BC Ambulance Service hiring process
Happiness replied to rock_shoes's topic in General EMS Discussion
Hey bosc :D/ -
Never said you would be safe lol sorry couldn't resist its my type a personality comming through. anyways everyone who reads this thread enjoy the antics and take what you can as in our profession its all about learning and being the best you can be. Thats the military comming out in me

Doc that was a great explaination. I totally agree with all the training and monthly training to keep up the skills. We can teach anyone anything but it is the keeping up of those skills that is a challange in many small communities and of course the financial side of the employer. Thank you for teaching me something about the intabation education from a Drs point of view.

Again you guys can't pull your head out of your asses and see the light. I am not going to sit here and have the likes of you say that I am not good at what I do you don't even have a clue of what my accomplishments are in my profession. I am very good at what I do and your narrow minded opinions do not hurt my feelings. I do outside learning and yes I have learned alot in this forum and probably from some of you thanks for that. The unfortunant thing is I can learn from a book how to do all these things but I can't use them. Did I say I didn't know what caused those siezures well as it happens I do know the cause of his condition. 6 years ago he was dirtbiking (in full gear) with a buddy (oh I will mention that his buddy is a lowly BCAS also and he saved his life). He went over a dune and hit a tree, the branch in the tree when through his eye socket and through his brain. Now since this was a ceaar branch he went through cedar poisoning. So now he suffers from the seizures. So My coat says that Im a paramedic so I must be one right. Isn't it like i still have cheqs so I must still have money in my account. There is an ER here but I may have missunderstood the question. It is the 35-40 heli ride for the closest surgery room. My apologies. Now for personal attacks I think you all should read what you have said about my intellagence. Like I said before I don't care what you think of me as I do my job to the best of my abilities. So If you would like to know what my skill level is then come and go fishing and do a few calls with and then would truely undstand how it is here and not in the cement jungle. So my last comment is this I never said that it wasn't a good Idea to intibate ever the two statements I made is that Im glad I can only use a airway and bag em and the other comment is that I have never thought after any of my calls "boy i wish i knew how to Intibate. From these comments you all took it and ran. So if ya want to keep slamming me have a blast and enjoy but I will still be here to learn from the ones that have the abilty to teach me with alittle respect and not because they think they are better then me. Again still Happy

And as always You all have decided that I am not worthy of the word Paramedic. I am not god and I do the best I can and you all can't unstand that then well thats to bad. I have never gone over my training and have always followed my protocols and you know sometimes I am able to think out of the box. Rocken the answers to your questions no,yes(i will explain after), and the closest er to me is in prince rupert a 35 to 45 min heli ride away. And where did I ever say I had an educated opinion all I said is that I was glad that all I could use was and airway and bag em. I think some of yas have educated the brains out of your selves and forgotten the basics. Asys and rocken the only real airway issue i have had would be with seizures. This one pt was in grand mal for what would turn out to be days, (a very long case study the guy has only 5 lives left) and by the time I got to him he was blue o2 stats in the low 60,s. I was able to get an airway in only after being patient enough to wait for that one sec he may stop clenching his jaw long enough, he arrived at the hospital pink, o2 in the high 80's and still seizing. Now since im not educated enough to know about intabation im not to sure if your going to be able to do the intabation on this pt in the first place. Tri well what kind of paramedic do you think I am. I am a paramedic that tries to look at the scene as a whole and decide what is the best for my pt and so you all know I also consult with my partner to make sure nothing is missed. As for grief and ass chewing they are not protocols I have listed on my license. But if you must know my license says PCP. And so you all know I worked very hard to get and maintain my license just like all of you have and I am proud of what experience has taught me in 12 years. And to save the best for last squint im sorry you have such a bad attitude towards BC it almost makes me think that you tried out for our service and were turned away at the phyc test. I really don't understand why you can't understand that just because I am in BC I don't deserve to be called a paramedic. So in your opinion what should I be called. But before you answer that maybe you should take some time and think that maybe there are just some people in BC that are good at their job and because they choose to be here what gives you the right to call us down. I have never slammed someone because of where they live or what level they are but I have no problems slamming someone who thinks they are better then others because they have a higher level. Just remember were you started it wasn't at the top. Well that should give you all a bad opinion of me but what do I know because Im not a paragod, I am a paramedic. Still happy
-
Ya Rocken I was serious not that I would disagree with intibation but with my location and the majority of my calls it is not practical. I am pretty much 5 minutes away from the hospital. It would take that much time to do the intibation and I could be at the hospital before I would be finished and the Dr. can do it. In the 12 years I have been here I can honestly say there is not one time after a call I would say I wish I new how to intibate. I know a lot of you will jump all over this but what ever. And I don't take offence of the comment its just the way it is here, please remember I am a part timmer and I don't get enough experience to keep up some skills that you get in the real world. Be safe again

Im just so glad all I can do is an oral airway and bag em. Play Safe :wav:

Okay now Dust you are very right in your opinion. I believe if you are going to be a paramedic paid or not should be at the same standard. Thank-you for the explaination of why you don't agree with volly paramedics in the states and I hope you the best in your fight. Please remember though that there are Vollys that come to this site for I would hope advise and to learn from those who have the knowledge and expertise. As for Dispatch making address errors. I as alot know live on the Queen Charlotte Islands and out dispatch is out of Kamloops. I have been dispatched to Queen Charlotte City from my home town of Masset and it is a 1.5 hr trip. When they gave me the address I corrected them and they dispatched the proper crew. We are all human and we make mistakes but you should be diligant in knowing your area. I bet if you look at it the accual numbers of the same named streets are very different. The reason I could let them know they were dispatching the wrong crew is that our town dosen't have avenues its streeds or roads.

