probably be so unprofessional and pee my pants laughing
  9. Grow some thick skin, have a sense of humor, use spell check (i get slammed every time) and make sure that when your posting to the forum it is staying on the topic of choice (again been slammed lol). If you show respect to those that have the knowledge you will be given respect for learning in return. Alway pick your battles as you may think your right (and you maybe) but there are those that will just carry on the fight. I have to admit I have learned alot on the forums and i do try to read them everyday. I dont always agree but I do try to learn.
  10. Even though you are saying there was no aggressive manipulation of the neck Im going to lean toward a Stroke. There has been alot of research lately of pts. haveing strokes after a visit to the crack doctor and it can be from passive or agressive manipulation. http://www.cmaj.ca/cgi/content/full/166/6/794

  13. Im so glad that I work in a small town. I have in 14 yrs only had one bad dispatch call out were they called us for another town. I did catch it because it was an Avenue and we dont have any. My other solution is to ask for a pt name if it is available, but if I really dont know where Im going i call my husband he worked for public works and knows all the names of the streets. I know this dosnt work for many communities but does work for ours.

    Women

WOMAN'S PERFECT BREAKFAST She's sitting at the table with her gourmet coffee. Her son is on the cover of the Wheaties box. Her daughter is on the cover of Business Week. Her boyfriend is on the cover of Playgirl. And her husband is on the back of the milk carton. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WOMEN'S REVENGE ! "Cash, check or charge?" I asked, after folding items the woman wished to purchase. As she fumbled for her wallet , I noticed a remote control for a television set in her purse. "So, do you always carry your TV remote?" I asked. "No," she replied, "but my husband refused to come shopping with me, and I figured this was the most evil thing I could do to him legally." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UNDERSTANDING WOMEN (A MAN'S PERSPECTIVE) I know I'm not going to understand women. I'll never understand how you can take boiling hot wax, pour it onto your upper thigh, rip the hair out by the root, and still be afraid of a spider. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MARRIAGE SEMINAR While attending a Marriage Seminar dealing with communication,Tom and his wife Grace listened to the instructor. "It is essential that husbands and wives know each other's likes and dislikes." He addressed the Tom, "Can you name your wife's favorite flower?" Tom leaned over, touched his wife's arm gently and whispered, "It's Pillsbury, isn't it? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CIGARETTES AND TAMPONS A man walks into a pharmacy and wanders up & down the aisles. The sales girl notices him and asks him if she can help him. He answers that he is looking for a box of tampons for his wife. She directs him down the correct aisle. ! A few minutes later, he deposits a huge bag of cotton balls and a ball of string on the counter. She says, confused, "Sir, I thought you were looking for some tampons for your wife? He answers, "You see, it's like this, yesterday, I sent my wife to the store to get me a carton of cigarettes, and she came! back with a tin of tobacco and some rolling papers; cause it's sooo-ooo--oo-ooo much cheaper. So, I figure if I have to roll my own .......... so does she. (I figure this guy is the one on the milk carton!) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WIFE VS. HUSBAND A couple drove down a country road for several miles, not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an argument and neither of them wanted to concede their position. As they passed a barnyard of mules, goats, and pigs, the husband asked sarcastically, "Relatives of yours?" "Yep," the wife replied, "in-laws." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WORDS A husband read an article to his wife about how many words women use a day... 30,000 to a man's 15,000. The wife replied, "The reason has to be because we have to repeat everything to men... ! The husband then turned to his wife and asked, "What?" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CREATION A man said to his wife one day, "I don't know how you can be so stupid and so beautiful all at the same time. "The wife responded, "Allow me to explain. God made me beautiful so you would be attracted to me; God made me stupid so I would be attracted to you ! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WHO DOES WHAT! A man and his wife were having an argument about who should brew the coffee each morning. The wife said, "You should do it because you get up first, and then we don't have to wait as long to get our coffee. The husband said, "You are in charge of cooking around here and you should do it, because that is your job, and I can just wait for my coffee." Wife replies, "No, you should do it, and besides, it is in the Bible that the man should do the coffee." Husband replies, "I can't believe that, show me." So she fetched the Bible, and opened the New Testament and showed him at the top of several pages, that it indeed says .......... "HEBREWS" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Silent Treatment A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment. Suddenly, the man realized that the next day, he would need his wife to wake him at 5:00 AM for an early morning business flight. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper, "Please wake me at 5:00 AM." He left it where he knew she would find it. The next morning, the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, "It is 5:00 AM. Wake up." Men are not equipped for these kinds of contests. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- God may have created man before woman, but there is always a rough draft before the masterpiece . -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SEND THIS TO SMART WOMEN WHO NEED A LAUGH AND TO MEN YOU THINK CAN HANDLE IT!