Dust re-read what I said. "I would do it for free" I didn't say I did do it for free. And to answer your question about going to media ect. Yes to some degree that was done by family members and all my original training was paid for by our Village council and all my upgrades have been paid by my employer. My point is that Vollies seem to get slammed at every opportunity and I don't feel that that is fair. If they disrupt your pay scale then maybe you should become a part of the solution and go to your governments and lobby that all paramedics should a certin level of training and be paid for their services and get volunteers out of it. You know there are many threads where you have alot of good information but maybe you should also think about how and what you say because sometimes you come across as an arogant ass (just an observation)
-
Wow Dust you really have an issue with Vollies as do alot of people on this thread. I read that there was an error in the software for 911 so how the hell did it become the fault of vollies. Two off duties happen to be able to go to the scene and help while the ambulance was going off in the wrong direction BECAUSE OF A SOFTWARE ISSUE. Now I have been a paramedic for 12 years and the reason is because our community didn't have any paramedics the day my brother in law died (sure could have used a volly that day). I do this job only for my community and I would do it for free so let me say one thing quit slamming people for volenteering there time for something they think is benifiting thier community maybe slam people for just being bad paramedic either paid or not paid.

okay I won't tell them.

One thing I would like to know is about the fresh track mark. There is no mention whether this pt had an IV when they arrived, or if the Doc at the prison admisitered any pain drugs. I know that some don't like to give the drugs until the problem is diagnosed.

I also like everyon else have had this partner. He is gone now. I never put up with anything with him and if he did something stupid he was told very loudly. (only at the station). The unfortunate thing is that your partner is good at the skills that he has been hired for but it sounds like he has the personality of a nat. Good luck to you and I do agree with that you should have patients and document everything as what goes around comes around. If that doesn't work give me a call I have access to a back-hoe happy

Lets see im allergic to my job and my family. But heres a good story, A friend of mine is medivac to a city centre. As she is landing she looks out the window and can see the ground ambulance on the tar mac and beside the ambulance there is a paramedic laying on the ground. Inside the ambulance is the other paramedic. Once they land the ALS go and see whats up. As it turns out the one on the ground is so allergic to peanuts that even if someone has eaten peanuts he goes into shock. The partner didn't know this and as he was trying to help he was getting worst so he finally figured out because he had eaten a chocolate bar with peanuts he was the problem. this all happened as the plane was landing so he decided that the ALS would be the best bet to help and went inside the ambulance to wait. I all turned out good but im not sure if he is still a paramedic.. So the lesson is if you have a potential deadly allergy you should atleast tell your partner. happy

I would have looked in the cart -
heres one for you. My friend and her sister were at a restaurant for lunch. They noticed that the waiter was very good looking and watched him make his way to the table. He asked if they would like anything to drink. The sister asked for ice tea and of course my friend replyed she would like a cock. He brought her a coke. Heres another i love this one. the local bar had male stippers for ladies night. Myself and a few girls had a few drinks and went to go watch the show. If anyone has been to these you know that if they make the ladies wait it will get noisy. So the first one comes on stage. He wasn't bad but it gave us time to order some more drinks. The last guy who got on stage was so good looking the bar was speachless except my friend who proceeded to yell out "oh my god fuck me". Everyone around her backed away and left her standing in front of this guy beat red. He gave her a kiss.

well richard it sounds like u don't belive in ghosts and have an explanation for it all. thats ok you may just be some one who goes through life without an experience so there for how could you believe. heres another one for u. when my oldest son was 3 my grandmother passed away. that night my husband was working mids so for compfort i brought him into bed with me. he was in a dead sleep and i was reading a book when he sat up and looked at me and said You promised me u would quit smoking. I had made that promise to my grandmother a few months before, then he preceeded to recite the lords prayer. I did not go to church or hang out with people that were religious. I dont even know the whole prayer. then once he was done he good bye i love you and went straight back to sleep. now talk about creeping you out. and as for ruff if you spend one night here you would never leave. i have enough stories to write a book.

yes i do live on a fault and this may be part of the strange behavior i agree, but if the animals are kicked outside they go back to normal. You would have yo see it to believe it. this house use to be the funeral home 50 yrs ago and that is a big part of the happenings

My house is known around town as being haunted (and not by the happiness fairy). I have experienced seeing the ghost, hearing children playing in my back yard, i have had the dam thing sitting on my chest, and not to many people will sleep in the house, but lately hr has been keeping my 15 yr boy busy by making him tune his guitars everyday. He will go pick one up to play and it needs to be tuned even if it was done hours before. The weirdest thing though is that all of my animals change personalities. My dobie will run up stairs and shake by my bed, the oscars in the fish tank go beserk and the cat flips out. These things will happen all at the same time and it freaks everyone out. We have the cold drafts, sometimes it will touch me just as i crawl into bed. But i have to admit that I love the looks on peoples faces when they experience the spook, Its my cheap entertainment.
